Development of Bridge Inspection Reliability and Improvement Strategy (교량 점검신뢰도 분석법 개발과 향상방안)

  • The present study proposed three inspection reliability indices which compared inspection results evaluated at in-depth(routine) inspection and in-depth safety inspection; Nominal inspection reliability index, Real inspection reliability index, and DS nominal inspection reliability index. The methods to improve the inspection reliability were also proposed. Since bridge inspection process is critical to ensuring the safety of bridges and identifying repair and maintenance needs, the quality of the inspection data produced from the inspection process is very important. Consequently, the inspection reliability indices were suggested to evaluate quality of current inspection practices. Specifically, approximately 85% of inspection errors evaluated by the DS nominal inspection reliability index are within 1 rating grade(equal to or less than damage score ${\pm}0.1$). In order to improve the inspection reliability, transportation agency should implement QC(Quality Control) practices and develop professional expertises of inspectors by higher requirements for inspectors, on-off line inspection training and etc.

  • To utilize building information modeling (BIM) technology at the bridge maintenance stage, it is necessary to integrate large quantities of bridge inspection and model data for object-oriented information management. This research aims to establish the benefits of utilizing the extended industry foundation class (IFC)-BIM and ontology for bridge inspection information management. The IFC entities were extended to represent the bridge objects, and a method of generating the extended IFC-based information model was proposed. The bridge inspection ontology was also developed by extraction and classification of inspection concepts from the AASHTO standard. The classified concepts and their relationships were mapped to the ontology based on the semantic triples approach. Finally, the extended IFC-based BIM model was integrated with the ontology for bridge inspection data management. The effectiveness of the proposed framework for bridge inspection information management by integration of the extended IFC-BIM and ontology was tested and verified by extracting bridge inspection data via the SPARQL query.

Cable-supported Bridge Safety Inspection Blind Spot Elimination Technology using Drones (드론을 활용한 케이블지지교량 안전점검 사각지대 해소 기술)

  • In the case of special bridges whose superstructure is supported by cables, there are many blind spots that are difficult to access without special equipment and personnel. As a result, there are difficulties in the safety inspection of special bridges. The purpose of this study is to review the inspection blind spots of cable-supported bridges such as cable-stayed bridges and suspension bridges, and to study ways to eliminate blind spots using drones. To this end, the cables, stiffened girder, and pylons of the cable-stayed bridge located in the sea were inspected using drones. Through this study, it was confirmed that external safety inspection of special bridges that are difficult for inspectors to access is possible using drones. In particular, drone inspection to check the external condition and damage of the pylon, which is a blind spot for inspection of special bridges, is a very effective safety inspection method.

  • This paper aims to propose an image processing technique for measuring the static displacement of bridges from general inspection photograph; the color, shape, and spatial transformations of an arbitrary image stored in bridge management system database are used. This study is verified by using numerical analyses with experiments; the results demonstrate that the static displacement of bridges are measured by proposed technique. Moreover, this technique is able to obtain the static structural response of the bridge with changes in temperatures.

Highway Bridge Inspection Period Based on Risk Assessment (위험도평가에 의한 고속도로 교량의 점검주기)

  • Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Period was proposed for highway bridges in Korea. Hazard factors affecting bridge condition deterioration were found by analyzing condition data from Highway Bridge Management System (HBMS). Certain level of correlations between those factors and condition deterioration were found. They are used to evaluate hazard score. Summarizing several hazard factors, final hazard is classified as three level;high, moderate, low. Vulnerability is assessed only by the current state of bridge. Then, risk matrix is suggested for inspection periods. Inspection periods of the bridges with grade C, D, and E are maintained the same as before. But, those of grade A and B with moderate and high hazard score are elongated to maximum 6 years while the maximum inspection period is three years at present. By adjusting inspection period according to risk assessment, it was shown that 27% of average inspection manpower can be saved.

A Study on Improvement of Inspection Activity Based upon Condition Analysis of Expressway Bridges (고속도로 교량의 상태 분석에 근거한 점검 활동 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, detailed safety inspection reports on the 915 expressway bridges which had been published from 1996 to 2010 are collected and condition of these bridges are analyzed. Damages are categorized into 'damage by defect', 'damage by physical force', and 'damage by deterioration' and the concept of damage possession rate is introduced to investigate the occurrence time and the characteristics of damages. Based on the top 10 damage patterns of expressway bridges and the deterioration characteristics of heavy snow and freezing cold area, reasonable improvement direction of inspection activity is suggested. From this study, it is known that improvement of inspection regularization during construction or at completion stage of bridges is needed. Since the deterioration progress of the heavy snow and freezing cold area is faster than that of general area, environmental characteristics should be considered in inspection activity. The results of present study can be widely used for improvement of inspection activity of expressway bridges.

  • 교량유지관리 업무는 교량의 건설(신설), 노후교량의 개축, 교통량 증가에 따른 교량의 확장, 보수를 통한 원상복구, 또한 보수기록의 보관문제, 기존교량의 계속적인 점검 및 조사 등으로 분류된다. 이러한 문제를 전산화 하는 것은 필요항목들을 특성별로 분류하여 각 항목 등에 대한 데이타베이스를 구축하고 교량의 점검 및 조사 등을 통하여 교량의 손상상태를 파악함은 물론 개축, 보수, 확장, 신설 등에 대한 판정 및 그 우선순위를 제시하여 주는 의사결정시스템 개발이다. 본 고에서는 교량관리업무를 전산화하기 위해 한국건설기술연구원에서 개발한 교량관리용 DB(DATA BASE)시스템에 대하여 간략히 소개하고자 한다.

  • 고도성장 당시 건축되었던 사회기반시설들은 노후화로 인한 안전사고의 위험성이 부각되고 있다. 사회기반시설 중 교량의 경우 건축방식, 기후에 따른 안전점검 간 제약사항이 생긴다. 본 논문에서는 드론을 통해 점검이 필요한 교량을 촬영한다. 교량의 촬영 데이터를 정합 이미지로 생성하여 교량 내 유지보수를 위한 교량 모니터링 시스템을 제안한다.

  • Bridge Control and Inspection ensures the safety, utility, and durability of Bridge in use. This Paper compares Control-interval of Germany with that of Korea, which was described in the special law recently revised concerning the Safety Checkup of Facilities, and analyzes Period of Damage Discovery that the Damage report of other countries showed. According to a result of the analysis, damage requiring structure repair and reinforcement more frequently been discovered even in less than a decade after the completion of construction. The paper, therefore, suggested the reregulation on the Korean Control Interval on the basis of the result.
