Discrimination of Alismatis Rhizoma According to Geographical Origins using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (근적외선분광법을 이용한 택사의 산지 판별법 연구)

  • Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) combined with multivariate analysis was used to discriminate the geographical origin of Alisma orientale from Korea (n=94) and China (n=72). Two-thirds of samples were selected randomly for the training set, and one-third of samples for the test set. Second derivative was used for the pretreatment of NIR spectra. Partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) models correctly discriminated 100% of the Korean and Chinese A. orientale samples. These results demonstrate the potential use of NIR spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis as a rapid and accurate method to discriminate A. orientale according to their geographical origin.

  • Angelicae gigantis radix is the root of the perennial plant, which belongs to the family Umbelliferae. However, this herbal drug is represented quite different chemical components according to its different genus name, though other herbal drugs (i.e. Leonuri Herba, Xanthii Fructus and so on) show similar constituents on the same name. The root of Angelica gigas containing the coumarin compounds is commonly used in Korea, while Angelica sinensis and Angelica acutiloba including phthalide compounds are used in China and Japan, respectively as Angelicae gigantis radix. In this paper, a nearinfrared spectroscopic method was developed to determine genus name of Angelica spp., especially A. gigas and A. sinensis which are commonly misused in herbal markets. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and electronic nose have been also applied as nondestructive methods to discriminate A. gigas from A. sinensis according to their specific properties.

Prediction on the Quality of Forage Crop by Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (근적외선 분광법에 의한 사초의 성분추정)

  • This study was conducted to find out an alternative way of rapid and accurate analysis of forage quality. Near reflectance infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was used to evaluate the possibility of forage analysis and collect 258 samples such as barley for whole crop silage, forage corn and sudangrass from 2002 to 2007. The samples were analyzed for CP (crude protein), CF (crude fiber), ADF (acid detergent fiber), NDF (neutral detergent fiber) and IVTD (in vitro true digestibility), and also scanned using NIRSystem with wavelength from $400{\sim}2,400nm$. Multiple linear regression was used with wet analysis data for developing the calibration model and validate unknown samples. The important index In this experiment was SEC and SEP $r^2$ for CF, CP, NDF, ADF and IVTD in calibration set were 0.70, 0.86, 0.94, 0.94 and 0.89, also 0.47, 0.39, 0.89, 0.90 and 0.61 in validation sample, respectively. The results of this experiment indicates that NIRS was reliable analytical method to assess forage quality, specially in CF, ADF and IVTD, sample should be included for respective forage samples to get accurate result. More robust calibrations can be made to cover every forage samples if added representative sample set.

Discrimination of Pasture Spices for Italian Ryegrass, Perennial Ryegrass and Tall Fescue Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (근적외선분광법을 이용한 이탈리안 라이그라스, 페레니얼 라이그라스,톨 페스큐 종자의 초종 판별)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to discriminate between grass spices. A combination of NIRS and chemometrics was used to discriminate between Italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue seeds. A total of 240 samples were used to develop the best discriminant equation, whereby three spectra range (visible, NIR, and full range) were applied within a 680 nm to 2500 nm wavelength. The calibration equation for the discriminant analysis was developed using partial least square (PLS) regression and discrimination equation (DE) analysis. A PLS discriminant analysis model for the three spectra range that was developed with the mathematic pretreatment "1,8,8,1" successfully discriminated between Italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue. An external validation indicated that all of the samples were discriminated correctly. The discriminant accuracy was shown as 68%, 78%, and 73% for Italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue, respectively, with the NIR full-range spectra. The results demonstrate the usefulness of the NIRS-chemometrics combination as a rapid method for the discrimination of grass species by seed.

Variey Discrimination of Sorghum-Sudangrass Hybrids Seed Using near Infrared Spectroscopy (근적외선분광법을 이용한 수수×수단그라스 교잡종 종자의 품종 판별)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of discrimination 12 different cultivar of sorghum × sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum genus) seed through near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The amount of samples for develop to the best discriminant equation was 360. Whole samples were applied different three spectra range (visible, NIR and full range) within 680-2500 nm wavelength and the spectrastar 2500 Near near infrared was used to measure spectra. The calibration equation for discriminant analysis was developed partial least square (PLS) regression and discrimination equation (DE) analysis. The PLS discriminant analysis model for three spectra range developed with mathematic pretreatment 1,8,8,1 successfully discriminated 12 different sorghum genus. External validation indicated that all samples were discriminated correctly. The whole discriminant accuracy shown 82 ~ 100 % in NIR full range spectra. The results demonstrated the usefulness of NIRS combined with chemometrics as a rapid method for discrimination of sorghum × sudangrass hybrid cultivar through seed.

  • When the fire occurred in building, the fire-resistance-structure has to be constructed to prevent collapse of building and to have a time for evacuation of peoples. because of the features of the fireresistance test is similar with real scale, there is no way to confirm quality of fire-resistive-structure in building construction site. Therefore the purpose of this study, a study by spectroscopic analysis using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR), is to suggest of useful and scientific testing-methods in building construction site by identification-analysis-study for fire resistive paint.

Evaluation of Feed Values for Imported Hay Using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (근적외선분광법을 이용한 수입 건초의 사료가치 평가)

  • Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has become increasingly used as a rapid and accurate method of evaluating some chemical compositions in forages. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of NIRS, applied to imported forage, to estimate the moisture and chemical parameters for imported hays. A population of 392 imported hay representing a wide range in chemical parameters was used in this study. Samples of forage were scanned at 1 nm intervals over the wavelength range 680-2500nm and the optical data was recorded as log 1/Reflectance(log 1/R), which scanned in intact fresh condition. The spectral data were regressed against a range of chemical parameters using partial least squares(PLS) multivariate analysis in conjunction with spectral math treatments to reduced the effect of extraneous noise. The optimum calibrations were selected based on the highest coefficients of determination in cross validation(R2) and the lowest standard error of cross-validation(SECV). The results of this study showed that NIRS predicted the chemical parameters with very high degree of accuracy. The R2 and SECV for imported hay calibration were 0.92(SECV 0.61%) for moisture, 0.98(SECV 0.65%) for acid detergent fiber, 0.97(SECV 0.40%) for neutral detergent fiber, 0.99(SECV 0.06%) for crude protein and 0.97(SECV 3.04%) for relative feed value on a dry matter(%), respectively. Results of this experiment showed the possibility of NIRS method to predict the moisture and chemical composition of imported hay in Korea for routine analysis method to evaluate the feed value.

Use of Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy for Determination of Grain Components in Barley (보리종실 성분분석을 위한 근적외선분광광도계의 이용방법)

  • Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) has been used as a tool for the rapid, accurate and nondestructive assay of small grain and forage quality analysis. The objective of this study was to establish the rapid, easy and accurate analysis method for major components of covered barley using NIRS system. NIRS used in this study was filter type instrument, Neotec 102. To obtain a useful calibration equation, standard regression between the data was analyzed by chemical analysis and by NIRS method. Standard errors of prediction (SEP) and simple correlations for unknown samples were calculated using obtained equation. SEPs for starch, $\beta$-glucan, protein and ash contents were 2.75%, 0.64%, 0.26% and 0.19%, respectively. The simple correlations for starch, $\beta$-glucan, protein and ash contents were 0.932, 0.588, 0.984 and 0.867, respectively. It was concluded that the NIRS method would be applicabl for the rapid determination of starch, protein and ash contents in barley grains.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop to portable near infrared analyzer measuring the sugar content of the fruits on a tree before harvesting ones. The portable near infrared system consists of a tungsten lamp, a coaxial optical fiber bundle and a multi-channel detector, which has 256 pixels and a concave transmission grating. Reflectance NIR spectra of orange were recorded by using a coaxial optical fiber bundle. The spectra were collected over the spectral range $400{\sim}1100nm$. Partial least squares regression(PLSR) was applied for a calibration and validation for determination of sugar contents. The multiple correlation coefficient was 0.99 and standard errors of calibration(SEC) was 0.069 brix. The calibration model predicted the sugar content for validation set with standard errors of prediction(SEP) of 0.092 brix. The sugar content in fruits was successfully quantified using the portable near infrared analyzer.

Determination of Barley Grain Components at Different Maturing Stages by Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopic Analysis (근적외선분광분석법에 의한 등숙시기별 보리종실의 성분측정)

  • This study was conducted to establish the rapid determination method for major components of maturing covered barley grains, and to improve the efficiency of selection in barley breeding. Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) is an established, economical and nondestructive technique applied widely to the food and feed industry. 34 barley lines were sampled at 5 day-interval from 25 to 35 days after heading. A standard regression analysis for the data obtained by analytical laboratory methods and NIRS method was carried out to get a useful calibration equation. The simple significant correlation between these two methods at 25 days after heading was recognized in starch and $\beta$-glucan contents. At 30 days after heading the data obtained by two methods showed significant correlation in starch, $\beta$-glucan and protein contents. Analyzed data and that from NIRS method at 35 days after heading was significantly correlated in starch and protein contents. It was concluded that the applicability of NIRS method for the components analysis in maturing barley grains was different depending on maturing stages and components.
