Botulinum toxin type A(BTX-A) has been applied successfully to treat masseteric hypertrophy. However it can cause muscle weakness. This study was designed to measure the change in maximum bite force(MBF) after BTX-A injection into human masseter muscle and to evaluate the influence of a booster(repeated) injection. Thirty volunteers completed 18-week follow-up and MBF was measured. At 18 weeks after the first injection, a booster injection was given to 14 patients and they were followed up until 18 weeks from the booster injection. The mean MBF was approximately 20% lower at 2 weeks than before the injection, and it recovered gradually after 4 weeks to return to the preinjection level at 12 weeks. The MBF differed significantly between before the injection and at 2, 4, and 8 weeks after the injection(p<0.05). In booster injection group(n=14),the MBF decreased markedly at 6 weeks(p<0.05),and it recovered gradually in 12 weeks. The MBF was significantly reduced after booster injection of BTX-A into the human masseter muscle. The degree of discomfort experienced by the subjects had little effect on normal mastication.
Purpose: To determine the effects of neck and back touch on Ultrasonic Vocalization (UV) and the Rat Grimace Scale (RGS) in rats touched by the human hand as an intervention for reducing pain and anxiety associated with intramuscular injections. Methods: This study was a randomized, controlled, pre-test/post-test design study. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to either the experimental or control groups (n= 10 rats/group). The experimental group was touched in a manner similar to massaging the rat's neck and back twice a day for one week. The two groups received two intramuscular injections. The 22kHz and 50kHz UV and the RGS scores were measured before and after each intramuscular injection. Results: The 22kHz UV and RGS score were significantly higher in the control group than in the experimental group when the first intramuscular injection was administered; whereas, no difference between the experimental and the control groups were observed when the second intramuscular injection was administered. There was no statistical difference in the 50kHz UV between the two groups when the first and second injections were administered. Conclusion: This study found that touching was an effective intervention method to reduce negative emotions and pain in rats receiving their first intramuscular injection.
This study was performed to produce Hanwoo-fetal fibroblast cell clone transferred to Holstein recipient. It was coming on the parturition but didn't show parturition signs until 272 days from the embryo transfer. For the induction of normal parturition, dexamethasone (20 mg) were injected with IM on 272 day and PG $F_{2a}$ (25 mg) plus estradiol (20 mg) was injected with IM after 24hrs. Forty-eight hours after dexamethasone injection, we could find parturition signs and delivered healthy male of offspring (40 kg) about 50 hrs after it's injection. However the recipient was showed retention of afterbirth.h.
In vivo effects of leucine on skeletal muscle protein synthesis in fed and I-day food deprived young rats were examined. Animals assigned to leucine group were given a single i.p. injection of 80 or 160flmoles of leucine while control group animals were saline sham injected. The rate of protein synthesis was measured by the amount of $^{14}\textrm{C} incorporated into muscle protein after a single injection of $^{14}\textrm{C}-tyrosine, IO$\mu$ Ci/l00g B.W. Examined muscles were two different types of hind limb muscles. the oxidative solues and the glycolytic EDL and plantaris. Administered leucine elevated the concentration of free leucine in soleus muscles by 4-6.8 times the normal level. A massive dose of leucine, 160 flmoles, stimulated protein synthesis in the EDL and plantaris by 24 %, 29 % respectively of straved rats. The soleus of I-day food deprived rats and both types of muscles in fed rats did not respond to the injected leucine. The synthesis rate of the EDL and plantaris was supressed to one-half of the normal while the soleus that was not stimulated by leucine maintained a relatively normal rate, 78 %, of protein synthesis after I-day of food deprivation. Thus, in vivo stimulatory effect of leucine appears to be not a general phenomenon but to be related to the degree of catabolic condition developed by stress such as food deprivation. Although anabolic effects of leucine observed in this study was limited, any applicability of this special property of leucine to human subjects for the purpose of protein sparing in skeletal muscles remains to be examined.

Myogenesis is the formation process of multinucleated myofiber with a contractile capacity from muscle satellite cell (MSCs) during life. This process is tightly controlled by several transcription factors such as Pax3 and Pax7 (paired box protein 3 and 7), MEF2C (myocyte enhancer factor 2) and MRFs (myogenic regulatory factors) etc. On the contrary, myostatin (MSTN) is a transforming growth factor-${\beta}$ superfamily, which functions as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle development and growth. Carnosic acid (CA) is a major phenolic component in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and have been reported various biological activities such as anticancer, antioxidant, antimicrobial and therapeutic agents for amnesia, dementia, alzheimer's disease. This study was confirmed to effects of CA on muscle cell line and muscle tissue alteration of zebrafish by intramuscular injection or feeding methods. $10{\mu}M$ CA showed a non-cytotoxic on myoblast and a complete inhibition effect against myostatin activity on luciferase assay. In intramuscular injection experiment, the total protein and triglyceride amount of $10{\mu}M/kg$ of CA injected group increased by 11% and decreased by 13% compared to these of the no injected group. In histology analysis of muscle tissues by hematoxylin/eosin staining, the number of muscle fiber of $10{\mu}M/kg$ of CA injected group decreased by 29% and fiber area increased 40% compared to these of no injected group. In feeding experiment, the total protein and triglyceride amount no significance difference compared to these of the normal feeding group. In histology analysis, the number of muscle fiber of 1% CA fed group decreased by 35% and fiber area increased 56% compared to these of normal fed group. We identified that CA have an effect on hypertrophy of muscle fiber in adult zebrafish and the results of this study are considered as the basic data that can reveal the mechanisms of muscle formation via gene and protein level analysis.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of botulinum toxin type A on masseter muscle atrophy and the extent of masseter muscle affected from the injection site in relation to injection dose, with and without occlusal splint therapy through computed tomographic measurement. 32 volunteers were divided into four groups - group 25U (injection dose of 25 unit), group 25Us (injection dose of 25 unit with occlusal splint), group 35U (injection dose of 35 unit), group 35Us (injection dose of 35 unit with occlusal splint). Each group consisted of 8 people. 3 positions (position 1, 2, 3 - 10mm, 20mm and 40mm from the inferior border of the mandible, respectively) were selected for the evaluation of the masseter muscle change. The following results were obtained. 1. The thickness and the cross-sectional area of the masseter muscle had reduced in all groups except for the right side thickness at position 3 of group 25U and group 25Us, and the right side thickness as well as the left side cross-sectional area at position 3 of group 35Us. In group 35Us, the thickness and the cross-sectional area of the masseter muscle had reduced significantly in all positions (P < 0.05). 2. There was no significant difference in the masseter muscle change between the injection dose of 25unit and that of 35unit. 3. The groups with occlusal splint showed greater reduction of the masseter muscle thickness than the other groups (P < 0.05). From the above results, botulinum toxin type A injection together with occlusal splint therapy in the treatment of masseter muscle hypertrophy would be clinically effective.
Two trials were conducted in a commercial dairy on heifer synchronization with PGF$_2$$\alpha$. Animals showing estrous following the first injection were bred and animals not showing estrus were given the second injection 10 days later. In the first trial, the injection routes were rump and rump. In the second trial, the injection routes were rump and shoulder. Estrous detection were performed from 24 h after injection. Animals were bred by the same technician. In the first trial, the response rate for the first injection was 51.4% and the subsequent pregnancy rate of these animals was 60.0%. The response rate in the second injection was 57.1% and the pregnancy rate was 50.0%. In the second trial, the response rate in the first injection on the rump was 48.7% and the subsequent pregnancy rate was 70.6%. The second injection was given on the shoulder and the response rate was 60.0% and the subsequent pregnancy rate was 25.0%. The data suggest that the route of PGF$_2$$\alpha$ administration was critical to achieve success in estrous synchronization and pregnancy rates.
