JOIS(JICST On-Line Information System)은 일본의 과학기술 발전을 위해 설립된 일본과학기술정보센터(JST : Japan Science and Technology Coporation : http;//www.jst-c.go.jp)에서 일본의 과학기술, 의학 등에 관한 정보를 제공하기 위하여 1976년에 세워진 데이터뱅크이다.

산업경제의 지속적인 성장, 공산품의 국산화 촉진 및 수출진흥정책의 계속적인 추진에 따라 급증하는 산업기술 정보수요에 효과적으로 대처하기 위하여 국가과학기술정보유통제제 (National System for Scientific and Technological Information: NASSTI)를 구상해온 한국과학기술정보센터(KORSTIC, 소장 김두홍)는 이 체제확립의 일환으로 구체적인 추진계획을 다음과 같이 밝혔다.

Each country has tried to collect sci-tech information which is one of the critical factors for R&D in sci-tech field. Korea also has put lots of budget and efforts to develop sci-tech information produced in advanced countries. However, national sci-tech information is scarcely distributed abroad though its high quality. This study focuses on analyzing national sci-tech information requested by overseas main sci-tech information service organizations. The ultimate aim of this study is to settle up the basis of the infrastructure for sci-tech information distribution.

지난 6월 9일, 연구개발정보센터(KORDIC)는 전자신문사와 공동으로 "과학기술 R&D에서 슈퍼컴퓨팅의 역할"이라는 주제로 각 응용 분야별 슈퍼컴퓨팅 관련 석학들을 모시고 좌담회를 개최하였다. 이날 참석자들은 슈퍼컴퓨터의 도입과 이의 적절한 활용이야말로 국가과학기술 경쟁력은 물론 산업경쟁력을 좌우할 만큼 중요하며 특히 과학기술 연구 개발 및 산업 분야의 생산성 제고에 지대한 영향을 미친다고 강조하고 정부 담당 부처의 이에 대한 아낌없는 지원을 요청했다. 이날 좌담회에서 논의된 토론자의 발언을 정리해 보았다.
