In this paper, in order to utilize new and renewable energy a grid-connected parasol-type solar power generation system is presented. The proposed power system combining with commercial electric power system is designed to meet the need fur maximum power consumption and parasols for the people staying at beach during hot summer. Solar electric power can be charged in rechargeable batteries during day time and used to provide charged electric power to loads like lamps and fans during night time, A battery charge-discharge controller is required for the good performance of batteries to be charged. The presented battery controller is designed based on high performance microprocessor for precise charge-discharge operations. An alarm circuit to give notice of battery exchange time and other convenient functions are installed in the system. We implemented the proposed solar power generation system at East Sea beach during peak summer season to verify its productivity and performance by experiments.

Characteristic stereostructures of farnesyl protein transferase (FPTase) inhibition materials isolated from Artemisia sylvatica and regioselectivity of biogenic Diels-Alder reactions between dehydromatricarin molecules A and B were examined quantitatively. Results revealed that the major reaction of frontier molecular orbital (FMO) interaction proceeds through charge-control reaction between LUMO of A16, dienophile and HOMO of B1, diene, and the isolated 8-acetylarteminolide and artanomaloide were minor products. FPTase inhibition activity and hydrophobicity of 8-acetylarteminolide were $pI_{50}=3.75$ and logP=2.62, respectively. FPTase inhibition activity of 8-acetylarteminolide was higher than those of artanomaloide and dehydromatricarin.

This research aims the production of anti-tumor substances through in vitro culture of hairy roots transformed by Agrobacterium rhizogenes in Artemisia sylvatica MAX and the effect of culture conditions on optimum growth of hairy roots. We investigated the optimum medium, pH, carbon source, sucrose, light, Fe and polyamine conditions of various lines of hairy roots (NK3, NK4, YX. NK3-10) induced from Artemisia sylvatica to increase the optimum growth of hairy roots. MS medium was the best for optimum growth of hairy root clone, NK3-S10. The optimum culture period was 4 weeks for NK3-S10. The optimum sucrose concentration was 3.5%. The optimum concentration of FeSO$_4$, spermine and spermidine was 0.1 mM, 10 mM and 100 mM, respectively.

The temperature patterns in Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements were measured and comprehensively analyzed from the beginning of the concrete placement based on the temperature measurement technique developed using innovative and inexpensive temperature measurement sensors. The temperature measurements in PCC pavements were taken at several different locations forvarious slab thicknesses. The concrete temperature patterns in the vertical and longitudinal directions of the pavement were analyzed and the effects of the pavement surface reflectivity, shading, and covering on the concrete temperatures were evaluated. The results of this study showed that the significant differences in the maximum concrete temperatures on the placement day were observed according to the concrete placement time. Since the zero-stress temperature is a function of the maximum concrete temperature on the placement day, the placement time would be an important factor that affects the behavior and performance of concrete pavements. The surface conditions of the pavement, such as the surface color, shading, and covering also affected the temperature patterns in PCC pavements significantly.

우리 앞에 닥친 IMF 경제위기를 극복하기 위해서 온 국민이 창조적으로 연구개발하는 마음으로 생활을 과학화해서 절약할 것은 절약하고 수리할 것은 수리하고 만들 수 있는 것은 만들어 써야한다. 특히 과학기술자들이 투철한 프로의식아래 독창성을 발휘, 과학기술을 진흥시켜 독창적인 신제품을 많이 개발한다면 IMF그늘에서 벗어나는 시기를 크게 앞당길 수 있을 것이다.

산의 한쪽면 전체가 꼭대기부터 아래까지 시뻘겋게 깍이고 은행나무가 시원한 그늘을 드리웠던 그 자리에는 연립주택이 들어서 나무들이 내뿜는 향기대신 시멘트 냄새만 진동한다. 우리도 서양적 개발주의에 휩쓸려 나무와 숲에 대한 경건성을 상실해 버렸다. 숲을 인간의 본향으로 여겼던 동양적 감각을 회복하는 것이 시급하다.
