  • The 40-hour work week system has brought positive impact on shortening working hours, eliminating long-time work, increasing leisure-time with family, etc. And this has brought about an increase in leisure-life satisfaction and happiness level. The type of leisure activities has changed from passive activities such as rest to active activities such as sports, tourism. And the 40-hour work week system has positive impact on social activities such as participation in volunteer work and, club activities. Thus all efforts need to be made to establish 40-hour work week system as soon as possible in all workplace. Firstly, 40-hour work week system needs to be introduced to every workplace with less than 5 persons, enlarge 5-day school week system into every primary and secondary school, and create conditions for positive leisure activities. Secondly, labor standards supervision and administration needs to be strengthened to eliminate long-time work over 52 hours per week, below-minimum wage work.

Five hundred and seventy-seven study subjects were selected from 20-year-old wage workers who had more than one year of work experience at the time of the survey and had worked more than 40 hours a week. The analysis used SPSS 23.0 WIN, including a t-test, one-way ANOVA by Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation oefficients, and Hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Regarding the general characteristics of the subjects, there was a difference in life satisfaction according to age, educational level, industrial type, and subjective health status. The higher the work-life balance and work satisfaction of the shift service worker, the higher the life satisfaction. In addition, social support had a moderating effect on the relationship between work-life balance and work satisfaction of shift service workers. • This study analyzed 2019 time survey data from the National Statistical Office to examine the childcare behaviors of fathers with preschool children and their determinants, considering types of care and working/nonworking days. The main results of this study are as follows. First, paternal childcare time of nonworking days was three times more than that of working days, and the participation rate was also higher on nonworking days. Second, there was no significant difference in the amount of time spent on primary care and developmental care by fathers, whether from dual- or single-income families. Third, it seems that fathers adjust their participation in childcare between working days and nonworking days in consideration of the mother's time availability. Fourth, the variables related to childcare needs had a significant influence on paternal childcare time on both working and nonworking days. Fathers' developmental care time was not explained by the independent variables entered into the regression analysis. As a result of the study, it is necessary to reduce fathers' working hours and increase family-friendly systems to increase fathers' participation in childrearing. Fathers' perception of parental responsibility must also be changed.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic catalyzed major changes in our work environment, underscoring the critical role of workplace flexibility. While a wealth of research exists on specific flexible work strategies and schedules, a broader understanding of workplace flexibility has been somewhat overlooked. This study aimed to bridge this gap by examining the correlation between workplace flexibility and organizational commitment. Our sample consisted of 300 employees from foreign businesses in the ICT(information and communications technology) service sector and the manufacturing industry, along with those from the top 50 leading Korean enterprises. We bifurcated workplace flexibility into two distinct categories for this study: quantitative and qualitative. Our results revealed that within the quantitative category, the flexibility of continuity of work and flexible place significantly enhanced organizational commitment. Interestingly, the flexibility of work schedules didn't have a marked impact on commitment levels. On the qualitative side, job autonomy and teamwork emerged as significant drivers of organizational commitment. It's worth noting that qualitative aspects of workplace flexibility had a more pronounced effect on organizational commitment than the quantitative elements. These findings highlight the necessity of approaching workplace flexibility from a comprehensive perspective, embracing both its quantitative and qualitative dimensions. For businesses aiming to maximize the benefits of flexibility, it's essential to cultivate a culture of open communication, champion collaboration, and prioritize job autonomy and teamwork. Establishing a work environment that actively supports feedback-oriented communication stands as a key component in this endeavor.
