Measuring and Characterizing the Apparent Thickness and its Irregularity of Fine Wire Bundle by Using a Laser Scanning Method (Laser Scanning을 이용한 극세선 집속체의 겉보기 굵기 측정과 불균제 특성)

  • The quality of bundles is closely related with the apparent thickness. Especially the variation of apparent thickness of bundle determines the qualify of the plane structure made or the bundle such as surface evenness, pore size, and the shape of air-gap, etc.,. This study is dealing with the development of a new measuring system of the thickness of bundle or cross-section by determining the size of the shadow of the object covered by a laser slit beam. Also the measured signal is characterized in terms of the correlogram, the irregularity in wavelength. The correlogram for the irregularity of several sample types could be represented by a sinusoidal function with exponentially decaying amplitude. Moreover, influence of the measuring speed on the signal and the characteristic differences according to the different types of bundle are investigated.

  • The micro-extruding die is a die for manufacturing of fine-wire by extruding process. The fine-wire made from the micro-extruding can be effectively applied to fields of semiconductor parts and medical parts etc. It is predicted that the demand of fine-wire in industry is more and more increasing. In this study $\Phi$ 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ micro-drill which is coated with diamond is used for drilling of super micro-hole sues. For the machining of taper parts of entrance and exit, drill having $\Phi$ 9mm inclination angle 20$^{\circ}$ is used. This is useful for anti tool-breakage in drilling process. After micro-drilling, the polishing process by abrasive is carried out for increasing surface roughness.

  • Micro wires manufactured by the straightening process are used in the BT(Bio-Technology), IT(Information-Technology), NT(Nano-Technology). We have developed a novel wire straightener which uses the direct heating method(DHM) for straightening the micro wire and shearing device for burr-less cutting. In this study, we confirm the tendency of micro wire after the shearing process. It is impossible to remove the burr in the shearing process. However, the embodiment of minimum burr size after the shearing process is the best in-process method. In order to minimize the burr size, we have accomplished the various experiment condition such as the U-groove, the effect of the counter punch, the shear angle, clearance.

  • Fine metal (Au, Ag, Cu) wire was extruded with hydrostatic extrusion process in cold condition. A vertical type 900kN hydrostatic extruder has been developed. The extruder was facilitated with high pressure container which are available for hot and cold forming. The container endured 1400MPa internal pressure and extrusion ratio To was achieved in cold forming for Au fine wire which had $600{\mu}m$ diameter. In contrast to the conventional macroscopic-sized-billet fine-wire requires higher extrusion pressure and effect of friction is much more significant.

  • Punching tools like an electrodes are made by milling or etching or EDM. These methods had time consuming, low efficiency and air pollution. So, we have developed a shearing device which counter punching method for burrless cutting of micro wire. Using the straightened SUS304 wire with $200{\mu}m$ diameter, we confirmed the tendency of the shear plane for punch tools. It was impossible to completely remove the bun in the shearing process. In order to minimize the burr size and fine shear plane, we have accomplished the various experiment conditions such as the U-groove, the effect of the counter punch, shear angle and clearance. The results of the experiments show that indentation, slip plane and bent shape were related to the shear angle and clearance.

  • Hot hydrostatic extruder was developed. The main objective of the development is forming fine wire and tube. On account of effectiveness and high performance, the extruder was designed to have double action. Therefore the main cylinder and mandrel can be driven independently. To cope with severe condition of high temperature and pressure, wire-wound container equipped with heater was used. Sealing technique also is important in this process, so seal ring was made of super-elastic metal. Another key for successful forming is choice of proper pressure medium. Fine wire and tube produced by the extruder can be used in semiconductor industry and medicine.

  • As in most metal forming processes, die and lubrication are of vital importance in hydrostatic extrusion. An efficient die design and lubrication system selection reduce the pressure required for a given reduction ratio by lowering friction at the billet-die interface. In contrast to the conventional macroscopic extrusion, fine-wire fabrication requires higher extrusion pressure and effect of friction is much more significant. Forming fine Au, Ag, and Cu wire with hydrostatic extrusion process in cold condition, the effect of extrusion die angle, lubrication and billet's initial diameter was studied.

  • Ultrasonic machining technology has been developed over recent years for manufacturing the quality-assured precision parts fur several industrial application such as optics, semiconductors, aerospace and automobile application. Ultrasonic needle horning is widely used in cutting(drilling) of non-conductive, brittle workpiece materials. This paper intends to understanding of the basic mechanism of ultrasonic needle horning. And frequency analysis program is used to easily predict the natural frequency of ultrasonic vibration cutting tools.
