The Study on Effects Caused by the Initial Queue to the Total Delay Estimation in Analyzing Signalized Intersection (신호교차로 분석시 초기대기행렬이 총지체도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study is aimed to analyze the overall effects of the additional delay caused by the vehicle in front of the queue, at the signal, to the total delay estimation. To estimate the average vehicle delay at the signalized intersection, as survey of the queue length at the intersection and traffic counts were conducted. As a result of this analysis, all of the three delay estimation methods turned out to be similar in that the estimation of the average delay for the test vehicle was less than 60 sec/vehicle. However, the average delay time for the vehicle in front of the queue only, was estimated at 60-70 sec/vehicle which is similar to the average delay of the test vehicle.

  • 신호화된 교차로의 운영비율을 측정하기 위해 현재 세계적으로 광범위하게 이용되 는 척도는 교차로 통과차량의 평균지체시간이다. 그간 교차로 분석을 위해 많은 대기행렬 모형이 발표되어 왔고 또 그중 일부가 현재 사용 중에 있는데 이들은 모두 steady-state를 가정한 해법이다. 그러나 steady-state 모형은 시간에 따른 대기행렬 길이의 변화를 고려하 지 못하므로 현실적인 분석에 한계가 있는 방법론이다. 그러므로 정당한 교차로 시간산출을 위해서는 time-dependent한 분석형의 개발이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 discrete Markov chain을 이용하여 단순히 단위시간 동안의 도착율과 출발율로써 transition probabilities를 계산하는 새로운 대기행렬 모형을 개발하였다. 개발된 불연속 대기행렬 모형을 이용하여 교 차로 분석을 할 경우 기존의 교차로 지체모형과 비교하여 기대되는 개선효과는 다음과 같 다. 변화를 고려한 dynamic한 분석으로 현실적이고 정당한 예측을 할 수 있다. 신호자동에 의한 영향을 분석할 수 있다. 그리고 독립적교차로 뿐만 아니라 간선도로, 나아가서 network 분석을 할 수 있으며, 동시에 주어지 교통여건에 대해 신호자동화를 위한 최적값을 산출해 낸다.

Optimal Signal Times for Active Bus Signal Priority on Median Bus Lane Using Deterministic Delay Model (중앙버스전용차로상에서 결정적 지체모형을 이용한 능동형 버스우선신호의 최적 신호시간 산출방안)

  • Bus signal priority is a name for various techniques to speed up bus public transport services at intersections with traffic signals. In this study propose methodology to optimize signal times for Early green, Green extension out of the active bus signal priority using deterministic delay model in isolated intersection on median bus lane. Fluctuation is found in the vehicle delay and person delay in the event that using this methodology redistributed to green time and checking slack green time is correct value by sensitivity analysis. As a result of the study, car delay is increased a little and person delay is decreased. As a result of slack green time sensitivity, delay is not much in it if variation of slack green time under 30%. But this methodology effectiveness is under claimed capacity if variation of slack green time over 30%.

Assessing Signalized Intersection Performance by Individual Lane Level Using Current HCM Methods and Software (기존 HCM 분석방법과 분석 소프트웨어를 이용한 신호교차로의 차로별 분석방법 연구)

  • Signalized intersection analysis using lane groups often generalizes distinct characteristics of individual lanes. An individual lane level analysis procedure is proposed. The method can assess individual lane LOS without additional data collection efforts. Analysis results of the proposed method were compared with the current HCM analysis results and outputs of aaSIDRA, which can calculate intersection performance lane-by-lane. The results showed individual lane analysis mostly produces similar results with HCM and aaSIDRA. However, lane analysis results for permitted left lanes showed some differences with aaSIRDRA due to the different method of assessing saturation flow rate of the permitted left turn movement. It is expected that the proposed method could complement the weaknesses of current HCM signalized intersection analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a traffic assignment model where the variable of signal intersection delay is taken into account in assigning traffic in large-scale network settings. Indeed, despite the fact that the majority of the increase in travel time or cost involving congested urban network or interrupted flow are accounted for by stop delays or congested delays at signal intersections, the existing traffic assignment models did not reflect this. The traffic assignment model considering intersection delays presented in this study was built based on the existing traffic assignment models, which were added to by the analysis technique for the computation of intersection delay provided in Korea Highway Capacity Manual. We can conclude that a multiple variety of simulation tests prove that this model can be applied to real network settings. Accordingly, this model shows the possibility of utilizing a model considering intersection delay for traffic policy decisions through analysis of effects of changes in traffic facilities on large urban areas.

Static Optimization Model for Congested Signalized Intersections (혼잡 신호교통로 제어를 위한 최적화 모형 개발)

  • 지난 수십년간 수많은 신호교차로제어모형이 제시되어 왔으나 과포화교차로를 특별히 다루는 기법은 거의 없었다. 본고에서는 과포화상태의 신호교차로제어를 위한 최적화모형이 제시된다. 지체도최소화나 연동폭최대화가 전통적인 제어목표로 사용되어 왔으나 혼잡교차로 제어에는 생산성최대화(maximum productivity)가 적절하며 본 모형에 사용되었다. 제시된 최적화모형은 Mixed Integer Linear Programming의 형태를 취한다. 본 모형은 두 개의 교차로 문제에 적용되었으며, 모형화 과정에 사용된 가정들의 적절함이 민감도분석에 의해 증명되었다. 최적해의 검증을 위하여 microscopic simulation model인 TRAF-NETSIM을 사용하였다.

The Study on the Determination of Level of Service of Signalized Intersection in KHCM and USHCM 2000 (한국 도로용량편람과 미국 HCM 2000의 신호교차로 서비스수준 결정에 관한 고찰)

  • 신호교차로의 서비스수준은 미국의 HCM 방식을 전세계적으로 준용하고 있으며, 우리나라도 1985년 미국 HCM을 기본으로 하여 우리나라의 특성을 반영한 보정계수 값들을 수정하여 지금까지 사용하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 하지만 한국 도로용량편람의 모태가 된 미국 HCM은 이미 94년 1차 수정판에 이어, 이를 더욱 보완해서 HCM 2000을 발간하여 실용화 단계에 있는 반면 92년에 발간된 한국도로용량편람은 발간 이후 빠른 속도로 변화해온 국내의 교통, 도로, 차량 특성과 다양해진 도로시설 유형의 변화를 신호교차로 서비스수준 분석에 적절히 반영하지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 신호교차로 서비스수준 결정에 관한 연구의 기초작업으로 기존의 신호교차로 서비스수준 분석방법의 문제점을 보완하기 위한 새로운 분석방법론을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 한국 도로용량 편람과 미국 HCM 2000의 서비스수준 분석방법론 부분을 면밀히 비교 분석하고 두 나라의 지체식에 포함된 공통적인 변수(주기(C), 포화도(v/c), 용량(c), 녹색시간비(g/C))에 대한 민감도 분석과 미국 HCM 2000에 추가로 도입된 변수들에 대한 민감도 분석을 수행함으로서 한국 도로용량 편람의 문제점을 고찰하고 운전자의 행태나 도로의 기하조건이 외국의 경우와는 다른 우리나라 실정을 반영한 한국형 신호 교차로 서비스수준 정립 방안의 필요성을 제시하였다.

Analysis of Traffic Delays at Scramble Crosswalks Considering Signal Phase Sequence and Traffic Volume (신호현시 순서와 통행량을 고려한 대각선 횡단보도 지체도 분석)

  • This study compared the delays of scramble crosswalks and general crosswalks, considering the pedestrian and vehicle traffic at intersections. Based on the signal theory, this study used traffic delays as a measure of feasibility of installing scramble crosswalks. The road structure and length of signal lights were assumed to be specific numbers to calculate the delays in vehicles and pedestrians. With the computed delays, this study compared general crosswalks and scramble crosswalks, and evaluated the feasibility sections on the installation of scramble crosswalks using circular and non-circular signal phases, respectively. The analysis confirmed that the introduction of scramble crosswalks might be more appropriate when the traffic ratio on the main roads is high. In addition, the application of non-circular signal phases is more proper for the operation of scramble crosswalks than circular signal phases. In the non-circular signaling system, however, it was shown that diagonal crosswalks might not be practical if the demand for diagonal crossing is too low. These results are expected to contribute to the development of basic guidelines for assessing the installment feasibility of scramble crosswalks in terms of traffic operation and efficiency.

An Analysis of the Vehicular Delay Caused by Scrambled Crosswalk Installation in a Roundabout (회전교차로에서 대각선횡단보도 설치에 따른 차량의 지체도 분석)

  • This study examines a way to install a crosswalk that can improve pedestrians' convenience and safety and that goes beyond the crosswalk design standard of existing roundabouts. When a scrambled crosswalk, one of the crosswalk installation methods, is introduced to the roundabout system, it shortens the cross-walking distance of pedestrians and thus enhances convenience. Although the installation of a scrambled crosswalk may enhance pedestrians' convenience, it may obstruct vehicular traffic. Thus, this study presents standards for reasonable diagonal crosswalk installation based on the investigation on its effects on a vehicle's delay time. This study includes an analysis of the various geometric structures of roundabouts. The study results show that as v/c and the number of pedestrians increased, the delay time after the installation of a scrambled crosswalk increased although the extent was different. In general, the effect of the installation of a scrambled crosswalk was insignificant regardless of the number of pedestrians when v/c was under 0.6. When the number of pedestrians was 300/hour or lower, the difference in the delay time was quite insignificant regardless of v/c. In addition, as the inscribed circle of the roundabout was larger, the difference in the delay time decreased depending on v/c and the number of pedestrians.

A Simplified Analytical Method for the Capacity and Level of Service of Signalized Intersections (신호교차로 용량 및 서비스수준에 대한 간략적 분석방법(4갈래 교차로 비포화 상태를 대상으로))

  • The KHCM procedure is a micro level analysis at signalized intersections requiring a lot of input variables and complex computations. The research was to investigate the possibility of simplifying the analysis procedures by using the generalized or the combined variables that less influence on the adjusted traffic volume and through-car equivalents of left or right turns. It was also tried to make lane grouping into directional flow ratio(v/s) based on a field surveys. The maximum and minimum values of each variables were compared with each other through the KHCM analysis procedures in terms of control delay. The lane grouping and the synthetical influence of a simplified method was evaluated with the scenario built in prevailing maximum and minimum conditions. The study showed that the control delay was not significantly sensitive to the selected variables and the lane grouping and their synthetical influence as well.
