  • In this paper, I suggest a discourse on some delicate relations between the philosophy and the cinema, or between the visualizing philosophical reflection and the contemplating cinematic imagination. In this context, G. Deleuze is not a simple philosopher and Director Hong, not a director. Each is a kind of metonymy. Deleuzean style of philosophizing asks for Hong's nomadic style of producing cinema. and of course in the same manner, the latter asks for the former. The latter visualizes the speculative empiricism of the former, the former crystalizes the visual esthetics of the latter. To speak with Deleuzean vocabularies, it is not possible for the State Apparatus to capture the diverse works of director Hong. Because each of them is a kind of War Machine which always slips from every tackle of State Apparatus. Deleuzean key word 'genetic becomming' is a main concept of Hong's works. The point is not to dispose the theses 'becomming' of his works in the line of series but to release them in the line of rupture. My paper would show the sharp ridicules director Hong had poured on the conservative circle of the cinema in the context of Deleuzean nomadology.

  • In recent years, movie content consumption has increased not only in theaters but also through online channels. As movie channels become more diverse, there is a growing interest in movie channel selection process, and the movie channel selection can vary depending on the characteristics of consumers. Therefore, in this study, we examined the effect of consumer personality(neurogenic, conscientiousness, openness, agreeableness) on channel selection factors(primary and secondary factors of the theater, primary and secondary factors of online channel) and channel attitudes(attitudes towards theaters, IPTV, cable TV, OTT). The results of this study shows that consumer personality has significant impact on consumers' movie channel selection process and findings provide strategic directions for companies offering online and offline service for movie consumption.

  • With technological development including digitization, movie demand and supply in digital online movie market are increasing. This study aims to explore demand concentration of the digital online movie market, which is characterized by product variety compared to cinemas. Major findings of the empirical analysis on the TV VOD data during the recent seven years(2013 ~ 2019) are as follows. First, the analysis on 1,137 titles reveals that movie demand of theatrical market is more concentrated than that of TV VOD. Second, absolute long tail index of TV VOD, measured by the download number of indie & artistic movies(niche product), is increasing as more such movies are released in the market. However, both relative long tail index, measured by the share of indie & artistic movie demand, and top-ranked movies' share do not show consistent increase or decrease trend. Third, regression analysis exhibits that the relationship between demand concentration and market size is insignificant for TV VOD market. This study might have usefulness in that it provides empirical evidence for the nature of the Korean digital online movie market.

  • The stage is ceremonial and legendary space unlike the ordinary world. Performance is not simply scrip-staged, but spatial art based on tempo that transmits extreme condition. The stage art is a visual art combined with stage settings, lighting, customs and the like. I exemplify the stage of Middle Age and Renaissance in the history of the art of public performance and so I review that what meditative functions each stage perform and that as what pattern of media it can be conceptualized. In this thesis, I divide the places of public performance Into the spaces of proscenium and polygon and also set up the concepts of hot and cool that McLuhan presents for each space. So, the degree of participation could be different according to the distinction of quantity of information, which is communication following the patterns of spaces. The basis of public performance might be the communication between co-actors and audiences. Since the sense of the art of public performance is the art in the process of establishing the meaning based on the communication with co-actors, it is not a confirmed and fixed one, but rather a reflexive one that can be created and changed continuously. Therefore, audiences should be regarded as the subjects, who are making the art of public performance with co-actors.

  • This study examines the modern succession, transformation and significance of enjoyment methods of classical literature (art) with a focus on the characteristics of those methods that appeared when the performances of the traditional era began to be displayed on the stage of the theaters in modern Seoul. The clues to the reasons for this type of enjoyment can be found in newspapers, magazine articles, and advertisements from the early 20th century. The emergence of stage theaters at the beginning of the modern era caused a sweeping change in the performance environment, including the fact that it was possible for all kinds of people to enjoy art beyond the existing socioeconomic hierarchies or barriers of status, that the performers were given employment through the theater, and that the audience had the tendency of the general public of an unspecified number because the audience was able to see the performances only by paying the viewing fee. The way of enjoying traditional performances also changed based on these new adaptations: the performances were sequential, show-oriented, and re-contextualized as public performances. It is significant that in the traditional era, performers and audiences had been segregated according to their status and a strict hierarchy; now, such cultural norms were breaking down in favor of a kind of equality. In addition, it was possible for the audience to experience sensory enjoyment, and theater brought about a new kind of popular consumer enjoyment of an artistic product. Of course, though, it is possible to look back and find problems related to the contemporary context, but the traditional performances, which were the main performances for the lower class, took the first place on the modern theater stage, and as a result, no one can deny that it became possible to move forward in the first phase of an era of public performance.
