Preparation and Photocatalytic Effect of Brookite Phase TiO2 Colloidal Sol for Thin Film Coating (Brookite TiO2 코팅용 졸의 제조 및 광촉매 효과)

  • Transparent TiO$_{2}$ sols were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis to heat Ti precursor solutions, from Ti hydroxides obtained with neutralizing aqueous TiOCl$_{2}$ solutions having various concentrations of NaCI by aqueous NaOH solution, in the autoclave at 120$^{\circ}C$ The photocatalytic abilities of glass beads coated with the sol for gaseous benzene were evaluated. As a result, it was found that due to the increase of brookite phase in TiO$_{2}$ by controlling the concentration of Na ion the optical absorption of TiO$_{2}$ increases toward long wavelength but that in the area of short wavelength becomes relatively low and consequently the photocatalytic performance of TiO$_{2}$ thin film for benzene gas rather decreases, compared to that of composite film of anatase and brookite phases. These results suggest that in order for coated TiO$_{2}$ thin film to have high dissociation performance for benzene gas it is effective to form anatase and brookite phases compositely in TiO$_{2}$.

  • Transition-metal oxide semiconductors have various band gaps. Therefore, many studies have been conducted in various application fields. Among these, methods for the adsorption of organic dyes and utilization of photocatalytic properties have been developed using various metal oxides. In this study, the adsorption and photocatalytic effects of $WO_3$ nanomaterials prepared by hydrothermal synthesis are investigated, with citric acid added in the hydrothermal process as a structure-directing agent. The nanostructures of $WO_3$ are studied using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy images. The crystal structure is investigated using X-ray diffraction patterns, and the changes in the dye concentrations adsorbed on $WO_3$ nanorods are measured with a UV-visible absorption spectrophotometer based on Beer-Lambert's law. The methylene blue (MB) dye solution is subjected to acid or base conditions to monitor the change in the maximum adsorption amount in relation to the pH. The maximum adsorption capacity is observed at pH 3. In addition to the dye adsorption, UV irradiation is carried out to investigate the decomposition of the MB dye as a result of photocatalytic effects. Significant photocatalytic properties are observed and compared with the adsorption effects for dye removal.

  • $SnO_2$-doped $TiO_2$ powder was obtained from tin (IV) bis(acetylacetonate) dichloride and titanium diisopropoxide bis(acetylacetonate) with quinacridone as the dye sensitizer molecule.   • $CNT/TiO_2$ composites were prepared by using multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and various titanium alkoxide precursors. The composites were comprehensively characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The photoactivity of the prepared materials under UV irradiation, was tested using the conversion of MB from model aqueous solution. Finally, according to the results of methylene blue (MB) removal experiment, we could see that sample CTOS have better MB removal effect than samples CTIP and CTPP.

  • Thermal stabilizing effect of $Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ codoping into $TiO_2$ powder prepared by sol-gel method and its upconversion characteristics were analyzed. The effect of $TiO_2:Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ ions on crystallinity and phase transition was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The change of band-gap energy induced from Yb and Er codoping was analyzed by UV-Vis. The band-gap energy of $TiO_2$ have been slightly narrowed by $Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ codoping, which indicated that the $Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ ions can enhance the photo-catalytic property of $TiO_2$. green and red up-conversions of $Yb^{3+}$ and $Er^{3+}$ co-doped $Y_2O_3:Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ phosphor were analyzed by PL equipped with 980 nm laser.

  • 총인처리시설에서는 응집제를 주입하여 인이나 오염물질을 침전시켜 처리하고 있으며 PAC(poly aluminum chloride)나 $FeCl_3$, $Al_2(SO_4)_3$, 등 다양한 종류의 응집제가 사용되어지고 있다. 하지만 기존에 사용되어 지고 있는 알루미늄계열의 응집제는 처리수에 잔류이온이 존재하게 되어 인체에 축적돼 알츠하이머 병 등 신체질환을 유발할 수 있는 단점이 있다. 따라서 이러한 단점을 사전에 예방하기 위해 $TiCl_4$와 같은 티타늄계열 응집제에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. $TiCl_4$ 응집제는 인 제거에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있으며 수중에 잔류이온을 유발하지 않으며 Ti이온은 치과임플란트나 의료장비로 사용될 만큼 인체에 무해하다고 알려져 있다. 응집제 사용에 따라 생성된 응집슬러지의 처리방안에 있어서 기존 응집제의 경우 생성된 슬러지의 대부분은 하수슬러지 위탁처리업체를 통해 소각 및 매립, 재활용 되고 있으나, $TiCl_4$를 응집제로 사용할 경우 생성된 슬러지를 인발하여 건조 및 소성을 통해 이산화티타늄으로 재활용할 수 있어 슬러지를 친환경적으로 처리가 가능해 기존 슬러지 처리방안의 경제적, 환경적 부담을 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 $TiCl_4$를 하수처리장 방류수에 주입하여 수중의 총인(T-P)을 처리한 후 생성된 슬러지를 인발하여 건조와 소성과정을 거쳐 이산화티타늄을 제조하였다. 방류수를 취수해 2.5mg/L의 초기 총인 농도를 가진 원수를 제조하였으며 제조된 원수에 $TiCl_4$를 0.6mL 주입하였을 때 99.93%의 총인제거효율을 얻을 수 있었다. 응집 실험 후 생성된 슬러지를 인발하여 건조 후 $300{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$의 각각 다른 온도조건에서 소성하여 이산화티타늄을 제조하였으며, SEM과 XRD를 통해 제조된 이산화티타늄의 표면특성과 결정성 분석을 실시하였다. 제조된 이산화티타늄은 $500{\sim}800^{\circ}C$에서는 아나타제, $900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$에서는 루타일 결정구조가 나타났다. 또한, $TiCl_4$ 주입량에 따른 이산화티타늄의 최종 생산량과 제조 시 사용되는 건조로 및 소성로의 경제적 비용 등을 고려하여 이산화티타늄 1Ton을 제조하기 위해 필요한 단가를 산출하였다. 본 연구에서 제조된 이산화티타늄 1kg의 생산단가는 약 5,400원으로 나타났으며, 가장 많이 사용되는 P-25 광촉매 보다 저렴한 가격으로 제조 및 판매를 기대할 수 있다. 따라서 하수처리장에 적용 시 기존 응집제 보다 비싼 $TiCl_4$ 비용을 보완하고 친환경적인 슬러지 처리로 제조된 이산화티타늄의 유통 및 현장적용을 통해 경제적, 환경적으로 우수하다고 판단된다.

Photocatalytic effect for the carbon-coated TiO2 prepared from different heat treatment temperature (열처리 온도에 따라 제조된 탄소 코팅된 TiO2에 대한 광촉매 효과)

  • Carbon-coated $TiO_2$ was prepared by $CCl_4$ solvent mixing method with different heat treatment temperature (HTT). Since the carbon layers derived from pitch on the $TiO_2$ particles were porous, the carbon-coated $TiO_2$ sample series showed a good adsorptivity and photo decomposition activity. The BET surface area was decreased by the increasing of the heat treatment temperature. The SEM results present to the characterization of surface texture on the carbon-coated $TiO_2$ sample and carbon distributions on the surfaces for all the materials used. The main elements of C, O and Ti were shown from EDX spectra. And the quantity of these elements is very rich in the samples. From XRD data, the pristine anatase peaks were observed in the X-ray diffraction patterns for the carbon-coated $TiO_2$ at the different HTTs. However, the rutile peaks were observed for the carbon-coated $TiO_2$ at HTT of 1073 K and 1123 K. Finally, the excellent photocatalytic activity of carbon-coated $TiO_2$ with UV-vis spectra between absorbance and time could be attributed to the homogeneous coated carbon on the external surface and structural phase transform, and the photocatalytic activity was decreased by the increasing of the HTT.

Accelerating effect of some photosensitizers on photodegradation of the herbicide quinclorac in aqueous solution and soil (감광제에 의한 수용액 및 토양 중 제초제 quinclorac의 광분해 촉진효과)

  • In order to artificially reduce the quinclorac residue in aqueous solution and soil, six potential photosensitizers were screened for their effectiveness in enhancing the photodegradation. The degraded amount of quinclorac in distilled water by sunlight was minor compared to that in the dark, indicating that there was little direct photolysis. The photodegradation ratio of quinclorac in methanol was 40.3%. Whereas, the ratios in the presence of photosensitizers PS-1 (aromatic ketone), PS-3 (polycyclic quinone), and PS-6 (inorganic semiconductor) were 96.6, 72.7, and 95.7%, respectively, showing the most photosensitizing effects. In sand, PS-3 was more effective than any other photosensitizer PS-1 (19.6%), PS-3 (64.1%) and PS-6 ($17.9{\sim}19.4%$). five photoproducts of quinclorac in methanol were identified by GC-MS and quinclorac added with the photosensitizer PS-1 gave three photoproducts. Photoproducts with an aldehyde group formed in methanol were confirmed by the reduction of sodium 3,5-dinitrosalicylate in the Lindsay's method. E. crus-galli war. oryzicola was not controlled by the quinclorac residues photodegraded at tile concentrations higher than 30 ppm of the photosensitizer PS-3 in a flooded rice paddy soil. These results indicate that the quinclorac residues in aqueous solution and soil can be degraded efficiently by tile photosensitizers PS-1, PS-3, and PS-6.

The Study of Plate Powder Coated Nano Sized ZnO Synthesis and Effect of Sensory Texture Improvement (나노 ZnO 입자가 코팅된 판상 분체의 합성과 사용감 증진 효과에 대한 연구)

  • Nano sized ZnO particle as 20-30nm applies for material, pigments, rubber additives, gas sensors, varistors, fluorescent substance as well as new material such as photo-catalyst, sensitizer, fluorescent material. ZnO with a particle size in the range 20-30nm has provided to be an excellent UV blocking material in the cosmetics industry, which can be used in sunscreen product to enhance the sun protection factor and natural makeup effect. But pure ZnO particles application limits for getting worse wearing feeling. We make high-functional inorganic-composite that coated with nano-ZnO on the plate-type particle such as sericite, boron nitride and bismuthoxychloride. In this experiment, we synthesized composite powder using hydrothermal precipitation method. The starting material was ZnCl$_2$ Precipitation materials were used hexamethylenetetramine(HMT) and urea. We make an experiment with changing as synthesis factors that are concentrations of starting material, precipitation materials, nuclear formation material, reaction time, and reaction temperature. We analyzed composite powder's shape, crystallization and UV-blocking ability with FE-SEM, XRD, FT-IR, TGA-DTA, In vitro SPF test. The user test was conducted by product's formulator. In the results of this study, nanometer sized ZnD was coated regardless of the type of plate-powder at fixed condition range. When the coated plate-powders were applied in pressed powder product, the glaze of powder itself decreased, but natural make-up effect, spreadability, and adhesionability were increased.

The Removal of Humic Acid and Heavy Metals Using UV/TiO2/H2O2 (UV/TiO2/H2O2 공정을 이용한 휴믹산과 중금속 제거)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the application of $UV/TiO_2/H_2O_2$ process for treating humic acid and heavy metals in surface water. Removal efficiency of $UV/TiO_2/H_2O_2$ process was much more efficient than that of $UV/TiO_2$ process for humic acid and heavy metals removal. The removal rate of humic acid and heavy metals increased with the increase of $TiO_2$ dosage and UV intensity, however decreased with more than 0.3 g/L of $TiO_2$ dosage. The addition of $H_2O_2$ as an oxidant was a positive effect for the removal rate of humic acid and heavy metals especially in the concentration of 50 mg/L $H_2O_2$.
