In this study, to make research on its optimum condition in friction weld when the heating pressure is change during 1.6 to 3.0 $kgf/mm^2$, the experiment was performed with metal bearing under various condition; 1600 r.p.m spindile speed, 0.6 $kgf/mm^2$ preheating pressure, upset pressure 2.6 $kgf/mm^2$, 0.5 seconds preheating time, 1.7 seconds heating time, water and air was ejected 6 $kgf/mm^2$ into the bushing. On the basis of the experimental results, the following conclusion are drawn; 1) At the area of weld interface, the heardness is shown the maximum value and heat-affected zone about 0.5mm both sides. 2) Bending strength is shown the optimum heating pressure 2.4 kgf/mm. 3) With the approach of the flash, Sn is increased only 2 mm in A-alloy structure.
Residual stresses, which can be produced during the welding process, play an important role in an industrial field. Welding residual stresses are exerting negative effect on the fatigue behavior and integrity of structure. In this study, as a result of the thermal elasto-plastic finite element analysis for the welds of a nuclear component, the residual stress distributions are estimated for as-welded condition. Also, finite element techniques are developed to simulate the relaxation of the residual stresses according to the various mechanical stress relieving(MSR) loads such as hydrostatic pressure loading, tensile pipe-end loading, and mechanical stress improvement process(MSIP) loading. Finally, the results of residual stress redistributions for various loading conditions are compared and reviewed qualitatively and quantitatively to find an optimum loading condition.
Root gap out of standard by welding deformation is frequently produced at butt weld joints of steel bridge. For example although standard root gap is below 6mm at butt weld joints of plates under 15mm thickness. maximum 35mm root opening is produced at the weld field. At this case, the part out of standard is generally built up and the rest part is welded by WPS. Direct welding without built-up welding is preferred in weld field because built-up welding process bring about the cost-up at manufacturing. To apply this direct weld to root gap out of standard, the investigation about mechanical properties and fatigue at weldment is required. Inthisstudy, therefore the verification for direct weld without built up is performed at weldment as root gap. It includes tension, bending. hardness, impact and fatigue test for each welding specimen of 6mm, 25mm, 35mm root gap.
In this paper the influence of postweld heat treatment on mechanical properties of SMAW and FCAW stainless steel weldments was examined and the obtained results are as follows ; (1) The amount of $\delta$-ferrite formed by SMAW and FCAW process decreased with increasing holding temperature and time in post weld heat treatment(PWHT), and it was found that the reduced ferrite was transformed into sigma phase after $800^{circ}C{\times}50hr$ PWHT. This sigma phase, even though it was very small, resulted in brittleness of dissimilar weldment between carbon steel and stainless steel in bending test, however in similar weldment between stainless steel and stainless steel was not occured. (2) The chemical composition of sigma phase was measured to 28-30%Cr, 7-9%Mo, 4-6Ni in 316L weldment, and also 35-37%Cr, 0.9-1.0Mo, 6-8%Ni in 309L weldment by EDS analysis.
One of the shortcoming of ferritic stainless steels is their limited toughness. The most important factor governing the toughness of ferritic stainless steels is hewn to be their interstitial contents. Due to the limited solubility of carbon and nitrogen in the ferrite matrix, it is difficult to avoid carbide and nitride precipitates. In the study, the role of nitrogen on the toughness of 260r-2Mo superferritic stainless steel welds has been investigated using alloys containing various nitrogen levels between 100 and 1640 ppm. Mechanical properties of weld metals have been evaluated by microhardness, Charpy impact test and notch tensile test. The alloys are mainly embrittled by the grain boundary and intragranular nitride precipitation. Grain boundary precipitates are considered to be more deleterious than intrauanular nitrides. Fracture mechanism have been elucidated through microscopic evaluation of notch tensile test
Different microstructures in the weld zone of a metal structure such as a fusion zone or heat affected zone are formed as compared to the parent material. Thus, the mechanical properties in the weld zone are different from those in the parent material. As the basic data for reliably understanding the structural characteristics of welded PCHE prototype made of SUS316L, the mechanical properties in the weld zone and parent material for a SUS316L plate are measured using an the instrumented indentation technique in this study.

Strength and failure of adhesively bonded carbon composite-to-aluminum single-lap joints were studied by experiment. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of various parameters such as curing pressure for bonding, overlap lengths, and adherend thickness on the failure loads and modes of the bonded Joints with dissimilar materials. Experimental results show that the bonding pressure for composite-to-aluminum dissimilar materials should be 4 atm at the lowest. Failure load of the joints increases as the overlap length increases, but the strength (failure load divided by bonded area) decreases rapidly after the overlap width-to-length ratio is greater than 1. When the adherend thickness increase to double, bonding strength increase $12{\sim}55%$. Major failure mode of the joints is the delamination in the composite laminate and the location of delamination goes deeper into the laminates as the bonding pressure and overlap length increase.
Integranular corrosion behaviors of KAL (Knife Line Attack) and mechanical properties such as tensile and creep rupture were investigated for the tube material used for nearly 20 years under the condition of 463.deg. C and 28 $kg/cm^2$. Based and weld metal were austenitic stainless steel AISI 321 containing Ti, AISI 347 containing Nb, respectively. KLA is a kind of the intergranular corrosion which often occurs just near the HAZ (heat affected zone) of AISI 321 and AISI 347 stainless steel due to the grain boundary sensitization. In KLA zone, intergranular corrosion crack has propagated outwards from the inner surface and carbides of white and narrow band type assuming as (Cr, Fe) carbide were confirmed. All the delta-ferrite formed in the weld metal during weld solidification has been transformed into sigma-phase since delta-ferrte was exposed for 20 years at 463.deg. C. Elongation was very low at the range from room temperature to 600.deg. C and it was confirmed that creep-rupture properties were not consideralbly affected.
The automotive manufactures increase their use of lightweight materials to improve fuel economy and energy usage has a significant influence on the choice of developing materials. To meet this requirements manufacturers are replacing individual body parts with lightweight metals, for these the process treating and painting surfaces is changing. The pre-coated steels are newly developed to avoid the conventional complex and non-environmental painting process in the body-in-white car manufacturing. The development of new joining techniques is critically needed for pre-coated steel sheets, which are electrically non-conductive materials. In the present study, dissimilar combination of pre-coated steel and galvanized steel sheets were joined by the self-piercing rivet, adhesive bonding and hybrid joining techniques. The tensile shear test and free falling high speed crash test were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties of the joints. The highest tensile peak load with large deformation was observed for the hybrid joining process which has attained 48% higher than the self-piercing rivet. Moreover, the hybrid and adhesive joints were observed better strain energy compared to self-piercing rivet. The fractography analyses were revealed that the mixed mode of cohesive and interfacial fracture for both the hybrid and adhesive bonding joints.
