Identification Model Development for Gifted Students Based on Class Observations and Nominations (영재학급 대상자 선발을 위한 관찰.추천 영재판별모형 개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an identification model for gifted students, based on class observations and nominations. The definition, issues and methods of identification were examined to achieve the research goal. Gifted identification model based on class observations and nominations consists of 4 steps: The first is the collection of multidimensional information on students, and the second is the evaluation of the students' portfolios with the rubric that has the criteria of rating scales on each information. At the third, students are observed in the class. Then the students are interviewed for the evaluation of their cognitive and non-cognitive characteristics. At the fourth, the identification committee makes a final decision for the selection of gifted students, after considering all the results from the steps. This model will be helpful to identify gifted students who are regarded to have potential abilities, especially economically disadvantaged students.

  • In the current information-based society, information and communication technology(ICT) is very important for an individual, a society, and a nation. Especially, for a nation, ICT-related industries are forming an important part of a nation's economy. Also, unlike other industries, ICT-related industries do not require various infrastructures, and have an advantage of being developed with a few talented persons in a short period of time. In this sense, identification and education of gifted children in IT become an essential task of a nation's future. In the past, selection of the gifted children was based on paper tests. However, paper tests incurred various side effects such as private education. Since 2013, observation-recommendation system instead of paper tests has been fully adopted. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the validity of observation-recommendation admission system of the gifted children in IT. For this research purpose, the gifted children in gifted science education center attached in a university at Seoul become the focus of the samples. Their entrance score ranking and graduation record raking are compared for analysis of validity of admission system. After statistical analysis, there is a meaningful correlation between entrance score ranking and graduation record ranking for the gifted children in IT. It means that the higher entrance score ranking, the higher graduation record ranking. The analysis results are expected to be valuable baseline data for deciding usefulness of observation-recommendation admission system.

An Analysis of Elementary School Teachers' Identification Criteria and Nominations of Gifted Students (관찰추천 과정에서 초등학교 교사가 인식하는 영재학생 판별기준과 추천요인 분석)

  • What are the identification criteria elementary school teachers prefer? What are the characteristics of students that teachers consider when nominating them to gifted programs? Will those criteria of identification/nomination differ as to teacher experiences related to gifted education or teacher involvement in the professional development? This study aims to find the answer to these questions. For this purpose, a total of 511 elementary school teachers with a varying degree of experiences with gifted education were recruited from 23 schools in 11 school districts in Seoul. The results show that teachers generally preferred task commitment, creativity, curiosity, and domain specific talents as criteria for identifying gifted students, while perceiving achievement records, total grades, leadership, and general intelligence as less important. Teachers experienced in gifted education or having been involved in professional development perceived curiosity, task commitment, and creativity as more important than teachers without such experiences. The importance-performance analysis of identification criteria indicates that teachers reported high importance on task commitment, curiosity, and creativity, but those factors were less considered in actual nomination. On the contrary, teachers reported low importance on quick learning and achievement(total grades, subject grades), but those were highly considered in nomination. A similar pattern was found in both experienced and nonexperienced teachers although the importance-performance gap was higher for the latter. Implications for teacher nominations and professional development were discussed.

  • 추천 시스템 연구들 중 사용자의 추천 만족도와 플랫폼의 이윤 측면을 함께 고려한 여러 연구들이 제안되어 왔다. 그런데 그동안 플랫폼의 이윤을 고려한 추천 시스템의 경우 방법들 간 분석 및 성능 비교가 되어오지 않았다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 기존 이윤 고려 추천 시스템들의 방법을 분석하고, 실 세계 데이터셋을 이용한 실험을 통해 추천 정확도 및 플랫폼 이윤 측면에서 이들간의 성능을 비교하였다. 그 결과, 추천 정확도와 플랫폼 이윤 간의 상충 관계가 있음을 확인할 수 있었고, 이윤 고려 추천 시스템 방법들이 이윤을 고려하지 않은 일반적인 추천 방법 대비 7~35%의 플랫폼 이윤 향상 효과가 있음을 관찰할 수 있었다.

Development of a Gifted Behavior Checklist Based on the Observation Probability and Importance of the Behavior in Class (관찰가능성과 중요도를 고려한 관찰·추천용 초등 영재 행동 특성 체크리스트 개발)

  • This research focuses on the development of gifted child behavior checklist which feasibly has application on the nation-wide gifted children observation-recommendation method. Corresponding measure has significance as it reflects actual observations of teachers teaching gifted children first-hand and involves measure of importance regarding each characteristic. An open survey on gifted children behavior characteristics lists and specific behavior patterns has been acquired from teachers in gifted education, and the checklist was developed through expert group review, pre-test, and confirmatory factor analysis process. The former checklists have shown several difficulties on application of observation-recommendation on the field due to behaviors that can't be observed in school, less important behaviors, and collide and duplicate behaviors etc. With regard to such problems, problematic clauses were removed based on the observation probability and importance of the behaviors. Ultimately, total of 32 behavior characteristic checklist consisting of ten sub factors(logical thinking, high achievement, originality, perfectionism, creative problem solving, curiosity, task commitment, conversation ability, creativity, passion) and two to three questions on each factor had been drawn. Through internal consistency test and item-total score correlation, each item of the measure has been analyzed to be consistently evaluating corresponding variables. In addition, the result of confirmatory factor analysis showed every item to be weighed appropriately on its sub-factor, strongly suggesting its feasibility on observation-recommendation of elementary gifted children as an appropriate checklist.

A Study on the Development of the Recommendation Tools through Performance Assessment for Mathematically Gifted Students (수학 영재 관찰.추천 도구의 개발과 모의 적용 사례 연구)

  • Previous studies reported that gifted students' capacity on mathematics had high correlations with results of the performance assessment. However, there have been few studies that develop recommending tools through the assessment that can be used to identify mathematically gifted students or analyse their applications. Then it is difficult to use them to identify mathematically gifted students practically. Therefore, this study developed the tasks and evaluation tables for the tools. And one of them was applied for four students in Grade 1 of a middle school to simulate the assessment and characteristics assessment teachers showed were analysed. As the results, the extensive and specific information on the giftedness of the students was obtained through using the tool. The gifted capacity grasped from the order, speed, and attitudes of problem-solving was identified as observing the process of solving the task.

  • 추천 엔진의 지속적인 성능 향상을 위해서는 객관적 성능 평가가 이루어져야 하지만, 콘텐츠 추천 기술은 평가 데이터 구축이 어렵고 평가를 위한 심도 깊은 연구가 이루어지지 못하여 많은 어려움을 가지고 있다. 본 논문은 콘텐츠 추천 시스템의 객관적인 평가를 시스템 구축에 대한 연구이다. 추천 알고리즘의 효율적이고 객관적인 성능 평가를 위하여 기존 연구들을 분석하여 대표적인 성능평가 양식들을 구현하였다. 통계적인 평가를 위한 사용자 데이터를 수집하였으며 데이터 크기, 평가방식, 추천 알고리즘의 모듈 별 성능 추이를 쉽게 변경하고 관찰할 수 있도록 인터페이스를 설계하였다. 이러한 평가 시스템의 도입으로 콘텐츠 추천 알고리즘의 지속적인 성능 보완을 기대 할 수 있을 것이다.

  • 기하급수적으로 증가하는 인터넷의 정보량에서 최적의 정보를 찾고자 하는 사용자의 요구가 증가함에 따라 개별적 사용자에게 필요한 정보만을 제공하는 것이 필요하다. 이러한 사용자의 요구를 충족시키기 위해 사용자의 행동을 관찰하고 학습하여 사용자 대신 문서를 수집하는 웹 문서 추천 에이전트의 필요성이 대두되었다. 본 논문에서는 웹 문서 추천에이전트에서 사용되는 프로파일을 효과적으로 생성하고 학습하기 위한 문서 표현 방법, 특징 선택법을 제안한다. 제안된 문서 표현 방법은 슬라이딩 윈도우 방법을 통해 인접한 단어쌍의 문맥 정보를 이용하고, 의존 구조를 이용하며 사용자의 관심 변화에 빨리 적응 할 수 있도록 시간에 대한 가중치를 반영한다. 제안된 방법으로 프로파일을 구성한 웹 문서 추천 에이전트는 사용자의 관심 분야를 효과적으로 반영하고 관심 변화에 빨리 적응하여 사용자에게 알맞은 문서를 추천한다.

  • 협업필터링은 지금까지 많은 추천시스템 연구에서 비교대상이 되거나 더 좋은 추천시스템 방법론을 개발하기 위해서 응용되고 있다. 일반적으로 협업필터링 기법은 명시적으로 관찰된 사용자들의 행동을 기반하는 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 LDA(Latent Dirichlet Allocation)을 이용해 사용자와 추천 대상이 되는 아이템의 숨겨진 특성을 추출하고, 이를 협업필터링기법에 응용했다. 영화 추천시스템 구축을 위한 실험에서, 사용자의 선호도는 다양한 영화 장르를 선호하는 비율로 나타난다는 가정(사용자기반)과 영화 또한 장르의 비율로 표현이 된다는 가정(아이템기반)을 했다. 이러한 가정을 토대로 사용자 사이와 영화 사이 간의 유사도를 정의하고, 협업필터링에 적용했을 때, 전통적인 협업필터링 기법보다 뛰어난 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 급속하게 확산된 비즈니스 웹 사이트로 인해 웹상에 상품의 정보가 기하급수적으로 증가하여 정보 과부하 문제가 발생하였다. 이를 극복하기 위해 내용 기반 추천 시스템, 협업 필터링 추천 시스템 등의 개인화 추천 시스템이 발전했으나 사용자의 성향과 아이템의 성향을 반영하지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 웹상에서 사용자의 행동을 관찰하여 상품의 구매경로와 판매의 상관관계에 따라 각 사용자의 성향과 그룹의 성향, 아이템의 성향을 측정한 뒤 벡터의 내적을 이용하여 사용자의 성향에 가장 적합한 상품의 유사도를 계산하고 추천하는 시스템을 제안한다.
