This paper has focused on comprehending the interior designs and characteristics of modern department stores in Korea by looking into the birth and changes of those built under the Japanese Forced Occupation Period. The first modem department stores including Mitsukoshi, Georgia and Hwashin Department Stores began to appear in Korea under the Japanese Colonial Rule. They considered a variety of architectural elements like construction planning, shop arrangement, path of customer movement and interior design. The interior of modem department stores aimed to pursue the so-called modernization movement, but failed to fully contain the unique characteristics of the times in that particular period. Modem department stores took on new western styles prevailed in Korea and were characterized by the eclecticism in which various architectural forms exist together. In other words, their interiors implied a sign of the times in the confusing and corrupt world then. Especially those modern department stores were designed, repaired and extended by foreign designers who were ignorant of the history of Korean architecture. What is worse, their further remodelling practices made big mistakes by considering only functional and economical aspects and giving a back seat to the architectural and historical value of existing modern department stores. Therefore, we should make more efforts to study and conserve the fundamentals of modem architectures like modem department stores in order to have better understanding of the aesthetic value of indoor space and facilitating smooth communication between past and present.

Modern architecture is very Important part of korean architecture history. Because It's a role in terms of connecting traditional and current architecture and introduction of western architecture. Accordingly, At this meaninglessly going out and leaving of modern architecture, the purpose of this study is systematic researching of the modern Government Office interior. This study to research into the period context at construction of the modern Government Office and tendency of architecture and interior at that time. And understand interior space organization of it. The modern Government Office adopted Neo-Baroque style from tendency of that time. Also, showed composite order which is mixed In the Creek temple, the Renaissance and the classic style representing the power. But, after late 1920 It adopted Modern Style. This characteristic is different from current composit order, which is comprehended by our. In order to understand aesthetic value of current straight interior space, It have to be Interacted the present and past. But It's averted because it was made In the period of Japanese imperialism. Therefore, We should explore history of interior design that is endowed with sociality and historicity between modern and future interior space as well as current.

This study is arranged the principles of the preservation and restoration in pre-modern architecture, presented guideline of the interior restoration in there, and attempted relative-analysis by cases of Japan in wall and ceiling. The method of Original-restorations and Repairs must be preserved in materials and technologies in order to hand over the future generations. The process and method of restorations are the important Cultural Properties as Architecture's itself.

본 연구는 디자인 제작 및 평가과정에 언어(기호체계)적인 접근이 요청됨을 증명하고자 하는 여러 노력중의 하나로서, 특히 ‘환유’개념을 디자인에 도입할 것에 대한 제안이라 할 수 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 먼저 1)디자인에 있어 시각언어라는 용어설정이 가지는 의의를 밝힌다. 다음으로 2)후기구조주의 사유방식 안에서 새롭게 거론되는 ‘환유’개념의 존재방식 및 탈 근대주의라는 시대적 요청에 부응하는 본 개념의 긍정적 의미를 설명한다. 이는 ‘환유’라는 개념이 탈 근대주의 시대의 문화사적 특성을 충실하게 구현하는 것으로서, 한마디로 ‘환유’를 통해서 모더니즘시대가 신봉했던 보편성 지향주의가 스쳐지나갔던 특수성, 개별성에 대한 관심이 표현될 수 있기 때문이다. 마지막으로 이러한 이론적 고찰을 토대로 3)‘환유’개념이 탈 근대주의 디자인에 도입되었을 때의 의의를 사례분석을 통해 드러내고자 하였다.

형이공방(Keiji Kobo)은 독일 바우하우스의 교육활동이 그 정점에 있던 1928년에 결성되어 전쟁의 기운이 짙어져서 더 이상 활동을 할 수 없었던 제2차 대전 직전까지의 약 10년 간 미래를 내다보는 혜안으로 건축의 새로운 사조를 표방하는 근대디자인을 목표로 하여 여러 가지 활동을 한 희귀한 자생적 디자인 연구단체로써, 일본이 서구 디자인 사조를 흡수하여 현대 디자인의 장을 화려하게 펼치는 데 상당한 영향을 끼친 상징적 단체이다. 형이공방에서는 산업시대를 전제로 한 새 시대의 생활공예-합리적인 생활가구-를 추구함으로써 근대적 사고를 실천하기 위하여 활발한 활동을 전개하였다. 이 공방의 작업은 조사 시작(試作) 실험 연구 전시회 강습회 주문판매 광고 집필이라는 많은 영역에 걸쳐있다. 그 활동은 결코 상업적인 목적으로 변질되지 않은 진지한 것이었으며, 군국주의 일본이라는 당시의 특수한 시대적 배경에 비추어 보더라도 놀랍도록 기능주의 사고를 견지한 순수하고 투명한 이념을 가지고 있었다. 이 공방은 어슬프고 규모가 적은, 10년 남짓 활동했던 연구집단이었다. 그러나 조용했던 그 활동 속에는 불같은 의지가 숨어 있었으며, 오늘의 기준에서 보더라도 그 파급효과를 과소평가 할 수 없음을 알게 되었다. 일본의 오늘과 같은 발전의 이면에는 무수한 선각자의 기여가 있었을 터인즉, 형이공방의 그것도 디자인분야에 관한 한 빠트릴 수 없는 것 중 하나이다. 미루어 짐작컨대, 당시의 일본 지식인들은 그들의 헌신과 활동이 대중의 삶의 질을 근대화시키는 데 하나의 기여가 되기를 하나같이 열망하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 형이공방은 어떤 의미에서 일본에서의 꽃피다 만 작은 바우하우스라고 평가할 만하다.

In modern period, the houses are the most outstanding works by architects in which they develop their architectural identical theory and new color design concept has been established with the appearance of modern new art. This study is to summarize and analysis the characteristics of color design in 9 outstanding modern houses according to the historic artistic period, from 'arts and craft movement' to modernism. The result will re-analyze theory on the history of modern houses and support the identity of the modern houses. The research method is based on book review and in detail, the analysis on color design were proceeded by comparison with color picture of interior space of the houses.

As a short lived group, ABC had an important effect on the design of Modern architecture. Because it played an important role in the foundation of CIAM, and affected the style of Internationalism and Neue Sachlichkeit in Modern architecture. ABC group was the result of Elementarism and Constructivist International. And El Lissitzky was a central figure in the birth of ABC group as a Constructivist. ABC's design resembled the design of ASNOVA, but it modified it as a more real and functional design. This study amins at the analysis of the effects of ABC group on the design of Modern architecture.
