  • The accuracy in maneuvering target tracking using multiple models is caused by the suitability of each target motion model to be used. The interacting multiple model (IMM) algorithm and the adaptive IMM algorithm require the predefined sub-models and the predetermined acceleration intervals, respectively, in consideration of the properties of maneuvers to construct multiple models. In this paper, to solve these problems intelligently, a genetic algorithm (GA) based-IMM method using fuzzy logic is proposed. In the proposed method, a sub-model is represented as a set of fuzzy rules to model the time-varying variances of the process noises of a new piecewise constant white acceleration model, and the GA is applied to identify this fuzzy model. The proposed method is compared with the AIMM algorithm in simulations.

  • A new interacting multiple model (IMM) method using genetic algorithm (GA)-based intelligent input estimation(IIE) is proposed to track a maneuvering target. In the proposed method, the acceleration level for each sub-model is determined by IIE-the estimation of the unknown acceleration input by a fuzzy system using the relation between maneuvering filter residual and non-maneuvering one. The GA is utilized to optimize a fuzzy system fur a sub-model within a fixed range of acceleration input. Then, multiple models are composed of these fuzzy systems, which are optimized for different ranges of acceleration input. In computer simulation for an incoming ballistic missile, the tracking performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the input estimation(IE) technique and the adaptive interacting multiple model (AIMM) method.

  • In this article we consider a single maneuvering target Tracking algorithm in the presence of missing measurements and high clutter environments for multi-sensor target tracking problem. The tracking algorithm is based on the Particle filtering method to predict and update target states. Proposed is the AMM-PF(Auxiliary Multiple Model Particle Filter)[2] method for maneuvering target tracking to improve performance in track estimate and maintenance with a high level of uncertainty. The algorithm we propose is compared to the Extended Kalman Filter(EKF). A simulation study is included.

  • This paper proposes the genetic algorithm (GA)-based fuzzy modeling method for intelligent tracking of a maneuvering target. When the maneuvering to turn or taking evasive action, the performance of the standard Kalman filter has been degraded because residual between the modeled target dynamics and the actual target dynamics. To solve this problem, the state prediction error is minimized by the intelligent estimation method. Then, this filter is corrected by measurement corrections which is the fuzzy system. The performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the input estimation(IE) technique through computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a new fuzzy-neural-network based interacting multiple model (FNNBIMM) algorithm for tracking a maneuvering target. To effectively handle the unknown target acceleration, this paper regards it as additional noise, time-varying variance to target model. Each sub model characterized by the variance of the overall process noise, which is obtained on the basis of each acceleration interval. Since it is hard to approximate this time-varying variance adaptively owing to the unknown acceleration, the FNN is utilized to precisely approximate this time-varying variance. The gradient descendant method is utilized to optimize each FNN. To show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is provided.

  • In previous work Kwon and Yoo [5] have shown that the FIR tracking algorithm using the input estimation technique. However, it has not solved the problem of systems with parameter uncertainties. Therefore, in this paper we propose a new robust $H_{\infty}$ FIR tracking filter to solve the target tracking problems under systems with parameter uncertainties. Also, we use here the input estimation approach to account for the possibility of maneuver. Simulation results show that the robust $H_{\infty}$ FIR tracking filter proposed here still has good tracking performance for a maneuvering target tracking problem even under all system parameter uncertainties.

  • This article proposes algorithms for the automatic initiation of the tracks of maneuvering targets in cluttered environments. These track initiation algorithms consist of IPDA-AI(Integrated Probabilistic Data Association-Amplitude Information) and MPDA(Most Probable Data Association) in an Interacting Multiple Model(IMM) configuration, and they are referred to as the IMM-IPDAF-AI and IMM-MPDA respectively. The IMM portion consists of several filters based on different dynamical models to handle target maneuvers. Each of the filters utilizes an IPDA-AI(or MPDA) algorithm to deal with the problem of track existence in the presence of clutter. Although the primary purpose of this study is to deal with the track initiation problem, the IMM-IPDAF-AI and IMM-MPDA can also be used for the maintenance of existing tracks and the termination of tracks for targets when they disappear. For illustrative purposes, simulation is used to compare the performance of the algorithms proposed to other track formation algorithms.

  • In this paper, a tracking algorithm for a maneuvering single target in the presence of multiple data from multiple sensors is investigated. Allowing individual sensors to function by themselves, the estimates from individual sensors on the same target are fused for the purpose of improving the state estimate. The filtering method adopted in the local sensors is the variable dimensional filter with input estimatio technique, which consists of a constant velocity model and a constant acceleration model. A posteriori probability for the maneuvering hypothesis is newly derived. It is shown that the relation function of the a posteriori probability is a function of only the covariance of the fused estimates. Simulation results are provided.

  • An improved filter for tracking a maneuvering target is presented. The proposed filter consists of two kalman filters based on different dynamic models and double decision logic. The use of double decision logic for the maneuver onset and ending detection leads to reduction in estimation error. This decision rule is based on evidence theory, Dempster-Shafer theory, which is extended in order to be applicable in the tracking problem. Simulation results show that the proposed filter performs better than IMM at a lower computational load.

  • The problem of maneuvering target tracking has been studied in the field of the state estimation over decades. The Kalman filter has been widely used to estimate the state of the target, but in the presence of a maneuver, its performance may be seriously degraded. In this paper, to solve this problem and track a maneuvering target effectively, a DNA coding-based interacting multiple model (DNA coding-based IMM) method is proposed. The proposed method can overcome the mathematical limits of conventional methods by using the fuzzy logic based on DNA coding method. The tracking performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the adaptive IMM algorithm and the GA-based IMM method in computer simulations.
