  • Crosslinked chitin was prepared from epichlorohydrin and chitin which was isolated from waste marin source. The crosslinked chitosan were prepared by the deacetylation of the crosslinked chitin with a strong base. 2,2'-Iminodibenzoic acid-crosslinked chitosan was prepared by reacting 2,2'-Iminodibenzoic acid salt with crosslinked chitosan-Cl which was obtained by chlorination of crosslinked chitosan. The adsorptivity of Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) was studied as a synthetic adsorbent. Experimental results for the adsorption and the recovery characteristics showed that the more pH increase, the more amount of adsorbed metal ion increase. Optimum adsorption time was 1 hr, and adsorption capacity was increased in order of $Cu^{2+}$<$Cd^{2+}$<$Pb^{2+}$, and recovery capacity was increased in order of $Cd^{2+}$<$Cu^{2+}$<$Pb^{2+}$.

  • A major problem of nuclear energy is the production of radioactive wastes. Needs for more environmentally favorable method to decontaminate radioactive contaminants make the use of liqui $d^ercritical $CO_2$ as a solvent medium. In removing radioactive metallic contaminants under $CO_2$ solvent, two methods - use of chelating ligands and that of water in $CO_2$ emulsion-are possible. In the chelating ligand method, a combination of ligands that can make synergistic effects seems important. We discuss about the properties of microemulsion formed by F-AOT and that by non-ionic surfactant. By adding acid in water core, decontamination of metallic parts, soils were possible. The rate of metal surface dissolution to the microemulsion solution was measured by QCM. The possibility of recovering the surfactants after use is also mentioned.ed.

  • Corrosion is the degradation of metals by reaction with the environment. It is difficult to completely remove. Corrosion proceeds rapidly after the protective barrier is destroyed, and several reactions occur that alter the composition and properties of the metal surface and local environments, such as diffusion of metal cations into the matrix, the formation of oxides, and local pH changes. The study of corrosion of steel and iron is of theoretical and practical interest and is receiving considerable attention. Acid solutions, which are widely used in industrial pickling, acid descaling, cleaning and acidification of oil wells, require the use of corrosion inhibitors to suppress corrosion attacks on metallic materials. Physical removal of rust requires expensive special equipment, and chemical removal of it can cause corrosion or shorten the life of the metal. In this study, an eco-friendly rust cleaner was developed using cosmetics and food materials by applying the concept of perm reducing agent and chelate, and applied to remove rust from industrial and hot water pipes and various industrial devices. As a result, it was found that rust cleaners remove rust more effectively and safely compared to conventional treatment methods. At the same time, the rust removal efficiency was 1.75 to 2.5 times better for industrial piping and 1.56 to 2.2 times better for boiler hot water than conventional methods.

  • In order to prepare high performance polymeric membrane, the crosslinked chitosan(C. Chitosan)membrane was prepared, the transport and the selective separation of the metal ions through the membrane were investigated. It was observed that the transport rates of the metal ions through the membrane increased according to the decreasing of the initial pH in downstream solution. Proton pump mechanism for this transport phenomenon was suggested. The transport selectivity is dependent on the selective adsorption resulting from the complex formation of chitosan with each metal ion. The separatin factor(${\alpha}_{Cu}{^{2+}}$) for the membrane was 9.5.

  • Resins of polystyrene supported triethylenetetramine of linear and claw types have been prepared by the reaction of triethylenetetramine with chloromethylated polystyrene. The resin supported triethylenetetramines were principally characterized by infrared spectra. Kinetics of adsorption of transition metals on the resin have been investigated. This paper reports the results of the diffusion coefficients and entropies of activation. The rate determining step is a process of diffussion through the particle.

  • Isonitrosobenzoylacetone is particularly interesting, as the isonitroso group has two potentially coordinating sites which can compete with the cabonyl groups in forming bonds with the metal ions. In this paper tris(isonitrosobenzoylacetonato)cobalt(III) and bis(isonitrosobenzoylacetonato)palladium(II) have been prepared, and their structures have been investigated. Spectroscopic studies lead to the conclusion that the both complexes do not contain an OH group in the chelated five-membered ring structure in which the ligand coordinates to metal through oxygen of the acetyl group and nitrogen of the isonitroso group. The coordination manner of this ligand is similar to that of isonitrosobenzoylacetone obtained by Patel and Haldar.

  • Major egg white proteins and their hydrolysates serve as functional food ingredients that have certain metal-chelating properties. Employing egg white proteins and their hydrolysates to scavenge dietary oxalates is anticipated to have beneficial effect in the prevention of kidney stones. The objective of this study was to determine the biogenic oxalate-chelating activity of ovalbumin, ovomucin, and ovotransferrin and their hydrolysates. To prepare oxalate extracts, 30 mL of 0.25 N HCl was added to separately to 0.5 g of dried spinach and starfruit powders followed by boiling for 15 min, and after cooling, the addition of a further 20 mL of 0.25 N HCl. Having prepared these extracts, ovalbumin, ovomucin, and ovotransferrin and their hydrolysates were separately mixed with oxalate extracts and incubated at 3℃ for 24 h. Following centrifugation, supernatants were analyzed by HPLC using a reverse-phase C18 column coupled with a diode array detector. We found that all assessed proteins and their hydrolysates showed biogenic oxalate-chelating activity against the oxalates of spinach. In contrast, however, only ovalbumin, ovalbumin-hydrolysate, and ovomucin showed chelating activity (57.10%±8.84%, 85.44%±5.30%, 73.20%±4.13%, respectively) against the oxalates of starfruit (P<0.05). Overall, hydrolyzed ovalbumin was identified as the most effective chelator of the oxalates both spinach and starfruit. In this study, we thus established that the assessed egg white proteins and their hydrolysates have oxalate-chelating activity in vitro, thereby indicating that these compounds have potential utility as nutraceuticals for the chelation of dietary oxalate. However, further research will be necessary to verify their oxalate-chelating activities against different fruits and vegetables and under specific in vivo conditions and against purified oxalate.

  • Conventional decontamination methods utilize water-based systems, which generate high amounts of secondary wastes. Herein, we describe an environmentally benign decontamination method using liquid and supercritical $CO_2$. The use of $CO_2$ as a solvent affords effective waste reduction by its ability to be recycled, thereby leaving be hind only the contaminants upon its evaporation. In this study, a $CO_2$ solution process was assessed using t-salen(t-butylsalen), DC18C6 (dicyclohexano-18Crown6), 8-HQN(8-hydroxyquinoline), NEt4PFOSA(perfluoro-1-octanesulfonic acid tetra-ethyl ammonium salt), and NEt4PFOA(pentadecafluorooctanoic acid ammonium salt) to extract spiked radioactive contaminants(Nb,Zr,Co,Sr) from an inert sample matrix, namely filter paper. With the static extraction method, Sr was extracted with a maximum extraction rate of 97%, and Nb was extracted with a maximum extraction rate of 75%. Additionally, we were also able to extract Co and Zr with maximum extract ion ratesof 73% and 64%, respectively.

  • The polyamine resins were synthesized by reacting amines such as diethylenetriamine(dien), triethylenetetramine(trien), tetraethylenepentamine(tetren), and pentaethylenehexamine(penten). Stepwise dissociation constants of amines, enthalpy and free energy of metal chelate were determined. Formation constants $(log k_1) of metal chelates were in order of Cu(Ⅱ) > Ni(Ⅱ) > Cd(Ⅱ) > Zn(Ⅱ) > Co(Ⅱ) and tendency of stabilities were proportional to nitrogen numbers of ligand such as dien < trien < tetren > penten. Elutional selectivites of metal ions on resin were agreed to formation constants of metal chelates. {\Delta}H and {\Delta}G were calculated by Van't Hoff equation. Stability constants (log k1) of metalic complexes were in order Cu(Ⅱ) > Ni(Ⅱ) > Cd(Ⅱ) > Zn(Ⅱ) > Co(Ⅱ), and tendency of stabilities were {\circledP}_L-Dien < {\circledP}_L-Trien < {\circledP}_L-Tetren < {\circledP}_L-Penten. The elutional selectivities of metal ions were agreed to stability constants of metal chelates.
