  • Zircon separated from a biotite schist of the Guryong Group in Odesan area, eastern part of the Gyeonggi Massif in Korea were analysed for SHRIMP U-Pb ages. CL images display composite core-rim structures of the zircon, indicating an in-situ overgrowth of zircon through a high-grade metamorphism. The metamorphic zircon rims give a weighted mean age of $247{\pm}6Ma$. While the detrital zircon cores have zoning patterns and Th/U ratios indicative of a magmatic origin. Among 53 analyses from the cores, 46 data yield near concordant ages which are concentrated at $378{\pm}10Ma$ (n=9), $420{\pm}4Ma$ (n=6) and $1845{\pm}9Ma$ (n=18) with sporadic Neoproterozoic ($687{\pm}9Ma$) to late Archean ($2519{\pm}20Ma$) ages. The age data constraint sedimentation age of protolith of the Guryong Group, so far unknown, as late Paleozoic. The Guryong Group of this study is the first late Paleozoic strata reported from eastern Gyeonggi Massif, and its maximum depositional age (ca 378 Ma) is identical with those of the late Paleozoic strata in the southwestern Ogcheon Belt. The Triassic metamorphic age and abundant middle Paleozoic provenance (361~425 Ma) of the Guryong Group are similar with those reported from the Triassic collisional belt in central China. Thus this study indicates that the Odesan area would be an possible eastward extension of the Triassic collisional belt in central China.

  • The Odesan Gneiss Complex consists of mainly migmatitic gneiss and porphyroblastic gneiss with locally intercated quartzite, amphibolite, marble and leucocratic gneiss. At least two different regional metamorphisms are recognized in the study area. Metamorphic grade of the first metamorphism increases from the K-feldspar-muscovite zone(in which biotite-muscovite-plagioclase-quartz and garnet-biotite-muscovite-K-feldspar-plagioclase-quartz assemblages occur) in the east and southwestern part of the study area to the K-feldspar-garnet zone(in which garnet-biotite-K-feldspar-plagioclase-quartz, biotite-K-feldspar-plagioclase-quartz, garnet-biotite-K-feldspar-plagioclase-sillimanite-spinel-quartz assemblages occur) in the northwestern part. Kyanite is found as inclusions in plagioclase. The second metamorphism is characterised by occurrence of cordierite. The metamorphic grade of 2nd metamorphism decreases radically from the central-western part near Gaeinsan in which cordierite-garnet-sillimanite-biotite-muscovite-quartz, cordierite-garnet-spinel-sillimanite-biotite-muscovite-quartz assemblages representing the garnet-cordierite zone are observed. The garnet-cordierite zone is surrounded by the sillimanite-cordierite zone which shows cordierite-sillimanite-biotite-plagioclase, cordierite-muscovite-biotite-plagioclase and sillimanite-muscovite-biotite-plagioclase assemblages. The peak metamorphic P-T conditions of the first metamorphism calcuted from garnet-biotite-sillimanite-K-feldspar-plagioclase-spinel assemblage are 5.4~7.4 kb and $776-789^{\circ}C$. Real P-T condition of the first metamorphism might be higher than the calcuated P-T condition according to the study based on the phase equilibria. P-T conditions calcuated from the garnet-biotite in plagioclase are 12.5kb and $650^{\circ}C$ which indicate that the P-T path of the first metamorphism had passed a high pressure condition before the peak metamorphic temperature condition. The peak metamorphic P-T conditions of the second metamorphism calcuated from garnet-biotite-cordierite-spinel-quartz assemblage are $680~750^{\circ}C$ at pressures lower than 6 kb. In the Odesan Gneiss Complex, the first metamorphism of medium pressure and high temperature had occurred after the high pressure condition and fast uplift and then the second metamorphism of low pressure condition occurred after sedimentation of the Kuryong Group.

  • The migmatitic gneiss in the Odesan Gneiss Complex has small amount of quartzite, amphibolite and marble and the Kuryong Group which contact with migmatitic gneiss unconformitly, also contains some amphibolite. Preview studies of this area had regarded that the amphibolites contact with marble had been produced by metasomatism from the pelitic and calcareous sediments mixtures, but the amphibolite is reinterpreted as igneous origin. $SiO_2$ content of the amphibolite is 45.9~52.7 wt%, which corresponds to basaltic composition. MgO content has narrow range (4.6~6.87 wt%) and major and trace element are plotted against MgO,$TiO_2, P_2O_5$, Hf, Zr are reduced and Cr and Ni are increased their content with increasing MgO. This phenomenon indicates that the basaltic magma as the protolith of the amphibolite had frationated with the crystallization of the pyroxene and/or olivine. REE pattern has smoothly decrease from LREE to HREE. Eu/Eu(0.83~1.19) show the flat Eu anomaly, which indicate small fractional crystallization of plagioclase. HREE is enriched in the garnet-bearing amphibolites. Several discrimination diagram for the basaltic magma show that the amphibolite of the study area is originated tholeiitic basaltic magma indicating continental rift environment. Due to determine the metamorphic condition garnet-hornblende geothermometry and hornblende-plagioclase geobarometry are used. Peak metamorphic temperature range of the amphibolite $788~870^{\circ}C$ and is deduced toward the northeastern part. The calculated temperature from the amphibolite has slightly higher than the temperature of the metapelites but the trend of metamorphic grade which decrease from western to eastern part progradly is similar to each other. The metamorphic pressure calculated by garnet- hornblede-plagioclase geobarometry is 4~5kb. But ilmenite-plagioclase pair enclosed in garnet show 8 kb at $700^{\circ}C$ by garnet-ilmenite-rutile-plagioclase geobarometery. The zonal profile of garnet in sample 84 shows the bell-shape profile, which grossular content decreases whereas pyrope content increases progressively. This means that the amphibolite has undergone the clockwise P-T-t path which is shown in the migmatitic gneiss of the Odesan Gneiss Complex.
