Infinite Dilution Activity Coefficients by Gab Chromatography for Variously Polarized Solute-Solvent Systems (극성이 상이한 용질-용매계에서 무한희석 활동도 계수의 가스크로마토그래피에 의한 측정)

  • The infinite dilution activity coefficients(${\gamma}{\infty}$) of nonpolar and polar solutes have been determined in different solvents at temperature between 60 and $100^{\circ}C$ by using gas chromatography. The $ln{\gamma}{\infty}$ values of nonpolar solutes(alkanes, cyclohexane, benzene, toluene and $CCl_4$) were linearly increased as 1/T in the nonpolar solvent (n-octadecane) and the polar solvent(n-hexadecyl alcohol) systems and the $ln{\gamma}{\infty}$ values at the constant temperature were increased with the number of carbon atoms of solute molecule. For the polar solutes(alcohols, esters and ketones) and the weak polar solvent(di-2-ethyl adiphate and di-2-ethylhexyl sebacate) systems, the relations of $ln{\gamma}{\infty}$ vs. 1/T were found to be curved with increased slope, and the $ln{\gamma}{\infty}$ values at constant temperature were linearly diminished as increasing the number of carbon atoms of solute molecule. For the polar solutes(alcohols, esters and ketones) and the strong polar solvents(triphenyl phosphate and tricresyl phosphate)systems, the relations of $ln{\gamma}{\infty}$ vs. 1/T were found to be curved with increased slope but $ln{\gamma}{\infty}$ values at constant temperature were linearly increased as increasing the number of carbon atoms of solute molecule.

Studies on the Oxidative Stabilities of Mackerel Lipids (고등어 지질의 산화안정성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to elucidate the oxidative stabilities of mackerel lipids, lipids were extracted from ordinary muscle, dark muscle, skin (including subcutaneous adipose tissue) and viscera, and then stored at $30^{\circ}C$. The changes of lipids were examined periodically by measuring peroxide value (POV), thiobarbituric acid (TBA), weighing method, acid value (AV) and iodine value (IV), Fatty acid composition of lipids was analyzed by GLC. The results obtained are summerized as follows: The velocity of lipid oxidation during the storage was differ from the extracting part of the sample. It was laster in skin, viscera, dark muscle and ordinary muscle in the order. Ratio of polar lipid fractions in total lipids was ranged from 5 to $15\%$, and the highest result was observed in dark muscle. Main fatty acids of the lipids were $C_{16:0}$ acid ($22.0{\sim}25.9\%$), $C_{18:1}$ acid ($22.3{\sim}26.7\%$) and $C_{22:6}$ acid ($9.6{\sim}13.4\%$), and $C_{22:6}$ acid content ($\%$) was the highest in lipid from dark muscle, and the lowest in lipid from skin. Monoenoic acid content ($\%$) was higher in the non-polar lipid than in the polar lipid, on the contrary. polyenoic acid content ($\%$) was higher in the polar lipid than in the non-polar lipid. Polyunsaturated fatty acids of the lipids, $C_{20:5}$ acid and $C_{22:6}$ acid, decreased predominantly with oxidation during storage, while saturated acids, $C_{14:0}$ acid and $C_{16:0}$ acid, increased predominantly. The polar lipid fractions were oxidized much faster than the non-polar lipid fractions.

On the Relation Between Cloud-to-Ground Lightning and Rainfall During 2006 and 2007 Summer Cases (2006-2007년 여름 사례로 본 구름-지면 낙뢰와 강우의 관계)

  • A relationship between cloud-to-ground lightning and rainfall was investigated by using the two-years (2006-2007) summer lightning data and the automatic weather stations (AWSs) data of the Korea Meteorological Administration. The negative lightning occurred at the core of highly concentrated convection, which is often accompanied with heavy rains. Whereas most positive lightning occurred at the anvil cloud with low density and light rains. The rainfall intensity is strongest when the negative and positive lightning occurred concurrently, and one with lightning is much stronger than that without lightning. A portion of the positive lightning of the total lightning was less than 10% during summer seasons, and the lightning without rains was about 34%. The rain rate was strongly correlated with the negative flash rate, and the correlation coefficients varied between 0.87 and 0.94 according to the co-location radius (5-15 km) of AWSs. Most of the lightning occurred 10 minutes before and/or concurrently occurred with rains. A portion of the convective rainfalls of the total rainfalls was at least 20% when we define the rainfalls with lightning as convective. The convective rainfall was greater during August than in June and July. In general, the portion of convective rainfalls showed a maximum diurnal variation during late afternoon as in the rains and lightning.

Solubilization and Photosensitizing Properties of Some Anthracene Derivatives in Aqueous Micellar Solutions (수용성 미셀용액에서 몇 가지 안트라센 유도체의 가용화 및 감광화 성질)

  • The chemical evidence for involvement of singlet oxygen during photoirradiation for 2-ethylanthracene [2-EA] and 9-phenylanthracene [9-PA] was based on the rapid decomposition of 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran [DPBF] in methanol-water mixture and aqueous CTAB, and SDS micellar solutions. The average microenvironmental polarities of 2-EA and 9-PA were estimated by UV spectroscopic characteristics sensitive to the polarity of solvent. When 2-EA and 9-PA were solubilized in aqueous CTAB, SDS and Brij 35 solutions, their average microenvironmental polarities were polar, and their microenvironmental polarity parameter showed little dependence on the ionic properties of the micelles. The average microenvironmental polarity of 2-EA was similar to the polarity of 40% (w/w) aqueous ethanol, and that of 9-PA was similar to the polarity between 30 and 40% (w/w) aqueous ethanol. It was found that the greater part of these species might be distributed at the surface of micelles when they were solubilized in aqueous micellar solutions. The methanol-water mixture solution appeared to have characteristics more favorable for photooxidation reaction than aqueous micellar solutions.

Plasma Potential of Atmospheric Plasma Double Jets (대기압 플라즈마 이중 제트의 플라즈마 전위)

  • The electric potential of plasma column is measured with the high voltage probe in a pair of atmospheric plasma jets operated by AC-voltage. According to the polarity of voltage applied to the electrodes, the polarity of plasma column potential has the same polarity of applied voltage. The high potential of plasma column at the side of high voltage electrode is decreased linearly along the plasma column to the ground side. Therefore, the plasma column seams to be a kind of resistor whose resistivity is a few 10s $M{\Omega}/m$. In the experiment of double-jets system, the polarity of plasma potential is verified to be the same polarity to the applied voltage. When the different voltage polarities are applied to the electrodes of double plasma jets, the attractive force is acted between two plumes at the merged plasma and the plasma potential is measured to be low as a few 10s V. When the same polarity of voltage is applied to the electrode, the repulsive force is acted and the plasma potential is measured to be high as a several 100s V at the merged plumes. In the exposure of plasma plume on the bio-substrate with the double plasma jets, the electric shock and thermal damage might be proportional to the plasma power which is the multiplication of the plasma potential and the plasma current.

Sorption Characteristics of Butanol/Water and Isopropanol/Water Solutions on the FASs Coated Inorganic Membrane (FASs로 코팅한 무기막에 대한 부탄올/물, 이소프로판올/물 용액의 수착 특성)

  • The sorption amounts of butanol/water and isopropanol/water solution on the surface modified with FASs (fluoroalkylsilanes) hydrophobic membrane were measured and analyzed using Hansen's solubility parameters. The difference of the solubility parameter of butanol (${\delta}_t=20.4$) and that of the surface modified with FASs hydrophobic membrane (${\delta}_t=16.9$) was greater than the case of isopropanol (${\delta}_t=24.6$), which might explain the result that the sorption amount of butanol was much higher than that of isopropanol. We might also explain the effect of the polar force (${\delta}_p$) on the sorption amount. The difference (${\Delta}$) between FASs polar force (${\delta}_p=4.6$) and butanol polar force (${\delta}_p=6.3$) was much smaller than that between FASs polar force (${\delta}_p=4.6$) and isopropanol polar force (${\delta}_p=9.0$), which meant that the interaction of butanol-FASs was much greater than that of isopropanol-FASs, and resulted in greater sorption amount of butanol on the FASs. This study showed Hansen's solubility parameters might be used for analysis of sorption characteristics of alcohol on membrane and solubility of solute in solvent.

Surface static properties in polymer hybrid material after plasma treatment (플라즈마 처리한 고분자 복합재료의 표면특성변화)

  • In this study, which was performed to identify a degradation mechanism in macromolecular insulating material, the contact angle, surface potential decay, surface resistance rate and XPS analysis were compared after exposure of fibre-glass-reinforced polymer laminate to plasma discharge. In the case of chemical changes arising from plasma treatment, carboxyl radicals were generated mainly in the plasma-treated surface, which was rapidly changed to a hydrophilic surface. In the corona potential decay study to determine the electrical changes, leading to a negative surface for the untreated specimen. However, in the case of the hydrophilic surface, a lot of carboxy radicals(-COO) acting as positive polarity were generated, resulting in a positive surface. Owing to such a positive surface, the charges of applied negative polarity were decreased rapidly.

  • Occurring fire or burning bushes beneath overhead power lines have caused system disturbances in many countries. In this study, various tests in the simulated condition of power lines were conducted so as to investigate the reduction in insulation strength caused by combustion flame. Characteristics of the ac and dc flashover voltages in the vertical needle-plane, sphere-plane and rod-plane electrode system were investigated when the combustion flames were present near the high-voltage electrode. As the results of an experimental investigation, It was found that the average reduction characteristics of flashover voltages with the sphere-plane system, in comparison with the no-flames case, were about 1/3 times when the ac voltages were applied.

  • Joining thin aluminum alloy is difficult using most welding techniques. Many of problems associated burn-through by the high heat input. Common welding techniques are TIG, MIG, and MIG-PULSE welding. The VP-GMAW provides more control of the heat balance in the welding arc by taking advantage of the different arc characteristics obtained with each of the two polarities. In this paper, we proposed new VP-GMAW method by control DSP 320C32, and the characteristic and experiment result-voltage, current, welding bead, penetration by this method are presented.
