  • The occurrence of toothache signals the malfunction in oral health, which allows the detection of any abnormal condition in the oral cavity at an early stage to prevent the condition from worsening, and thus can act as a preventive measure. This study has looked into the status of oral health management in relation to toothache through the structured survey administered to 235 college students. Based on the survey results, this study aimed at comparing the toothache occurrence prediction between regression analysis and CART model in order to clarify the relationship between the factors of oral health management habits that contribute to toothache occurrence. According to the result, there was a difference between the present health status and the health status of the past year depending on the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence (p<0.05). There was a difference in the regularity of meal time depending on the presence non-presence of toothache occurrence from the dietary habits of the research subjects (p<0.05). As for the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the oral hygiene habits of the research subject, there was a difference between the occurrence and nonoccurrence of bleeding during brushing or flossing (p<0.05). According to the results of regression analysis, no factors were signifiant in the relationship with the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the status of life habits and oral hygiene habits. 70% of the researched group was randomly selected as the sample for generating an analytical model and the remaining 30% was used as the sample for generating an evaluation model. According to the results of CART model, the occurrence of toothache was higher in the case of irregular meal time and poor current health condition than the case of average or satisfactory health condition. The above results imply that CART model is very useful technique in predicting toothache occurrence compared to regression analysis, and suggests that CART model could be very useful in predicting other oral diseases including toothache.

  • The purposes of this study were to understand the oral health promotion behavior and dental health condition of primary school children and to examine the relationships between the two variables. For that purpose, 729 fifth and sixth graders from four primary school located in Seoul were surveyed. In addition to the survey responses, dental examination results were used for analysis. The findings were as follows: 1. The children scored 3.51 out of full 5 points in oral health promotion behavior. they scored the highest at 3.82 in dietary habits, which were followed by going to a dentist for prevention purposes at 3.43, the method and frequency of brushing teeth at 3.40 and the use of fluorine at 3.39. 2. It turned out that 46.9% of the children had decayed permanent teeth. The number of decayed teeth was $1.66{\pm}2.32$, that of missing teeth was $0.03{\pm}0.24$. 3. There were reverse correlations(r = -0.32) between the children's subjective perception of their dental health condition and decayed teeth. The more positive perceptions they had for their own dental health condition, the less decayed teeth they had(p < 0.01). 4. There were also reverse correlations(r = -0.10) between the children's oral health promotion behavior and decayed teeth. The more they were engaged in Behavior of alimentation, the less decayed teeth they had(p < 0.01). The results indicate that primary school children can keep their dental health by practicing the right oral health promotion behavior, which calls for a need to develop and apply dental health education programs to promote the oral health promotion behavior among primary school children.

  • There are a number of situations where the oral mucosa can be sucked or pressed to produce relatively banal but clinical distinctive changes. The labial and buccal mucosa and tongue may develop protuberances in areas where a tooth is missing or extra space is present. The mucosa is pressed and sucked into these spaces, thus leading to the development of a fibrous hyperplasia. This case report describes the management of fibrous hyperplasia in oral mucosa. Fibrous hyperplasia can be formed by habitual pressure or suction in oral mucosa. Treatment of fibrous hyperplasia consists of simple excision and, if feasible, elimination of the cause. And habit control is a important factor for preventing recurrence.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the dental screening and health care behaviors for 17810 residents of Gyeongsangnam-do province using the data of the community health survey conducted in 2014. The SPSS ver. 23.0 statistical program was used. The residents were male, aged 30-49 years, city dwellers, their final education level was college or higher, their income was more than 600 KRW monthly, and they had a lot of experience of dental screening. In terms of oral health care, scaling, brushing after eating, brushing before going to bed, and brushing more than 4 times a day were found in the dental screening. In terms of health care, the levels of drinking, without chronic diseases, self-rated health and self-rated oral health were high when the residents had experience of dental screening(p<0.001). Therefore, it is necessary to establish a plan to improve the oral examination rate, because the level of dental screening is related to the levels of subjective health awareness and chronic diseases and lifestyle, and it is necessary to develop an education program to improve the awareness of the need for regular dental screening.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure using a six-step solution for taste recognition threshold and using a Wet-Test for salivary flow amount of the adults who reside in Daegu area and are more than their 40's old to find out the relationship between DMFT index and OHIP-14. The study result revealed that the practice of oral health gave an effect to taste recognition threshold, dietary habit gave an effect to salivary flow amount, and sweet and sour taste of taste recognition threshold and salivary flow amount gave effects to the DMFT index. Therefore, it was found that the person with good practice of oral health and dietary habit had good taste, salivary flow amount and DMFT index. According to this result, it is necessary to increase the practice of oral health, increase the sensitivity to taste recognition threshold, improve dietary habit, increase salivary flow amount and decrease DMFT index in order to improve OHIP-14. Dietary habit education has been performed without the evaluation on the individual's level of taste recognition threshold. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the education program to measure and notify the taste recognition threshold in the oral health education so that individual can adjust it by himself.
