The weldability and mechanical property of CP titanium by GTAW (순 타이타늄의 GTAW 용접성 및 기계적 특성)

  • 산업의 고도화에 따른 구조물의 사용 환경이 열악해지고 최근 에너지저감과 환경문제 개선을 위한 경화의 요구에 따라 뛰어난 내식성 및 우수한 고비강도 특성을 갖고 있는 타이타늄 및 타이타늄합금의 활용에 대한 연구가 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 이에 따라 타이타늄 신합금의 개발뿐만 아니라 기존에 개발되어 비교적 보편적으로 적용되고 있는 타이타늄 부품의 제조 및 성형기술에 대한 수요도 급증하고 있다. 특히, 기기 및 부품 제조를 위한 용접/접합기술도 매우 중요한 요소기술로 자리메김하고 있다. 타이타늄은 산소, 수소 등의 침입형 원소와의 친화력이 강한 활성이 큰 금속으로 용접시 고온에 노출되면 급격히 산화 및 취화 등의 문제를 발생한다. 따라서 타이타늄의 용접시에는 $426^{\circ}C$이상의 온도에서는 대기로부터 용접부가 차단되도록 하는 쉴딩기술이 매우 중요하다. 타이타늄의 용접은 일반적으로 아크용접, 전자빔 용접, 레이저 용접 및 확산접합 등이 적용되고 있으나 용접입열 조정이 용이하고 아크 안정성이 높고 용접부의 기계적 특성이 우수한 GTA 용접이 작업성을 고려하여 가장 많이 적용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 미국용접학회(AWS)의 타이타늄 용접가이드를 분석 및 소개하였고, 1t 이하의 박판 CP Ti를 대상으로 GTAW 용접부 미세조직 및 기계적 특성을 분석하였다. 이때, 용접 비드폭 제어 및 펄스 용접기술을 통하여 박판 타이타늄의 최적 GTAW 공정변수 제어기술을 분석하였다.

Enhanced photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction using immobilized nanotubular TiO2 on Ti substrates and flat type photoreactor (티타늄 금속지지체에 고정화된 나노튜브 광촉매와 평판형 광반응기를 이용한 Cr(VI) 환원처리 효율 향상 연구)

  • In this study, flat-type photocatalytic reaction system is applied to reduce toxic hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) to trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) in aqueous solution under UV irradiation. To overcome the limitation of conventional photocatalysis, a novel approach toward photocatalytic system for reduction of hexavalent chromium including nanotubular $TiO_2$ (NTT) on two kinds of titanium substrates (foil and mesh) were established. In addition, modified Ti substrates were prepared by bending treatment to increase reaction efficiency of Cr(VI) in the flat-type photocatalytic reactor. For the fabrication of NTT on Ti substrates, Ti foil and mesh was anodized with mixed electrolytes ($NH_4F-H_2O-C_2H_6O_2$) and then annealed in ambient oxygen. The prepared NTT arrays were uniformly grown on two Ti substrates and surface property measurements were performed through SEM and XRD. Hydraulic retention time(HRT) and substrate type were significantly affected the Cr(VI) reduction. Hence, the photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction was observed to be highest up to 95% at bended(modified) Ti mesh and lowest HRT. Especially, Ti mesh was more effective as NTT substrate in this research.

  • The transesterification of dimethyl terephthalate(DMT) with ethylene glycol(EG) was kinetically investigated in the temperature range from 190 to $240^{\circ}C$ with and without a zinc acetate(Zn) as a catalyst. The degree of reaction was calculated by the measurement of the quantity of methanol which distilled from the reaction vessel. This distillation made corrections of reactant and catalyst concentrations necessary. The effects of catalyst concentration, molar ratio of DMT and EG, types of metal compounds, and temperature on kinetics were studied. The catalytic activity of various metal compounds was excellent, in order of Ti, Zn, Sn, and Sb. Also the order of activation energy was Zn>Ti>Sn>Sb.

  • This paper deals with the anisotropy of the mushy region during solidification process of a binary mixture. A theoretical model which specifies a permeability tensor in terms of pricipal values is proposed. Also, the governing equations are modified into convenient forms for the numerical analysis with the existing algorithm. Some test computations are performed for soeidification of aqueous ammonium chloride solution contained in a square cavity. Results show that not only the present model is capable of resolving fundamental characteristics of the tranport phenomena, but also the anisotropy significantly affects the interdendritic flow structure, i.e., double-diffusive convection and macrosegregation patterns.

  • Various commercial catalysts used in chemical related applications have been disposed as an industrial waste when the catalytic activity of catalysts is not good enough to achieve an optimum yield. In addition, the amount of disposed three way catalysts (TWC) has been continuously increased. Considering the physicochemical, environmental, and economical characteristics, the deactivated spent catalysts can be treated in several alternative ways such as regeneration, recycling, and disposal. In view of the environmental and economical matters, the spent catalyst should be regenerated and used for the various purposes, although its activity is not as good as a fresh catalyst. On the other hand, spent catalysts containing noble and metal oxides can be applicable for the catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by applying the proper treatment method. Therefore in this review the quantity of the spent catalysts and the available regeneration methods for the spent catalysts are briefly summarized and especially the proper regeneration method for applying the catalytic oxidation of VOCs and its results are introduced.

  • The catalytic oxidation of 1,2-dichloribenzene (1,2-DCB) and simultaneous catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides over the single catalyst has been investigated over various metals (Ru, Mn, Co and Fe) supported on $Al_2O_3$ and $CeO_{2}$. The activity of the different catalysts for catalytic oxidation of 1,2-dichloribenzene depended on the used metal, Ru/Co/$Al_2O_3$, Mn-Fe/CeO2 and Cr/$Al_2O_3$ (commercial catalysts) being the most actives ones. In the catalytic oxidation of chlorobenzene (CB), Ru/Co/$Al_2O_3$ is better than Pt-Pd/$Al_2O_3$, which is the well-known catalyst good for VOC oxidation. Furthermore, it has a good durability on the deactivation by $Cl_2$ and sulfur. For nitrogen oxides (NOx) removal, NOx conversion was 70% at $260^{\circ}C$.

Preparation and Properties of Polyorganosiloxane Modified Maleated EPDM/EPDM Rubber Vibration Isolator (Polyorganosiloxane 변성 말레화 EPDM/EPDM 방진고무의 제조와 그 특성)

  • The surface of Alnico, one of the industrial dust waste, was treated with 1,3,5-trivinyl-1,3,5-trimethylcyclotrisilazane (VMS) as a surface treating agent and used as the filler for vibration isolator rubber. Maleated EPDM prepared from bulk polymerization of EPDM with maleic anhydride was copolymerized with ${\alpha},{\omega}$-bis(3-aminopropyl)polydimethylsiloxane to obtain maleated EPDM-polydimethylsiloxane copolymer (MEPDM-PDMS). EPDM/Alnico/MEPDM-PDMS vibration isolator rubber was prepared from compounding with Alnico treated with surface treating agent, 25 and 50 phrs to EPDM, respectvely based on 1 to 10 wt% of MEPDM-PDMS to EPDM. From the measurement of the thermal properties to the rubber, the glass transition temperatures (Tg) for the rubber containing maleated EPDM-PDMS copolymer was slightly lower temperature, $33^{\circ}C$ than EPDM rubber, and also DMA results showed higher tan ${\delta}$ peak to the rubber prepared from compounding with EPDM-PDMS copolymer. From the results, rubber prepared using EPDM-PDMS copolymer had better vibration isolator property.

Antioxidant Effect of some Phenolics on Soybean Oil (식용대두유에 대한 Phenolics의 항산화 효과)

  • Some phenolics were examined as an antioxidant for the autoxidation of soybean oil. Soybean oil was autoxidized under a mild condition (the flow rate of 67ml $O_{2}/min$ and $50^{\circ}C$). The antioxidant effect was estimated by active oxygen method. Phenolics show distinctive antioxidant effect, and the effect is prominent when cupper or iron was added. Phenolics showed a tendency to increase antioxidant effect with an increase of the number of hydroxyl group, and the increasing order was ferulic acid, quinalizarin, sesamol, alizarin, fisetin and purpurogallin. However, the effect was remarkably low in ferulic acid, alizarin and quinalizarin. It was found that the antioxidant effect was dependent on the functional group and geometric molecular structure of phenolics.

Antimicrobial Activity and Stability of Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate Peroxidate (과산화피로인산나트륨의 항균성 및 안정성)

  • Tetrasodium pyrophosphate peroxidate can be crystallized as a hydrogen-peroxide-bound salt from the solution of tetrasodium pyrophosphate and hydrogen peroxide. The antimicrobial activity and stability of the compound were tested for the use as a food preservative. It showed antimicrobial activities against several food spoilage microorganisms at the concentration of 0.1% (w/v), and was stable for 80 days in room temperature as a form of 70% hydrogen-peroxide-bound tetrasodium pyrophosphate peroxidate. It was also stable at the boiling temperature but decomposed significantly in the presence of metal ions. The compound can be an effective food preservative at the 0.2% (w/v) concentration, which contains 0.03% (v/v) hydrogen peroxide. The compound could be commercialized if the application area and usage direction as well as the removal method of hydrogen peroxide were developed.

헬리콘 플라즈마의 연구 현황

  • Aigrain에 의해 Helicon이라는 이름이 명명된 이후, helicon은 저온의 금속과 같은 높은 전도도(conductivity)를 갖는 매질이나 강한 자기장이 걸려있는 plasma를 전파해 나가는 저주파 전자기장을 지칭해왔다. 이온화된 개스에서 이러한 전자기장은 전자 공명 주파수(electron cyclotron frequency)와 이온 공명 주파수(ion cyclotron frequency) 사이의 주파수로 전파하며 전리층 (ionosphere)을 통과하며 발생하는 가청 주파수 영역대의 음조가 강하하는 현상에 의해 low-frequency whistler라고도 불린다. Helicon wave plasma는 Boswell에 의해 처음 발생된 후, 높은 이온화율(~100%)로 인해 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 1985년에 Chen은 helicon plasma의 높은 이온화율을 설명하기 위해 Landaudamping을 제시하였다. 이러한 설명은 1997년에 Shamrai에 의해 TG mode가 도입되기 전까지 직접적인 실험결과 없이 helicon plasma 발생의 mechanism으로 받아들여졌다. shamrai의 이론에 의하면 정전기파(electrostatic wave)는 plasma의 표면(surface)에서 강하게 감쇄되어 energy를 전달하게 된다. Cho는 radial density 분포가 외각보다 중심이 높을 경우 TG wave의 power 전달이 중심에서 일어날 수 있음을 계산하였다. Helicon plasma의 특성은 높은 이온화율에 의한 높은 밀도($\geq$1012cm3), 1-2 kW의 rf power에서 상대적으로 낮은 전자 온도( 4eV), $\omega$ci $\omega$LH<$\omega$ $\omega$ce $\omega$pe 영역대의 주파수, 자기장 50-1200 Gauss, 압력 1-10 mTorr로 특정지을 수 있다. 이러한 외부분수들의 조건에 k라 helicon plasma는 여러 종류의 mode로 존재한다. Degeling은 이러한 mode의 변화를 capacitive mode, inductive mode, 그리고 helicon mode(wave mode)의 세가지 부분으로 구분하였다. Helicon plasma가 갖는 높은 이온화율은 여러 가지 응용으로의 가능성을 가지고 있다. 그 예로 plasma processing, plasma wave에 의한 입자 가속, 그리고 가스 레이저 활성 매질 발생 등이 있다. 특히 plasma processing의 경우 helicon plasma는 높은 밀도, 비교적 낮은 자기장, remote operation 등이 가능하다는 점에서 현재 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 상업용으로도 PMT와 Lucas Signatone Corp.에 서 helicon source가 제작되었다. 또한 높은 해리율을 이용하여 저유전 물질인 SiOF의 증착에서 적용되고 있다. 이 외에도 다수의 연구결과들이 발표되었다.
