The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of parents knowledge on oral health status toward their children. This study was carried out to investigate and analyze the congnitive degree of dental subjects and public who have an experience to be treated for their teeth on the dental knowledge, operative dentistry, and dental prothesis in the oral health care through the questionnaires. The results are as follows; 1. In questioning the fundamental knowledges, 47.6% of respondents in their thirties said that milk tooth of their children are number 20. Although schooling level of their parents is not rel evant to this survey, 21.9% who have only high-school diploma, said also "number 20". As a conclusion, most parents have a big concern in their children's teeth. 2. 44.0% parents answered, asked "who do decayed teeth sping up, and 26.4% said" It is why children eat sugary. Asked "What is efficient preventive measures decayed teeth", 26.5% said it is very relevant to be in the utilization of F-tooth-paste. 3. For children's good theeth, periodically brushing is the important. Most parents recognized brushing efficient. 4. In questioning the possession amount of decayed teeth, 45.8% have more than four. Usually those parents who have children filled their decayed teeth with artificial or installed with dental prosthesis. As a conclusion age is relevant in this study in P<0.05 level. 5. In asking for efficient starting-year of tooth brushing, 42.6% said that 2 or 3 year age is the most efficient, and especially 80.6% teath children to learn brushing themselves(P<0.05) 6. In surveying the way they obtained dental information, 38.9% were given from mass media, but 90% were once not delivered with the education of dental health. Because parents have been know narrow and deficient information of dental health mass media, experts in dental health have to deliver help their parents to be delivered with systematical dental information. The conclustion of this study can summarized that parent's role very important to their children's tooth health and the education program for systematical dental information should be delivered to their parents.
This study aims to investigate the effect of four-week oral health promotion program operated through the cooperation between professionals and teachers of community child centers by reflecting characteristics of the centers and to suggest oral health promotion program applicable to community child centers. 4 community child centers has an enrollment of 119. 53 (44.5%) children completing the first and the second questionnaire survey were analyzed in this study. When dental plaque scores of 41 participants joining all of the first- to the fourth- week program and undergoing the dental plaque examination were compared before and after the oral health promotion program for community child center, the plaque control score was improved after the repeated education(p<0.05). Oral health knowledge and awareness of children in community child center were positive improved by oral health promotion program(p<0.05). And number of tooth-brushing a day improved by oral health promotion program. These findings suggest that there was a need for various oral health promotion program development in the community.
The purpose of this research was to compare the oral health behaviors for children and teachers in toothbrushing facilities installed community child center related with teacher-supervised toothbrushing. This research was follow-up study from the Korean Dental Hygienists Association third project '2010 program of making of the diamond tooth'. 266 child support teachers were invited and 201 were included in the study (response rate: 75.6%). Statistical analysis conducted using PASW ver. 18.0 for Windows. The difference on the distribution of independent variables related with teacher-supervised toothbrushing was verified with chi-square test. The results of this research could be summarized as follows: The children in the teacher-supervised toothbrushing community child center, the practice rate of toothbrushing was higher than the children in the non-supervised toothbrushing community child center (p<0.05). Teachers offered children one of snacks and drinks per day independently of teacher-supervised toothbrushing (p>0.05). Most of participated teachers accepted to be responsible for oral health of children (73.4%) and demanded that improve facilities for a toothbrushing in community child center (77.2%). In conclusion, this study suggests that a programme of daily teacher-supervised toothbrushing can be effectively targeted into community child center.
Health behavior is one component of life style and is defined as behaviors performed by a person to protect, promote, or maintain the their health. General health behavior habits include not smoking, weight management, moderate drinking, regular exercise. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between toothbrushing and general health behaviors in 1,013 adults using data from the 2008 Daejeon Health Promotion Survey. Results showed no significant difference by region in general health behavior and toothbrushing. Smoking, alcohol consumption and toothbrushing frequency were related to sex, age, monthly income, occupation, and the degree of obesity. The predictoers of toothbrushing more than a day by losistic regression were female sex (vs. male, OR 1.88, 95% CI 1.20~2.95), age ${\geq}65$ years (vs. twenties, OR 0.51, 95% CI 0.26~0.99), monthly income 2 miillions Korean Won (KRW) to 3 millions KRW (vs. <2 million won, OR 1.58, 95% CI 1.04~2.42), white collar (vs. self-employment, OR 2.74, 95% CI 1.62~4.64), and regular exercise (vs. never, OR 1.60, 95% CI 1.21~2.11). We recommend the independent administration of oral health promotion programs focusing on aged and vulnerable social group because general health behaviors except regular exercise were not related to toothbrushing frequency.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to develop health education program, by analyzing the relationship between the oral health behavior intention and self-efficacy in dental hygiene students. Methods : This research was based on self administrated survey conducted by 348 dental hygiene students. The survey was composed of five items of general characteristics, ten items of factor in self-efficacy and seven items of factor in oral health behavior intention. Results : According to general characteristics, students with high grades had higher oral health behavior intention(p<0.05) and students answered that the significance of oral health is very important had higher oral health behavior intention(p<0.05). The level of self-efficacy was separated by high-level(30%), medium-level(40%), and low-level (30%), and the higher self-efficacy was, the higher oral health behavior intention was. Conclusions : By improving dental hygiene student's self-efficacy, it was necessary to promote oral health behavior intention.
The main object of this study is to render a better dental education to mental disabilities, teachers, and their parents. By providing a better dental education to them, mental disabilities would understand the importance of their oral hygiene. The study was held in Seoul at two different locations, named H and E mental welfare facilities. Ninety Three mental disabilities were studied by observing their oral behavior, simple oral hygiene index and plaque index prior and post to dental education. At the end of education, following result were gathered from two mental facilities. First, the level of oral behavior in Class 1,2, and 3 mental disabilities were observed prior and post to the dental education. Overall, there was no significant difference among Class 1 mental disabilities with the dental education. Second, in simple oral hygiene index, the severity of mental illness has affected on their oral behavior (F=6.322, p<.001). Third, in simple oral hygiene index, the frequency of dental education, regardless of severity of mental illness has affected on their oral hygiene (F=5.961, p<.01). Fourth, the plaque index also illustrated that the frequency of dental education, regardless of severity of dental illness has affected on their oral hygiene (F=5.126, p<.05). Finally, the general characteristics of mental disabilities according to changes in oral health awareness to gender, age, disability type, educational level do not statistically significant in all variables. Their simple oral hygiene index and plaque index advanced, although after a while they started to lose focus, which brought back their old habits. Nevertheless, in conclusion I believe that helping mental disabilities more frequently to constant reminder, will not only keep them entertained, but help them realize how important oral hygiene practice is, hopefully increasing and benefiting those with mental disabilities for future reference.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge of orthodontic patients about oral health knowledge and their actual oral hygiene care, which affected the oral hygiene of orthodontic patients. It's specifically meant to provide information on the prevention of the possible side effects of orthodontic treatment and the promotion of the oral health of orthodontic patients. Methods : This study were 227 orthodontic patients of dental clinics specialized in orthodontics. The collected data were analyzed by the statistical package SPSS WIN 18.0. Results : 1.As for Oral health knowledge, they had the best knowledge about smoking and dental checkup among the subfactors of oral health knowledge. 2. As to actual oral hygiene care, what they did best was doing toothbrushing before sleeping and what they did worst was avoiding eating food injurious to teeth. 3. They scored highest in the right toothbrushing(3.85), the use of oral hygiene supplies(3.62), the prevention of periodontal diseases(3.13) in the subfactors of actual oral hygiene care. They scored lowest in dental checkup and diet(2.99). 4. There were significant differences among the patients in oral health knowledge according to age(F=2.95, p<.05). Those who received another treatment during orthodontic treatment had a better oral health knowledge than the others who didn't, and the gap between the two was statistically significant(t=2.26, p<.05). 5. There were differences among the patients in actual health hygiene care according to gender(t=2.71, p<.01), age(F=4.40, p<.01), educational experiences about oral hygiene care(t=3.06, p<.01) and experience of receiving another treatment during orthodontic treatment(t=2.56, p<.05). 6. There was a positive correlation between oral health knowledge and oral hygiene care(r=.261, p<.001). Conclusions :The above-mentioned findings suggest that more education of diet and toothbrushing should be provided for orthodontic patients to improve their oral health care.
This study was performed to compare the status of oral care knowledge, oral care practice, and the patterns of the oral health care utilization before and during the pregnancy. It was conducted on the basis of a survey of 291 pregnant women who were in 9 post-natal care centers for post-natal care after delivery located in Daegu Metropolitan city and Changwon city of Gyeongsangnam-do from April 1st till April 29th on 2010. Forty five percent of them were experienced with the gum bleeding before pregnancy and 55.7% were experienced during pregnancy. The number of average tooth brushing per day was 3.05 times before pregnancy and 2.99 times during pregnancy in the survey. The patients who were experienced in dental health care during pregnancy out of the subjects for study were 51 for 17.5%. The score for the dental health knowledge was 7.82 for 10 grade scale and 5.38 before pregnancy and 5.14 during pregnancy for 10 grade scale in the actual performance scoring for dental care. Pre-dental care, experience in activity restriction due to dental disease, concern about oral health and regular visit to dental clinic were significant associated with use of dental care services during pregnancy.
This study is a secondary data analysis study to examine the relationship between oral health behaviors, quality of life, and depression in adult men using data of the first year (2016) of the 7th national health and nutrition examination survey. The analysis was conducted on 2,647 of above the age 19 in men. The data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0. Results were positive correlation between the quality of life (EQ-5D) and oral health behavior (0.142, p <0.01), and a negative correlation with the depression (PHQ-9) (-0.347, p). <0.01). The higher the rate of oral health behavior, the higher the quality of life and the lower the depression. These findings suggest that the level of practice of oral health behavior is closely related to the quality of life and depression, this will be used as basic data for developing health policy for oral health and general health improvement for adult males.
The purpose of this survey was to evaluate the efficiency on the oral health training of elderly adults who have experienced the oral health training program at welfare institutions in An-yang city, Korea. A total of 451 adults (aged 65 or more) were selected and surveyed by the self-reporting questionnaire that consist of 4 items and socio-economic general characteristics (gender, age). Oral health indices were produced by using the SPSS. The percentage of perceived oral health status that felt poor or very poor was decreased about 8.5% than before and the frequency of perceived oral symptom was decreased too and the practice rate and satisfaction with oral health training was significantly increase than before. Oral health promotion of the elderly adults at welfare institutions in An-yang city should focused on the constant attention the means of the preventive oral health training program.
