Operating speed is one of key elements in the design and operation of freeway. Few studies have been carried out macroscopically to find characteristics of free-flow speed (FFS) using small sample size and not considering the conditions of traffic volume and the effects of hour periods. As an attempt to find out the characteristics of FFS, this study microscopically analysed both the distributions of freeway FFS and percentile speeds according to traffic volume and daily hour periods using huge sample size. It was found out that speed distributions are changed and showed different behaviors under the conditions of traffic volumes(1-5 veh/30sec) and daily hour periods(0-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-19, 20-23). V85(85th percentile speed) at morning, night, and midnight period decreases according to increase in traffic volume respectively, whereas V85 at day time does not show considerable differences. So the behaviors of V85 according to hour periods dramatically changed according to the increase in traffic volume.

Freeway FFS (Free-Flow Speed) under the state of LOS (Level of Service) A has been regarded as a homogeneous state to all levels of traffic volume. The features of low-density FFS is served as the basic data for a decision on limited maximal speed, accident analysis, simulation modeling etc. A few researches for the macroscopic characteristics of design and operation speed have been reported, and any study for the microscopic features of freeway free-flow speed under the state of low density has not been done. Therefore, the characteristics of low-density FFS according to the level of traffic volume (1-3 veh/30 sec) and daily hour periods (0-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-19, 20-23) is microscopically analyzed in this study with huge volume and speed data. It was found that speed distributions are changed and show different behaviors under the conditions of traffic volume levels and daily time periods. V85s (85th percentile speed) at early morning and night periods decrease when levels of traffic volume increase, whereas V85s at day time do not show considerable differences. Especially, FFSs of levels of traffic volume at early morning and night periods, despite low density, is analyzed as heterogeneity, but homogeneity at day time.
This study aims to study the impact of weather conditions and locational characteristics of bike stations on the usage of public bike sharing system for efficient deployment and operation of public bike systems. Linear regression analysis is used to estimate the usage of public bikes of Goyang city. The statistical analysis shows that the usage rate increases with average temperature and decreases under high wind (over 7m/s) or high temperature (over $29^{\circ}$) condition. The usage rate of public bike sharing system can be differentiated by locational characteristics of bike station such as residential area, commercial area, park, school, and metro station. The usage rate increases in park and commercial areas from 10 AM to 3 PM, while it increases in school areas from 3 PM to 5 PM. Public bikes are highly used near the metro station from 5 PM to 8 PM. The stations in parks are highly used in late night, and the usage rate in CBD area increases after the midnight.

When a berth is built close to a fairway, a moored vessel will be affected by the ship waves generated by navigating vessels. In this study, a portable measurement system was developed to measure the roll motion of an actual vessel, and the results were compared with simulation results. The simulation results showed that the roll motion satisfies the loading safety criteria. However, the actual results of the vessel, did not satisfy the criteria in some cases. In this study, 18 cases that did not satisfy the loading safety criteria were analyzed. Among these cases, three cases were affected by a different time zone of the remaining 15 cases, 11 cases (73.3%) were observed to be consistent with arrival times of passenger ships of more than 10,000GT sailing between in Mokpo and Jeju. The results of this study can be used to reflect marine traffic characteristics in the assessment of loading safety, which can increase the reliability of results of the loading safety assessment of ships.
The reliability of air quality evaluation results for green transportation could be improved by applying correct emission factors. Unlike previous studies, which estimated emission factors that focused on vehicles in laboratory experiments, this study investigates emission factors according to road types and time using real driving data. The real driving data was collected using a Portable Activity Monitoring System (PAMS) according to road types and time, which it compared and analyzed fuel consumption from collected data. The result of the study shows that fuel consumption on national highway is 17.33% higher than the fuel consumption on expressway. In addition, the average fuel consumption of peak time is 4.7% higher than that of non-peak time for 22.5km/h. The difference in fuel consumption for road types and time is verified using ANOCOVA and MANOVA. As a result, the hypothesis of this study - that fuel consumption differs according to road types and time, even if the travel speed is the same - has proved valid. It also suggests correction factor of emission factors by using the difference in fuel consumption. It is highly expected that this study can improve the reliability of emissions from mobile pollution sources.
Due to growing interests in the distribution of traffic volume through information dissemination such as VMS and traffic broadcasting system, the research on the driver's reaction and effect of the traffic report has continued. In this study, we propose a methodology, which estimates the traffic volume of diversion and the consequential diversion rate using FTMS data and TCS data, and the estimation is based on the analysis of the national highway and IC, in which real-time FTMS and TCS data are established. We also calculate the diversion rate of actual targeted sections and analyze the changes in time and spatial diversion rate. In this study, we define a deviation (considering a deviation due to dynamic properties of traffic conditions) found when the outflow traffic volume is temporarily higher than the average outflow traffic volume on a relevant time slot after providing traffic information. The diverting volume is considered to be caused by the traffic information, and the study determines the ratio of traffic volume on highways to that of route diversion as the diversion rate. The analysis on changes in the diversion rate in accordance with the time flow, the initial change in the diversion rate on upstream IC that first acquires the report on the traffic congestion is significant. After that, the change in the diversion rate on upstream IC affects the route diversion on downstream IC with spatial and time flow, and this again leads the change in upstream IC. Thereby, we confirmed that there is a feedback-control circulation system in the route diversion.

Weaving is defined as the crossing of two or more traffic streams traveling in the same general direction along a significant length of highway without the aid of traffic control devices. Compared with other freeway sections, perturbation is easy to happen at weaving section. Because there are a lot of lane-changing maneuvers at the weaving section, traffic is subject to turbulence in excess of that normally presents on freeway basic section. This turbulence causes operational problems and its impact must be considered. The purpose of this paper is to perform a basic study on flow characteristics by lane, which can be achieved through analyzing breakdown phenomenon in the microscopic approach. The study made use of data derived from the aerial photography for the microscopic analysis. This research produced the 30-second interval data such as flows, speeds, and densities for the macroscopic analysis and derived the vehicular data to draw time-space diagram for the microscopic analysis. The paper analyzed the traffic characteristics using flows, speeds and densities variation and investigated the conditions of breakdown occurrence with the time-space diagrams. The breakdown phenomenon was identified at weaving section and the propagation from free flow to synchronized flow was observed in this study. In the future, the findings help develop the traffic operational algorithm to manage the traffic congestion under ubiquitous circumstance since the conditions of breakdown Phenomenon can be understood more.

Recently, the Korean government promoted the construction of metropolitan express subway to connect major transportation hub in the metropolitan area within 30 minutes. Most stations of the metropolitan express subway are connected to existing subway stations, so the importance of transfer increased. Although many studies have been conducted on the effect of transfer penalty on route choice, there are few studies on the transfer behavior of the metropolitan express subway. Therefore, in this study, a transfer behavior analysis was conducted on the Shinbundang Line, a representative metropolitan express subway. To analyze the transfer behavior according to the degree of traffic congestion and the presence of fare payment, route choice models were made using transport card data divided according to week, time, and user characteristics. As a result of the analysis, users of the metropolitan express subway had greater disutility to the transfer waiting time compared to the transfer moving time. Furthermore, especially during the peak time, EIVM(Equivalent in-vehicle minutes) of the transfer waiting time was 3.51. In this study, EIVM for metropolitan express subway users were analyzed to be 2.6 minutes, which is significantly lower than the results of previous studies on subways. This suggests that there is a difference in the transfer penalty between subways and metropolitan express subway, and that it is necessary to apply the transfer penalty between subways and express subway differently when forecasting subway traffic demand.
This study aims to evaluate the availability of ABM (Active-Based Model), FEATHERS, as a policy evaluation tool. To achieve the goal, scenario analysis on flexible working policy was conducted to measure its impact on activity-travel behavior. As a consequence, there seems no significant change in worker's daily life, other than mitigating traffic congestion due to decreasing commuting travel in the rush hour. The result of VKT (vehicle kilometers traveled) shows an opposite pattern according to given household/individual constraints. The scenario analysis on telecommuting indicates a decreasing trend in both travel frequency and distance because of the diminished number of commuting trips. As the activity space of telecommuters is shifted to a residential area, there are more short-distance trips by using non-motorized transport, which leads to decrease in VKT (using a private vehicle). Thus, the sensitivity of VKT by population groups varies due to transport mode shift (between personal and another mode) and growing non-work trips (using a private mode). This study found few things. First, it is necessary to evaluate the details of policy impact by population groups since it can be varied depending on household/individual characteristics. Second, the case study shows a promising performance of ABM as policy measurement that provides reality in policy evaluation. Third, ABM allows us to do more accurate analysis (i.e. time-series analysis by population groups) of policy assessment than those of FSM (Four-Step Model). Lastly, a further effort in data collection, literature review, and expert survey should be made to enhance the accuracy and confidence of future research.
