  • In this study, proposed is the methodology to determine the upper limit for stiffness of rail pad for the ballasted and concrete track in high-speed railway in the viewpoint of running safety, considering the dynamic characteristics of train and track and the operation environment. For the track irregularity, one of the most important input parameters for traintrack interaction analysis, the reference vertical track irregularity PSDs(power spectral densities) for the ballasted and concrete track in a wide range of frequencies were proposed based on those presented in France and Germany and that obtained from the measured data at Kyeong-Bu 1st phase high-speed railway line. Using these reference PSD models, the input data for the vertical track irregularity data were regenerated by random generation process, and then, the wheel load reduction rates according to the stiffness of the rail pads have been calculated by the train-track interaction analysis technique. Finally, by comparing the wheel load reduction rates calculated with the derailment criteria prescribed in the Korean standards for railway vehicle safety criteria, the upper limits for the stiffness of rail pad have been proposed.

  • Ballasted track has been widely used due to its flexibility. However, the plastic deformation of ballasted track causes the evolution of track geometrical errors, and hence it requires continuous maintenance; increase in number of trains, weight, and speed expedites maintenance frequency and cost as well. Ballast stiffness is well-known as an indicator of design and maintenance. In this regard, this paper aims to suggest the method to measure ballast track stiffness using light-weight deflectometer (LWD) and thus verify its applicability as a maintenance measure. Preliminary field tests determined simple field testing protocol to measure track stiffness. The apparent ballast stiffness by LWD shows good corelation with TQI (Track Quality Index) and maintenance length. That is, as average of apparent stiffness increase, TQI and tamping length decrease exponentially. Therefore, apparent stiffness can be used as an index for ballast condition assessment.

  • A cubesat classified as a pico-satellite typically uses commercial-grade components that satisfy the vibration and thermal environmental specifications and goes into mission orbit even after undergoing minimum environment tests due to their lower cost and short development period. However, its reliability exposed to the physical environment such as on-orbit thermal vacuum for long periods cannot be assured under minimum tests criterion. In this paper, we have analysed the reliability and life prediction of the failure mechanisms of the cubesat mission board during its service life under the launch and on-orbit environment by using the sherlock software which has been widely used in automobile fields to predict the reliability of electronic devices.

  • Geostationary Ocean Color Imager 2 (GOCI-II) on Geo-KOMPSAT-2 (GK2B)satellite was developed as a mission successor of GOCI on COMS which had been operated for around 10 years since launch in 2010 to observe and monitor ocean color around Korean peninsula. GOCI-II on GK2B was successfully launched in February of 2020 to continue for detection, monitoring, quantification, and prediction of short/long term changes of coastal ocean environment for marine science research and application purpose. GOCI-II had already finished IAC and IOT including early in-orbit calibration and had been handed over to NOSC (National Ocean Satellite Center) in KHOA (Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency). Radiometric calibration was periodically conducted using on-board solar calibration system in GOCI-II. The final calibrated gain and offset were applied and validated during IOT. And three video parameter sets for one day and 12 video parameter sets for a year was selected and transferred to NOSC for normal operation. Star measurement-based INR (Image Navigation and Registration) navigation filtering and landmark measurement-based image geometric correction were applied to meet the all INR requirements. The GOCI2 INR software was validated through INR IOT. In this paper, status and results of IOT, radiometric calibration and INR of GOCI-II are analysed and described.

  • In order to promptly respond to disasters, the era of new spaces has opened where satellite images with various characteristics can be used. As the number of satellites in operation at home and abroad increases and the characteristics of satellite sensors vary, it is necessary to find satellite images optimized for disaster types. Disaster types were divided into typhoons, heavy rains, droughts, forest fires, etc., and the optimal satellite images were selected for each type of disaster considering satellite orbits, active/passive sensors, spatial resolution, wavelength bands, and revisit cycles. Each satellite orbit TLE (Two Line Element) information was applied to the SGP4 (Simplified General Perturbations version 4) model to develop a satellite orbit simulation algorithm. The developed algorithm simulated the satellite orbit at 10-second intervals and selected an accurate observation area by considering the angle of incidence of each sensor. The satellite orbit simulation algorithm was applied to the case of Typhoon Mitag in 2019 and compared with the actual satellite list. Through the analyzed results, the time and area of the captured image and the image to be recorded were analyzed within a few seconds to select the optimal satellite image according to the type of disaster. In the future, it is intended to serve as a basis for building a system that can promptly request and secure satellite images in the event of a disaster.

  • Recently, with the success of the world's first On-Orbit service (OOS) mission MEV (Mission Extension Vehicle)-1 in 2020, interest in OOS is increasing at home and abroad. In particular, the mission of OOS and active debris removal (ADR) service, which was difficult to find in the old space era in the past, is expected to enter the new space industry in the near future. Therefore, this paper examines the development cases of domestic and foreign OOS technologies, and describes the characteristics of major technologies required, domestic status and development potential, and the possibility of future OOS mission development. The technology trends and future prospects of OOS described in this paper are expected to be useful reference materials for further researching related fields in domestic situations where related research is insufficient.

  • Space environment has various hazard effects on satellite. These effects can not be experienced in earth ambient condition. In terrestrial space, plasma or atomic oxygen could erode satellite surface. Also ultra violet or particle radiation may damage surface materials or electronic parts which constitute satellite. So, in designing satellite, the natural environment of operational orbit should be investigated and appropriate mitigation should be prepared.

  • Propulsion subsystem transfers KOMPSAT into mission orbit and controls its attitude. Design factor consists of structure safety, electrical circuit design, consumable power estimation of thermal hardwares, damping device design of fuel transient pressure, and system configuration design by considering plume effect from thruster firing. System level analysis should be performed for verification of system design under launch vehicle and orbital environment. Electrical functional test of thermal control hardware, proof pressure test, cleanliness verification test, and internal/external leakage test of fuel feeding system should be carried out for performance estimation of propulsion system. Design and assembly process of propulsion subsystem was depicted and reliability of system was verified by test analysis in this paper.

  • For Improving gradually inferior environment of public transportation system, it is necessary to introduce new transit System(NTS). NTS is defined as automated economicm system for it's operation . The Track Guided Bus System (TGBS) is one of the NTS, which is possible operating on the track or road surface and the system has actually many advantages. This study was concentrated on investigating the characteristics of TGBS, comparing to the other public transportation system and appraising the advantages of it on the benefit of the passenger side as well as investor, and then suggested applicable routes. As the result of the study, it is concluded that the advantage of this system is less transfering and initial low investment. Applicable route is the demand of passengers in the range of PPHPD 5,000~39,600, which is more than bus but not more than subway.
