Separation and Distribution Coefficients of Some Transition Metal Ions in Some Mixed Solvents (혼합용매에서의 양이온교환수지에 의한 전이원소의 분리와 분배계수)

  • Distribution coefficients (C) of some transition metal ions such as Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), and Hg(II) have been determined in methanol-, ethanol-, isopropanol-, acetone-, and dimethylsulfoxide-water mixtures by using Rexyn 101 (Na-form) resin and 0.2 M sodium chloride solution. The log C values of the metallic ions decrease almost straightly with the increase in reciprocal values of the dielectric constants of the mixed solvents. In the solvents having the same dielectric constants, the distribution coefficients of the metallic ions decrease with the increase in the basicity of the aprotic organic molecule and with the decrease in the molecular size of the protic organic molecule. The separation of the metallic ions has been accomplished with the eluting agent suggested by the C values.

  • For the separation of boron isotopes, aminated polystyrenedivinylbenzene ion-exchange resins were prepared by chloromethylation of styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer (DVB 10%), followed by the reaction of methylamine. During the preparation of styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer, heptane for the porous resin and toluene for the non-porous resin were used as diluent, and the pore volume of the resins was determined by mercury porosimeter. In both water and aqueous alcohol solutions, the distribution coefficient of boric acid was decreased in accordance with increasing the alcohol concentration and the number of carbon atoms in the alcohol molecules. As a result of separatioin of boron isotope with nonporous and porous resin in water solvent, the separation efficiency of porous resin is better than that of the nonporous, and the result in both water and 50% methyl alcohol solvent relevant to nonporous resin indicated that the latter was better than the former.

PE 첨가에 의한 방사성폐수지 아스팔트고화체의 특성연구

  • 방사성 페이온교환수지 아스팔트고화체를 처분장 등지에서 장기간 저장시 안전성 확보를 위하여 물리적 강도가 높고 고화체내에서 방사성핵종의 침출저항성 및 처리시 감용의 효과가 우수한 고화체 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 실험에 사용된 이온교환수지는 입상형 양이온 교환수지를 대상으로 하였으며 고화매질로서는 도로포장용으로 생산되는 직류아스팔트 60/70을 사용하였다. 고화보조제는 방사성 고체패기물 포장시 사용되어 폐기물로 발생되는 페폴리에틸렌(폐PE) 필름을 사용하였다. 실험결과 고화체의 형태안정성은 PE 함유량이 10 wt% 이상일 때 고화체 형태를 그대로 유지할 수 있으며 압축강도는 414 kPa(60 psi) 이상을 나타내었다. 최적의 운전조건은 이온교환수지, PE 함유량이 건조기준으로 각각 30~50 wt%, 10~25 wt% 이며, 고화온도는 170~20$0^{\circ}C$이다. 고화체의 침출특성은 확산 (diffusion) 으로 해석이 가능하며, 유효확산계수(De)는 Cs, Co의 경우 각각 1.621$\times$$10^{-7}$, 1.186$\times$$10^{-9}$ $\textrm{cm}^2$/day로 나타나고, Leachablity index는 각각 11.7, 13.8로 미국 원자력위원회 (NRC)가 요구하는 기준값 6보다 훨씬 높게 나타났다.

Miscibility and Transesterification Reaction of blends of Polyarylate and Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer (Polyarylate와 열방성 액정고분자 블렌드의 상용성 및 에스터 교환반응에 대한연구)

  • 폴리아릴레이트(PAr)와 열방성 액정고분자(LCP)블렌드의 상용성과 두 고분자 사이 의 에스터 교환반응을 시차 주사 열분석기 (DSC)와 Fourier transform 적외선 분광분석기 (FT-IR spectroscopy)로 연구하였다. DSC를 이용하여 PAr-LCP 블렌드의 유리전이온도 (Tg)를 관찰한 결과, 두 개의 Tg가 관찰되었다. 측정된 Tg 결과로부터 블렌드 각 상에 녹아 있는 두성분의 상거동을 조사했으며 그결과 LCP가 PAR-rich 상에 녹아 들어간 양이 PAr 이 LCP-rich 상에 녹아 들어간 양보다 더 많음을 알수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 두 고분자 사 이에 부분적으로 상용성이 있음을 의미한다. 액정고분자의 이방성을 고려하여 PAr-LCP 블 렌드의 고분자-고분자 상호작용계수($\chi$12)는 0.069~0.076의 값으로 계산되었다. 두 고분자사 이의 에스터 교환반응를 조사하기 위하여 DSC내에서 열처리한 결과, 열처리 후에 PAr과 LCp의 Tg는 열처리하기 전에 비해 더 큰폭으로 두 Tg의중간값으로 이동하였다. 열처리한 PAr-LCP 블렌드를 FT-IR spectroscopy로 분석한 결과, 순수한 PAr과 LCP에 없는 새로운 에스터기의 특성피이크가 발견되었다. 이와 같은 열분석과 FT-IR spectroscopy 연구 결과 로부터 주어진 열처리 조건에서 PAr과 LCP 사이에 에스터 교환반응이 일어났음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The characteristics of mass transfer in an inorganic ion exchange system where Cs and/or Sr are separated by means of zeolites was investigated. Experimental work to separate Cs or Sr was carried out for Cs-AW300 and CS-AW500 systems in case of Cs whereas for Sr-4A and Sr-13X systems in case of Sr. The experimental conditions were chosen as follows in the batch type separation : temperature $25^{\circ}C$, agitation speed 300rpm, amount of zeolite 4g, volume of solution $0.5{\ell}$, and concentrations of solution 1000ppm, 2000ppm, respectively. As a result, it was found that the mass transfer rate is controlled mainly by the liquid film diffusion. The mass transfer coefficients in the film were found to be in the range of $10^{-4}{\sim}10^{-3}cm/sec$, while the apparent diffusivity inside the particles was found to be in the order of $10^{-8}cm^2/sec$.

Studies on the Preparation of Anion Exchange Membrane through Blending of the Poly(ethylenimine) and the Poly(vinyl alcohol) (폴리비닐알코올과 폴리에틸렌이민과의 혼합을 통한 음이온교환막의 제조 연구)

  • This study focuses on the investigation of the anion exchange membrane through blending poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) varying the mixing ratio. To characterize the resulting membranes, the water content, contact angle, FT-IR, thermal gravimetric analysis, ion exchange capacity, ion conductivity and elastic modulus were measured. The PVA / PEI = 90 / 10 membrane showed the ion conductivity, $5.16{\times}10^{-2}S/cm$ and simultaneously the contact angle, $78.3^{\circ}$. According to TGA measurement, the resulting membranes seemed durable at room temperature. Through the modulus test, the mechanical properties increased with increasing PVA content and apparently the membranes looked very robust.

Supercritical Water Oxidation of Anionic Exchange Resin (초임계수 산화를 이용한 음이온교환수지 분해)

  • The characteristics of supercritical water oxidation have been studied to decompose the waste anionic exchange resins which were produced from a power plant. The waste resins from a power plant were mixture of anionic and cationic exchange resins. The waste anionic exchange resins had been separated from the waste resins using a solid-liquid fluidized bed. It was confirmed that the cationic exchange resins were not included in the separated anionic exchange resins by the elemental and thermogravimetric analysis. A slurry of anionic exchange resins which could be fed continuously to a supercritical water oxidation apparatus by a high pressure pump was prepared using a wet ball mill. Although the COD of liquid effluent had been reduced more than 99.9% at 25.0 MPa and $500^{\circ}C$ within 2 min, the total nitrogen content was reduced only 41%. The addition of nitric acid to the slurry could reduce the total nitrogen content in treated water. The central composite design as a statistical desist of experiments had been applied to optimize the conditions of decomposing anionic resin slurry by means of the COD and total nitrogen contents in treated waters as the key process output variables. The COD values of treated waters had been reduced sufficiently to $99.9{\sim}100%$ af the reaction conditions of $500{\sim}540^{\circ}C$, 25.0 MPa within 2 min. The effects of temperature and nitric acid concentration on COD were not significant. However, the effect of nitric acid concentration on the total nitrogen was found to be significant. The regression equation for the total nitrogen had been obtained with nitric acid concentration and the coefficient of determination($r^2$) was 95.8%.
