The factors influencing the design of curriculum of military studies are analyzed, such as the curricular of the military institutes that confer the B.S. in military studies, the domain of military studies and research areas, documentation classification of military studies and military engineering, scientific knowledge versus vocational capabilities in university education, relations between the B.S. courses and the master or doctorate courses, requirements asked by the Army, and moral education needed for the military officers. As a result of the analysis, the mandatory core courses should be total of 19, including 5 general courses and 14 major courses.

  • After the bombing of the Cheonan Vessel 2 years ago, military conflicts such as a missile launch became a serious issue. In fact, since especially military training has physical limitations, a research for military simulation education using CBT is needed. Using CBT in military-specialized schools, this paper looks into and analyzes the effects after teaching the functions for repairing artilleries and rifles through online simulation. In addition, the learning effects between the learning group using CBT for training artillery engineers and non-CBT learning group are analyzed.

  • The re-locatable military facilities are significant in combat zones with limited infrastructures. Military tents are particularly one of the most essential components in the battlefields, During the offensive operation. This study assesses educational effectiveness of the 4D Building Information Modeling (BIM), which is used to deliver educational information with considering re-locatable military facility construction. Furthermore, the real time for constructing temporary concentration camp was measured, By using analysis of variance associated with the educational effects of the 4D BIM. Statistically, understandability of facility construction using 4D BIM was found to be higher than the conventional educational materials with field manual.

The military art applied on korean pennisula from the period of ancient three countries(Koguryeo, Shilla, Paekche) has been developed maintaining consistent stream reflecting topographic features. Despite the close relationship between building of military art and military geography's elements, the study for korean military geography has been depressed and the discourses of literature has been insufficient. But, in the western study of military geography, the study vitalization efforts studying military peace keeping and humanitarism activity are ongoing. Based on the current trend of western study and the analysis of existing korean study, this treatise proposes three plans to improve the study and education of korean military geography. The key contents of plans are comprised with the improvement of education curriculum, the construction of council between relevant organism, and the installation of subdivision in relevant geographical society. The possibility shaping up the identity of korean military geography as a common literature can be increased by enhancing the study toward peace and humanitarism and specifying the method for development as noted on this study.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate smoking patterns, oral health behavior and perception of dental healthcare of military personnel in the South Korea Army. All 367 subjects were surveyed by the structured questionnaires with convenience sampling method. The questionnaires were consisting of 22 items. Depending on the conditions of military training, the distribution and differences of smoking patterns and oral behaviors were evaluated by frequency test, Weighted Kappa, Paired t-test and ANOVA. The differences of oral health perception on smoking were demonstrated by Mantel-Haenszel Chi-square test. In addition, Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) was used to estimate the effects of oral behavior for the conditions of military training and smoking. The number of cigarette during military training period was similar to that during non-military training (p=0.109). The perception of smokers such as smoking effect on oral health, oral health and systemic health, and need of education for smoking cessation was significantly lower than non-smokers (p=0.0095, p=0.0007, and p<0.0001). The probability that toothbrush frequency per day was only one was associated with higher during military training period than non-military training (OR=9.29, 95% CI 5.05-17.07). Moreover, the probability that hours of toothbrush were less than one minute was associated with higher during military training than non-military training (OR=2.19, 95% CI 1.78-2.71). To improve knowledge, attitude, and behavior of oral health for the members, the army needs to develop oral health education and tobacco cessation programs. In particular, motivation and practice for oral health care are required to improve poor oral health behavior during the military training.

  • In 2004 Daejeon University established a department of military studies by an agreement with the Korea Army. And more than three universities brought up the rear. This means that military studies is authorized as one of university majors by the Higher Education Act. The department enables students not only to graduate with a degree of Military Studies but also to receive officer’s commission in the Korea Army. All students incur seven-year military services by receiving four-year scholarships from the Army. The graduates start out as Second Lieutenants and become eligible for promotion. This article deals with (i) how the major came to be offered; (ii) details of the curricula of some universities; (iii) two perspectives on the curriculum of Military Studies (One is education for a good man, the other for a good warrior); finally (iv) the issues under debate as Military Studies is authorized as a science, and the problems awaiting solution.
