Dynamic Analysis of a Slider in Near-field Optical Recording Disk Drive (근접장 광기록용 슬라이더의 동특성 분석)

  • Dynamic analysis using impulse responses is formulated to estimate effect of slider rail shape on dynamic responses in near-field optical recording drive. Impulse responses are obtained on numerical nonlinear model including rigid motion of a slider and fluid motion of an air bearing under the slider. Dynamic characteristics of slider motion are evaluated by utilizing the decay ratio of impulse responses and modal frequencies from frequency response functions. The dynamic characteristics of the designed NFR slider are checked by comparing those of a HDD slider(Nutcracker). Also, sensitivities of slider Position conditions and rotation speed on the dynamic characteristics are investigated.

  • In this study the optimization of a NFR suspension is performed using finite element method and experimental modal analysis. NFR suspensions are required to have low compliance modes to allow the slider to comply with the rotating disk, and high tracking stiffness modes to maximize the servo bandwidth of the tracking controller First of all, the dual suspension model is designed based on the characteristics of NFR drives. And the parametric study on the sensitivities of compliance modes and tracking stiffness modes is investigated. Finally, the model satisfying static characteristics is selected and shape optimization is performed to improve dynamic characteristics. A prototype of a NFR suspension is made by etching and modal ekperiment in free state is performed. The results of experiment almost agree with those of finite element method.

  • So far the study of near-field optical recording(NFR) suspensions has not been investigated sufficiently. In this study the optimization of a NFR suspension is performed using finite element method. NFR suspensions are required to have low compliance modes to allow the slider to comply with the rotating disk, and high tracking stiffness modes to maximize the servo bandwidth of the tracking controller First of all, a basic integrated type suspension model is obtained using topology optimization And the parametric study on the sensitivities of the compliance modes and tracking stiffness modes is performed. Finally, a model satisfying static characteristics is elected and shape optimization is performed to improve dynamic characteristics.

  • The near-field scanning micro scope (NSOM) technique is in the spotlight as the next generation storage device. Many different types of read/write mechanism for NSOM have been introduced in the literature. In order for a near-field probe to be successfully implemented in the system, a suitable slider and suspension are needed to be properly designed. The optical slider is designed considering near-filed optics and probe array. The suspension generally supports slider performance, and tracking servo capacity in HDD. Moreover, the suspension for optical slider also should meet the optical characteristics, and is also required to satisfy shock performances for the mobility for the actuator. In this study, the optical slider and the suspension for near-field probe array are designed and analyzed.

  • Gap servo NFR (Near Field Recording) system is one of technologies to reduce beam spot size by increasing NA (Numerical Aperture) of lens. To achieve high NA, SIL (Solid Immersion Lens) is used. In case of using a blue LD (405 nm) as the light source the gap distance should be controlled under 100 nm with much tighter margin. To develop NFR disc drive with very small gap distance between SIL bottom and the surface of media, we need to research for the vibration characteristics and design considerations. This paper deals with a study on vibration characteristic of NFR disc drive.

Also, sensitivities of slider position conditions and rotation speed on the dynamic characteristics are investigated. The researches show that the utilized method is a good indicator of designing the better slider.
