A study of modern metal craft using analytical formative beauty of line and surface (선과 면의 해석적 조형미를 활용한 현대금속공예 연구)

  • This study was started to study the artistic aesthetic value of the antique artwork which is gradually declining in the field of metal crafts. The aesthetic interpretation of the lines and faces that have been identified through previous researches has been defined as a vitality and repetitive beauty. The researchers here have tried to express the formative works which can be repeated and change. As a result, it was found that the object of inquiry which can express the aesthetic beauty felt in the simple change of the line and the face is possible without the advanced technique of the difficult technique or the molding method through the natural and gradual change of the line and the face rather than the regular repetition. Through this study, it was found that the use of future lines and surfaces could be utilized as a variety of aesthetic expression methods as molding elements.

  • Direct Metal Manufacturing (DMM) is a new additive process that aims to take die making and metalworking in an entirely new direction. It is the blending of five common technologies : lasers, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), sensors and powder metallurgy. The resulting process creates parts by focusing an industrial laser beam onto a tool-steel work piece or platform to create a molten pool of metal. A small stream of powdered tool-steel metal is then injected into the melt pool to increase the size of the molten pool. By moving the laser beam back and forth, under CNC control, and tracing out a pattern determined by a computerized CAD design, the solid metal part is built line-by-line, one layer at a time. DMM produces improved material properties in less time and at a lower cast than is possible with traditional fabrication.

  • 쾌속조형기술은 제품 설계나 기타 물체의 형상 데이터로부터 광경화성 수지, 금속 등 다양한 재료를 이용하여 수 시간 내에 실물 모형을 제작할 수 있는 기술이다. 쾌속조형기술은 주로 자동차나 제품의 모형제작에 주로 사용되어 왔다. 사이버메드에서는 인체에 대한 3차원 형상화 기술과 쾌속조형기술을 이용하여 개인별로 상이한 인체 골격에 대한 비교적 저렴한 비용으로 실물 모형을 제작할 수 있는 기술을 개발하여, 국내 및 일본의 병원에서 수술 계획 및 모형 수술에 직접 적용하고 있다. 이 논문은 쾌속 조형 기술, 인체의 3차원 형상화 기술의 개요와 그 동향, 그리고 이를 결합한 수술용 인체 골격모형의 제작 기술과 적용 사례에 대해서 기술하였다.

  • 산업 현장에서 많이 사용되는 정밀주조법은 왁스형 제작 공정이 수작업으로 이루어지기 때문에 시간과 비용이 많이 소요된다. 이를 쾌속조형기를 이용하여 신속하고 정밀하게 왁스형을 제작하는 공정을 개발하였다. 먼저 3D CAD 데이터를 SLS형 쾌속조형기에서 캐스트폼 분말을 사용하여 캐스트폼형을 만든다. 오븐에서 왁스를 용융시키고 여기에 캐스트폼형을 넣어서 왁스가 캐스트폼형의 공극에 함침되도록 한다. 천천히 냉각시킨 후 꺼내면 왁스형이 완성되며 이를 일반적인 정밀주조공점을 거치면 최종 금속 주물이 완성된다. 이 신공정을 이용함으로서 제작시간과 비용이 크게 단축되었으며 제품의 정밀도가 향상되었다.

  • In this study, the productivity and environmental effects of laser aided direct metal deposition (LADMD) process which is one of promising rapid manufacturing technology is evaluated. The production time predicted using PowerMill shows that the productivity of LADMD is superior to that of conventional milling process. Though LADMD is known as an environment-friendly technology, it has a disadvantage to utilize much energy to generate laser beam. Considering both productivity and environmental effects, LADMD is expected to be widely used in remanufacturing industry.

  • The investment casting process is used frequently to manufacture precise and complex shape metal parts. The previous wax pattern manufacturing process takes long time and high costs because the process is performed by hands. In order to improve the wax manufacturing process, a new process is developed to manufacture the wax pattern by using a rapid prototyping system. A CastForm pattern is made by a Selective laser Sintering type RP with CastForm powder. The CastForm pattern is dipped in the melted wax liquid, and the melted wax penetrates into the pores of the CastForm pattern. Wax pattern is obtained after cooling the CastForm pattern slowly. A stainless steel part has been manufactured by the suggested process. By obtaining the suggested process the manufacturing time and costs are reduced largely and the accuracy is improved.
