  • The strategic UAV for theater level ISR(Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) mission typically has numerous ground targets over area of responsibility(AOR) or area of operation(AO). It is necessary to automatically incorporate these multitude of ground targets into mission planning process in order to collect ISR images before actual flight mission. In addition, weather information such as wind direction and/or velocity may have significant impacts on the qualities of collected sensor images, especially in SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. Thus weather factors in the operation altitude should also be considered in the mission planning stage. In this study, we propose a novel mission planning scheme based on target scheduling and deviation correction method incorporating weather factors.

  • The wake-homing underwater guided weapon that detects and tracks wake generated during voyage of a surface ship is impossible to avoid with the present acoustic deception torpedo defense system. Therefore, research on bubble-generating wake decoy is necessary to deceive wake-homing underwater guided weapon. Experiments in various environments are required to verify the effective operation method and performance of the wake decoy, but performance verification through underwater experiment is limited. In this paper, we develop a simulator for an torpedo defense system of surface ship, which is applied bubble-generating wake decoy, against acoustic, wake, and hybrid homing underwater guided weapon attack. The simulator includes surface ship model, acoustic decoy(static, mobile) model, bubble-generating wake decoy model, search and motion model of underwater guided weapon and so on. By integrating various models, MATLAB GUI simulator was developed. Through the simulation results for various environmental variables by this simulator, it is judged that effective operation method and performance verification of the bubble-generating wake decoy can be performed.

  • Hantaan virus(HTNV) causes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) with a case fatality rate ranging from <1 to 15 % in human. Hantavax is a vaccine against the Hantavirus, which has been conditionally approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety(MFDS). However, only 50 % of volunteers had neutralizing antibodies 1 year following the boost. Effective antiviral treatments against HTNV infection are limited. Hantaviruses generally cause asymptomatic infection in adult mice. On the other hand, infection of suckling and newborn mice with hantaviruses causes lethal neurological diesease or persistant infection, which is different from the disease in humans. The development of vaccines and antiviral strategies for HTNV has been partly hampered by the lack of an efficient lethal mouse model to evaluate the efficacy of the candidate vaccines or antivirals. In this report, we established a lethal mouse model for HTNV, which may facilitate in vivo studies on the evaluation of candidate drugs against HTNV. The median lethal dose value of HTNV was calculated by probit analysis of deaths occurring within two weeks. Five groups of ten ICR mice were injected intracranially with serial 2-fold dilutions (from 50 to 3.125 PFU/head) of HTNV. Mice injected with HTNV began to die at 8 days post-infection. The lethal dose required to kill 50 % of the mice (LD50) was calculated to be 2.365 PFU/head.

  • Adversarial attacks have received great attentions for their capacity to distract state-of-the-art neural networks by modifying objects in physical domain. Patch-based attack especially have got much attention for its optimization effectiveness and feasible adaptation to any objects to attack neural network-based object detectors. However, despite their strong attack performance, generated patches are strongly perceptible for humans, violating the fundamental assumption of adversarial examples. In this paper, we propose a camouflaged adversarial patch optimization method using military camouflage assessment metrics for naturalistic patch attacks. We also investigate camouflaged attack loss functions, applications of various camouflaged patches on army tank images, and validate the proposed approach with extensive experiments attacking Yolov5 detection model. Our methods produce more natural and realistic looking camouflaged patches while achieving competitive performance.

  • It is obvious that understanding the effects of shallow water environment of Korea is very important to guarantee the optimal performance of active sonar such as monostatic and bistatic sonar. For this reason, in this paper, we analyzed the detection performance characteristics for various depth deployments of sonar in summer, winter and water temperature inversion environments, which environments are frequently observed in shallow water of Korea such as the Yellow sea. To analyze only effects of water temperature structures on target detection performance, we applied range independent conditions for bottom, sea surface and water temperature characteristics. To understand the characteristics of detection performance, we conducted transmission loss and signal excess modeling. From the results, we were able to confirm the characteristics of detection performance of active sonar. In addition, we verified that operation depth of transmitter and receiver affects the detection performance. Especially in the water temperature inversion environment, it was confirmed that the shadow zone could be minimized and the detection range could be increased through bistatic operation.

  • The present study investigates the effect of PMMA and BN content on microstructure, mechanical and dielectric properties of silicon nitride($Si_3N_4$) ceramics in $Y_2O_3-Al_2O_3$ additive system. The total additive content was fixed at 8 wt.% and the amount of PMMA varies from 0 to 40 wt.% and BN varies from 0 to 36 wt.%, respectively. The crystalline phases of the samples were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. All the sintered sample shows complete transformation of ${\alpha}$ to ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ during the sintering process indicated that the phase transformation was unaffected by the PMMA or BN content. However, the microstructure shows that the residual porosity increased with increasing PMMA and BN content. In addition, the flexural strength and the dielectric constant decrease with addition of PMMA and BN due to the residual porosity. This article provides empirical study of design parameters for $Si_3N_4$-based radome materials.

  • This paper presents guidelines for the verification test on electromagnetic environmental effects of a commercial derivative military aircraft. To prove the safety-of-flight of a renovated aircraft and appropriate working of electronic system/device, E3 test and analysis at the system level should be performed prior to its operations on real warfare. For the aircraft modified with Falcon 2000S, we concentrate on intra-system EMC, EMRADHAZ (Electromagnetic Radiation Hazards), electrical bonding, P-Static as test and lightning as analysis from a airworthiness certification point of view based on MIL-STD-464, MIL-HDBK-516. As a result, it is verified that the modified aircraft has enough electromagnetic compatibility capabilities under EME(Electromagnetic Environment). In the process, test and analysis methods considering shielding effectiveness(SE) are applied.

  • The inertial sensor errors in SDINS(Strapdown Inertial Navigation System) can be compensated by rotating the inertial measurement unit and it is called RINS(Rotational Inertial Navigation System). It is assumed that the error of the inertial sensor in RINS is a static bias. However, the error of the inertial sensor actually developed and produced is not a static bias due to the change of the temperature applied to the sensor and the influence of the earth's gravity acceleration. In this paper, we propose a six-position gyro bias calibration method to evaluate the gyro bias required for RINS and present the test results of applying it to a ring laser gyro inertial navigation system under development.
