Using Mixed Logit Model and Latent Class Model to Analyze Preference Heterogeneity in Choice Experiment Data (선택실험법 자료에서의 선호이질성 분석을 위한 혼합로짓모형 및 잠재계층모형의 활용)

  • Conditional Logit (CL) model is widely used since its model estimation and interpretation of results of the model is relatively easy, on the other hand, it has the limit of preference heterogeneity of respondents being not fully considered. In this study we used the two models, Mixed Logit (ML) Model and Latent Class Model (LCM) to explain preference heterogeneity of respondents for protection for Boryeong Dam wetland. As a result of the examination for heterogeneity in Boryeong city and six metropolitan areas, we found there was significant difference between two regions. While there was explicit preference heterogeneity within respondents in Boryeong city, we found little heterogeneity within respondents in six metropolitan areas. Thus in the case of six metropolitan areas, CL model can be used for parameter estimation while in the case of Boryeong city, WTP estimates are based on parameter estimates from ML model to reflect the heterogeneity within respondents. Additionally, ML model with interaction and 2-class LCM for respondents in Boryeong city were used to explain the sources of the heterogeneity. The ML model with interaction has advantage of explaining individual unobserved heterogeneity. However The comarison between these two models reflects the fact that LCM provided added information that was not conveyed in the ML model with interaction. Thus, Preference heterogeneity within respondents in this study may be better explained by class level through LCM rather than indiviual level through ML model.

무미 양서류의 치사종간 핵치환 개체의 염색체 이상과 발생 능력에 관한 연구

  • 포배단계의 북미산 표범개구리 Rana pipiens의 핵을 국내종 북방산개구리 Rana dybowskii의 무핵난에 이식하여 형성되는 nucleocytoplasmic hybrid 개체는 초기 낭배시기를 전후하여 치사하는 조합임이 핵치환 실험에 의하여 밝혀졌다. 이들의 치사원인이 이질세포질의 존재에 의한 일시적 현상인지 또는 발생도중 핵내에 일어난 영구적 변화에 의한 것인지를 조사하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 치사직전 개체의 염색체를 분석한 결과, 염색체의 수와 염색체의 일부분에 구조적 이상이 다양하게 관찰되었다. 따라서 이질세포질에서 DNA의 이상복제가 진행되었음을 나타내고 있으며 그 결과 비정상적 염색체를 가진 할구의 형성과 부분 난할등이 유발되어 결국 치사하는 것으로 사료된다. 또한 nuclocytoplasmic 개체의 lethality 는 정상개체와의 접촉에 의해 교정되지 않는 조직의 내적 특성임이 hybrid의 조직을 정상 embryo로 이식시킨 실험을 통해 명확히 밝혀졌다.

Why have Marriages been Delayed? (왜 결혼이 늦어지는가?)

  • In this paper we try to explain delays in one's first marriage that are observed in contemporary society by accounting for possible factors that may play a substantial role in delaying marriages. Discrete-time survival analysis with unobserved heterogeneity was employed. The result indicates that the odds of getting married compared to odds of not getting married are 0.91 times, i.e. 8.5% lower for women with bachelor's degree than women with high school diploma or below. The odds of getting married compared to odds of not getting married are 0.4 times, i.e. 59.6% lower in case of women with masters and/or doctorate program degree than women with bachelor's degree. Employed men's odds of getting married to not getting married are increased by a factor of 1.65 compared to the unemployed men. In addition, if one's family circumstances are economically below average at the age of 14, the odds decrease by a multiple of 0.65. With these results, we are able to conclude that not only education level but also one's economic ability play significant roles in determining one's marriage decision.

Experimental Studies on the Antitumor Effects of Jinryungtang Gagambang Extract (진령탕가감방의 항종양효과(抗腫瘍效果)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究))

  • The sprig of Jinryungtang Gagambang has been used for curing as a traditional medicine without any experimental evidence to support the rational basis for their clinical use. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the possible therapeutic or antitumoral effects of Jinryungtang Gagambang extract against cancer, and to study some mechanisms responsible for its effect. The cytotoxic and antitumor effects were evaluated on human cell liens (A549, hep3B, Caki-1, Sarcoma 180) after exposure to Jinryungtang Gagambang extract using in ILS, colony forming efficency and SRB assay which were regarded as a valuable method for cytotoxic and antitumor effects of unknown compound on tumor cell lines. The results obtained in this studies were as follows. 1. As a result of exposure to Jinryungtang Gagambang extract, the proliferation of A549, hep3B, Caki-1, good correlations were shown from the results of SRB assay and those of clogenetic assay. 2. The oral administration of Jinryungtang Gagambang extract showed significant effects of increase of MST(mean survival time) and ILS(increased life span) depending on the increasing concentration. 3. Against squamous cell carcinoma induced by MCA, Jinryungtang Gagambang decreased not only the frequency of tumor production but also the number and weight of tumors per tumor bearing mice(TBM). Jinryungtang Gagambang also significantly suppressed the development of 3LL cell-implanted tumors by frequency and their size, and some developed tumors were regressed by the continuous treatment of Jinryungtang Gagambang extract into TBM. 4. Jinryungtang Gagambang extract also increased NK cell activities. According to the above results, it could be suggested that Jinryungtang Gagambang extract has prominent antiutmor effect.
