The Effect of Policy Rate Adjustments in US on the Korean Bond (미국 연방정책금리 조정효과가 국내 국고채시장에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of FRB's policy rate adjustments on the 10 years Korea Treasury Bond (KTB) market. Our results are summarized as follows. First, it is found that the FRB's policy rate adjustments are statistically significant positive impact on the 10 years KTB yield. Based on projection, the 10bp increases in FRB's policy rate generates 7bp higher in 10 years KTB yield. Second, the result from after the Lehman bankruptcy in '08 is found to be statistically significant, while that of before financial crisis is not. Third, the variable, in which consistent with yield difference between the 10 years UTB(US Treasury Bond) and the 10 years KTB, is found that is statistically significant positive impact in 1% significance level. And also given that Brunner(2000) exhibited that the Federal Fund Rate innovations are found to impact on other economic variables through the impulse response, the 10 years KTB yield is found to respond to innovation in the Federal Fund Rate up to about 12 months.

The effect of Consumer Price, Interest Rate and Sales Performance on the KOSPI (소비자물가와 금리, 매출실적이 종합주가지수에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • Recently, the Korean economy is congested with Japan's economic retaliation, the US-China trade war, the Bank of Korea's 0.25% base rate cut and Korea's economic growth forecast revision. The purpose of this study is to analyze the KOSPI, CPI, Treasury bonds(3 years) Interest rate & sales performance of all industries, and examine the impact of each index on the KOSPI. The analysis period is from January 2003 to June 2019, and the effect of each index on the KOSPI is analyzed. In numerical analysis, we performed correlation coefficients and regression analysis. In the model analysis, the distribution, quadrant, scatter, box-plot and impulse response were examined. This study examined the volatility and dynamic characteristics of each index. As a result, the KOSPI showed a high correlation with sales and Treasury bonds, but showed a very low correlation with the CPI. The KOSPI will continue to be affected by sales and interest rates.

A Study on the relationship analysis between the K-REITs loaning rate and interest rate variables (K-REITs의 차입이자율과 금리 변수 간 관계 분석)

  • This study analyzed the long term relationship between the K-REITs' lending rate and interest rate variables based on ARDL (autoregressive distributed lag) and also examined the short term relationship based on the ARDL-ECM model. In the results of the empirical test, there is a co-integration relationship among the K-REITs' lending rate, 3 year government bond (rate), 3 year government bond (rate), corporation bond (rate) (AA-, 3year) and general fund loan rate. This means that the K-REITs' lending rate is related to the long term interest rate. The corporate general fund loan rate has a significant correlation with the K-REITs' lending rate in the long term relation and short term adjustment process. The establishment of a management plan by the REITs considering the trends in the corporate general fund loan rate in the decision making process for finance sector borrowings can be practically helpful for the K-REITs.

The Effect of Export Volume, Export Price Index and Treasury Bond Interest Rate on Export Amount (수출물동량과 수출물가지수, 국고채금리가 수출금액에 미치는 영향)

  • Following the recent US trade deficit, the trade war began between Korea and Japan in July. Korea's trade dependence is about 60% or more, indicating high export dependence and import dependence. The purpose of this study is to examine export amount, export volume, export price index, Treasury bond interest rate and analyze how index affects export amount. This study attempts to analyze the comovement and volatility with export amount. For this purpose, monthly data for each indicator were selected for a total of 234 months from January 2000 to June 2019. As a result of analysis, exports amount and exports volume showed very high comovement, exports amount and interest rates showed low comovement, but exports amount and exports prices showed very low comovement. In the future, Korea should continue to increase exports amount in view of its high dependence on trade, along with policies to expand the domestic market. To this end, strategy to increase exports volume should be presented. Korea should increase the logistics environment and competitiveness of each port and airport, improve domestic and overseas network construction and support services of logistics companies.

  • 신재생에너지 보급 확산을 위해서 정부에서는 2009년부터 2030년까지의 시평을 가진 '제3차 신재생에너지 기술개발 및 이용 보급' 기본계획을 수립하고, 이의 달성을 위하여 예산투자와 함께 기술개발 지원, 보급 보조 및 융자, 발전차액지원제도, 그린홈 100만호 보급사업 등을 다각적으로 추진하고 있다. 이러한 보급지원제도의 하위제도로써의 융자지원제도는 신재생에너지 설치자 및 생산자를 대상으로 장기저리의 융자지원을 해주는 제도이다. 이를 통해 초기 투자비를 경감, 사업적 경제성을 확보하여 신재생에너지설비 및 관련 산업을 보급, 육성하고자 하는 것이다. 융자지원을 위한 금리는 기준금리(국고채 3년물 수익률)에 연동하여 분기별로 조정되고, 시설자금, 생산자금, 운전자금으로 분류하여 태양열, 태양광, 바이오, 폐기물, 수력, 지열, LFG, 풍력, 연료전지 등의 분야에 지원한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 융자지원제도 현황을 고찰하고, 기준금리의 변동에 따른 융자지원 금리의 변동을 함께 살펴보았다. 각 에너지원별 지원에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 알아보았다.

Impacts of US Monetary Policy on Domestic Bond and FX Swap Markets (미국 통화정책이 국내 채권 및 외환스왑시장에 미치는 영향)

  • Given the US dollar's status as a global safe haven, global factors, such as US monetary policy, may have considerable impacts on financial markets in other countries. Regarding such hypothesis, this paper looked at the impacts of US monetary policy on domestic bond and FX swap markets through an event study. According to our analysis, US monetary policy had significant positive impacts on domestic interest rates. In particular, it turned out to have bigger impacts on long-term products with high term premiums. By period, the correlation between US monetary policy and domestic interest rates was not significant before the financial crisis, but was clearly positive after the crisis. The US conventional monetary policy was seen to have big impacts on short-term and medium-term KTB yields, while its unconventional monetary policy had major impacts on long-term KTB yields. Moreover, FX swap rates reacted very sensitively to US monetary policy shocks before the financial crisis, while they did not show any significant reactions after the crisis. This suggests that, in line with the covered interest rate parity, the impact of US monetary policy shocks was transmitted to domestic financial markets mainly through swap rate adjustments before the global financial crisis, but through the changes in domestic interest rates during the post-crisis period.

A Study on Foreign Exchange Rate Prediction Based on KTB, IRS and CCS Rates: Empirical Evidence from the Use of Artificial Intelligence (국고채, 금리 스왑 그리고 통화 스왑 가격에 기반한 외환시장 환율예측 연구: 인공지능 활용의 실증적 증거)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out which artificial intelligence methodology is most suitable for creating a foreign exchange rate prediction model using the indicators of bond market and interest rate market. KTBs and MSBs, which are representative products of the Korea bond market, are sold on a large scale when a risk aversion occurs, and in such cases, the USD/KRW exchange rate often rises. When USD liquidity problems occur in the onshore Korean market, the KRW Cross-Currency Swap price in the interest rate market falls, then it plays as a signal to buy USD/KRW in the foreign exchange market. Considering that the price and movement of products traded in the bond market and interest rate market directly or indirectly affect the foreign exchange market, it may be regarded that there is a close and complementary relationship among the three markets. There have been studies that reveal the relationship and correlation between the bond market, interest rate market, and foreign exchange market, but many exchange rate prediction studies in the past have mainly focused on studies based on macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, current account surplus/deficit, and inflation while active research to predict the exchange rate of the foreign exchange market using artificial intelligence based on the bond market and interest rate market indicators has not been conducted yet. This study uses the bond market and interest rate market indicator, runs artificial neural network suitable for nonlinear data analysis, logistic regression suitable for linear data analysis, and decision tree suitable for nonlinear & linear data analysis, and proves that the artificial neural network is the most suitable methodology for predicting the foreign exchange rates which are nonlinear and times series data. Beyond revealing the simple correlation between the bond market, interest rate market, and foreign exchange market, capturing the trading signals between the three markets to reveal the active correlation and prove the mutual organic movement is not only to provide foreign exchange market traders with a new trading model but also to be expected to contribute to increasing the efficiency and the knowledge management of the entire financial market.

Price Prediction of Fractional Investment Products Using LSTM Algorithm: Focusing on Musicow (LSTM 모델을 이용한 조각투자 상품의 가격 예측: 뮤직카우를 중심으로)

  • Real estate and artworks were considered challenging investment targets for individual investors because of their relatively high average transaction price despite their long investment history. Recently, the so-called fractional investment, generally known as investing in a share of the ownership right for real-life assets, etc., and most investors perceive that they actually own a piece (fraction) of the ownership right through their investments, is gaining popularity. Founded in 2016, Musicow started the first service that allows users to invest in copyright fees related to music distribution. Using the LSTM algorithm, one of the deep learning algorithms, this research predict the price of right to participate in copyright fees traded in Musicow. In addition to variables related to claims such as transfer price, transaction volume of claims, and copyright fees, comprehensive indicators indicating the market conditions for music copyright fees participation, exchange rates reflecting economic conditions, KTB interest rates, and Korea Composite Stock Index were also used as variables. As a result, it was confirmed that the LSTM algorithm accurately predicts the transaction price even in the case of fractional investment which has a relatively low transaction volume.

The Determination Factor's Variation of Real Estate Price after Financial Crisis in Korea (2008년 금융위기 이후 부동산가격 결정요인 변화 분석)

  • This paper investigates the determination factors' variation of real estate price after sub-prime financial crisis, in korea, using a VAR model. The model includes land price, housing price, housing rent (Jensei) price, which time period is from 2000:1Q to 2011:2Q and uses interest rate, real GDP, consumer price index, KOSPI, the number of housing construction, the amount of land sales and practices to impulse response and variance decomposition analysis. Data cover two sub-periods and divided by 2008:3Q that occurred the sub-prime crisis; one is a period of 2000:1Q to 2008:3Q, the other is based a period of 2000:1Q to 2011:2Q. As a result, Comparing sub-prime crisis before and after, land price come out that the influence of real GDP is expanding, but current interest rate's variation is weaken due to the stagnation of current economic status and housing construction market. Housing price is few influenced to interest rate and real GDP, but it is influenced its own variation or Jensei price's variation. According to the Jensei price's rapidly increasing in nowadays, housing price might be increasing a rising possibility. Jensei price is also weaken the influence of all economic index, housing price, comparing before sub-prime financial crisis and it is influenced its own variation the same housing price. As you know, real estate price is weakened market basic value factors such as, interest rate, real GDP, because it is influenced exogenous economic factors such as population structural changes. Economic participators, economic officials, consumer, construction supplyers need to access an accurate observation about current real estate market and economic status.

Determinants of Credit Default Swap Spreads: The Case of Korean Firms (한국 기업들의 신용부도스왑 스프레드에 대한 결정요인 분석)

  • Among several macroeconomic missteps blamed for the recent global financial crisis including the social problems of income distribution and the lack of proper financial remedies, two of them have received particular attention: the global BOP(Balance of Payment) imbalance and the misguided monetary policy. Such BOP imbalance was blamed for massive foreign exchange investment flows from Asia into the U.S., triggering the financial and real estate bubble in America. The latter refers to the excessively loose monetary policy of the U.S. Federal Reserve, which pushed financial institutions and households into reckless investment behavior in search of higher returns. Given the abuse of certain innovative financial techniques and new investment instruments that have been created in recent decades, both collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and credit default swaps (CDS) enjoyed a symbiotic and toxic relationship prior to the financial crisis This paper is organized as follows: The first section analyzes the real causes of the recent financial crisis. The second details the role of CDOs and CDS. Then, to identify key determinants of the CDS spreads in an emerging capital market, the sample data of major Korean firms' CDS spreads are used to estimate the risk premium by utilizing the multiple regression analysis. The empirical test result indicates that Korean 3-year treasury bond rate(TYIELD), market to book value ratio(MV/BV), and assets size(INASSETS) are shown to demonstrate statistically significant influences on the changes of the CDS premium for sample firms.
