  • Usually the seismic stability analysis of slope uses the pseudostatic analysis considering the inertial force by the earthquake as a static load. Geostructures such as slope include the uncertainty of soil properties. Therefore, it is necessary to consider probabilistic method for stability analysis. In this study, the probabilistic stability analysis of slope considering the uncertainty of soil properties has been performed. The fragility curve that represents the probability of exceeding limit state of slope as a function of the ground motion has been established. The Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) has been implemented to perform the probabilistic stability analysis of slope with pseudostatic analysis. A procedure to develop the fragility curve by the pseudostatic horizontal acceleration has been presented by calculating the probability of failure based on the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based response surface technique that reduces the required time of MCS. The results showed that the proposed method can get the fragility curve that is similar to the direct MCS-based fragility curve, and can be efficiently used to reduce the analysis time.

  • This study investigates the relationship between muscular strengths and gait characteristics of the elderly. Totally, 107 subjects, aged 65 to 85 years, participated in this study. Researchers measured muscle strengths (grip force, toe grip force, gluteus medius, and gluteus maximus forces) and walking characteristics (walking speed, cadence, step length, single leg support, and double legs support). Dynamometers and inertial measurement unit-based shoe systems were used for measuring muscular strength and gait characteristics, respectively. No significant difference was observed in strengths and walking characteristics between the young elders (YE, 65-74 years) and the old elders (OE, 75-85 years). For each age, muscular strength significantly correlated with some gait parameters. Forces of gluteus medius and gluteus maximus muscles showed better significant correlations between some gait parameters for all age groups, as compared to grip force and toe grip force. Regression coefficients between walking speed and grip force did not vary with age. We conclude that muscular strengths in OE better explained the gait characteristics than in YE subjects. Even though grip strength is an easily measured variable for senior fitness test, forces of gluteus medius and gluteus maximus muscles are more meaningful for understanding the walking characteristics of elderly people.

  • The GF(Gust Factor) method is usually used as a method to evaluate equivalent static wind loads for general structures. The GF method is performed on the assumption that the shape of the equivalent static wind load profile is typically similar to that of mean wind loads. The shape of fluctuating wind loads could be quite different with that of the mean wind loads in case of large-span structures. So, the effect of higher modes as well as first mode must be considered to evaluate the wind loads. In this study, the ACS (Advanced Conditional Sampling) method is suggested to evaluate of equivalent static wind loads after investigating about GF and LRC method. The An method ran derive effective static wind loads by combining wind pressures and inertia forces of a structure chosen at a maximum load effect. The maximum load effect is assessed with the time history analysis using pressure data measured in wind tunnel tests. Equivalent static wind loads evaluated using ACS, GF, and LRC methods are compared to verify the effectiveness of ACS method.

  • To take into account of the increasing speed of next generation high-speed trains, a new design code for the traffic safety of railway bridges is required. To solve dynamic responses of the bridge, this research offers a numerical analyses of PSC (Pre-stressed Concrete) box girder bridge, which is most representative of all the bridges on Gyungbu high-speed train line. This model takes into account of the inertial mass forces by the 38-degree-of-freedom and interaction forces as well as track irregularities. Our numerical analyses analyze the maximum vertical deflection and DAF (Dynamic Amplification Factor) between simple span and two-span continuous bridges to show the dynamic stability of the bridge. The third-order polynomial regression equations we use predict the maximum vertical deflections depending on varying running speeds of the train. We also compare the vertical deflections at several cross-sectional positions to check the influence of running speeds and the maximum irregularity at a longitudinal level. Moreover, our model analyzes the influence lines of vertical deflection accelerations of the bridge to evaluate traffic safety.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the heritabilities, phenotypic correlation, genetic correlation and path-coefficients for desirable characters on the lodging related traits. Characters, that had high relation degree with field lodging degree, were rice-straw length, Wl /P, W/I, Wl /d, L, Wl / A, W/l, P, W $s^2$/ $l^4$ etc. Breaking strength appear negative correlation having an intention to field lodging. The second inertia moment of culm diameter trunk (branch), cross section area, rice-straw thickness and trunk cross section didn't appear negative coefficient with field lodging. It is considered that rice-straw length, leaf dry weight and lodging index, because of high heritability, become selection index of characters for breeding. In direct, indirect effect, and right rice-straw wall thickness appear largest( $P_{7y}$=0.6904), the next is the order of leaf dry weight( $P_{3y}$=0.2848), root dry weight ( $P_{1y}$=0.2658), culm diameter ( $P_{6y}$=-0.2280), and negative relation appear the order of rice-straw length ( $P_{5y}$=-0.9640) and stem dry weight( $P_{2y}$=-0.7072), therefore, the smaller culm length and stem dry weight, the stronger to lodging. to lodging.
