Since the mid-nineties, Republic of Korean Army has officially adapted information technology. Starting with the Chang-Jo 21('99) training M&S Model, around seventy types of the M&S system software, including Ground Operations & Resources Requirement Analysis Model ('10), developed by Republic of Korea Army or foreign counterparts have been utilized. However, as the existing cost estimations of the Defense M&S system software fail to reflect the acquisition and development environment, the estimated costs have been frequently overestimated or underestimated. This paper provides a suitable cost estimation model for the Defense M&S system software by presenting the software cost drivers which reflect the unique software development environment of the Defense.

The defense M&S system, which has been classified as a weapon system between requirements determination and project implementation, is being developed by applying the weapon system development procedure of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. The M&S system abstracts and models the real world to suit the intended use and proceeds with the process of developing it as a software-oriented system. Overseas, the conceptual model development stage is staged before entering the design stage after the requirements analysis. In addition, each step includes verification and validation processes. In Korea, while establishing and applying the weapon system development procedure based on the SE process, the M&S system is also applied in the same way as the general weapon system, limiting appropriate development outputs and verification and validation. In this study, the system development procedure of the M&S system is established and presented based on the relevant standards and SE process of developed countries.

As computer industry has been rapidly developed since 1980's, it has been highly increasing to use M&S. The use of M&S can reduce development cost, time to market, and so on, and using it we can get the results of experiments which are impossible to test in real environments. But there is an important precondition on the dependability of M&S which is being developed or used. In this paper, We introduce the Key concepts of VV&A, and so forth, and We finally present the DM&S VV&A application and promotion method.

The SBA Integrated Information system is constructed and operated for scientific and systematic management of Defense information utilizing whole process of weapon system acquisition from requirement institution to operation maintenance. In order to utilize m&s resources actively and effectively in the life cycle of weapon system acquisition, efficient management plans of the SBA integrated Information system is required. As a result of identifying usage on SBA Information system and performance of operation performance measurement, it was defined that establishment of the SBA Integrated Information system process and provision of detailed system are mandatory for activating m&s resource and supporting process of acquisitions. In this study, Defense m&s information system is analyzed and improvement plans of SBA Integrated Information system is provided for efficient operation of SBA integrated Information system.

Immediate and serious attention on CGF(computer generated forces) behavior modeling for defense M&S (modeling & simulation) is required in response to the reduction in the number of troops and development of 4^th industrial technologies. It is crucial for both military person and engineer to understand such technologies. The research aims to provide guidelines for establishment of research direction on CGF behavior modeling. We investigate traditional and/or novel methodologies such as rule-based, agent-based, and learning-based method. Discussions on future direction of applicable area and strategies are followed. We expect that the research plays a key role for understanding CGF behavior modeling.

We research and develop a SW-based virtual testing product that can be commonly used in the design/development of non-communication EW systems before the production of physical test products. Through this study, we have developed M&S technology to improve the accuracy of EW weapon system analysis/design and to verify and predict the performance of EW equipment, and to develop proven engineering module models and model base systems. It proposes a technology to build an EW M&S framework that can flexibly link/integrate various engineering/engage-level EW heterogeneous M&S systems.

국방 M&S에서 사용되는 지형데이터는 각 시뮬레이션의 개발 환경과 개발 요구사항에 따라 서로 다른 형태로 분산저장 되어 각 모델을 통합 하거나, 새로운 모델의 개발 시 많은 시간과 예산을 필요로 하게 된다. 이에 따라 국방부에서는 국방M&S분야의 각종 자료를 표준화 하려는 사업이 진행중이며, 특히 지형 데이터 분야는 모든 M&S모델이 공통적으로 필요로 하는 데이터로서 표준화의 필요성이 매우 높은 분야이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 지형 데이터를 표준형식으로 저장하고, 네트워크를 통하여 공유할 수 있는 시스템의 구축을 위하여, 환경자료 표현의 국제표준으로 제시된 SEDRIS 기술을 적용 할 것을 제안하고자 한다. SEDRIS는 DRM, EDCS, SRM의 모델을 통하여 합성환경의 다양한 요소를 표현할 수 있으며, API와 STF를 통하여 다른 체계와 자료를 교환 할수 있도록 한 국제 표준화 활동이며, 제정되고 있는 국제표준규격의 이름이다. 또한 SEDRIS는 다양한 환경요소를 표현할 수 있으며 데이터 변환이 빠르고 손실이 적기 때문에 국방 M&S의 지형 data구축 시 발생하는 각 군의 다양한 요구사항을 유연하게 수용할 수 있는 장점이 있다.

한국군은 무기체계획득의 비용, 성능, 일정에 대한 불확실성을 경감하기 위해 모델링 및 시뮬레이션(M&S) 기술과 정보기술을 활용하여, 새로운 전투개념 개발과 무기체계능력을 사전에 검증하고자하는 모의실험기반획득(Simulation Based Acquisition, SBA)을 적극 추진하고 있다. 이를 위해서는 M&S 소프트웨어, 데이터, 문서 등의 M&S 자원(콘텐츠) 확보가 무엇보다 시급하다. 본 논문에서는 2010년 국방 31개 기관을 대상으로 수행한 M&S 자원 보유현황 조사결과를 분석하여 M&S 자원 확보 방향을 제시하였다.

The Korean military has developed and operated computer, network, communication technologies as well as war game models to strengthen the national defense M&S continuously. In particular, lots of projects for developing models for drill/training, analyses, and acquired fields are being conducted in the military. However, it needs to look into the actual conditions and seek for strategies to develop the national defense M&S. First of all, in the field of war games, various national defense architectures have been built, including war and information environment architectures starting from the resource architecture in 2006. However, the function of drill and training is limited, so additional war game architectures are required to be built. To build joint war game architectures available as an effective verification tool to implement plans of the national defense and war architectures, this study examines the actual conditions of the current war game systems and suggested building joint war game architectures.
