The Design and Implementation of a Remotely-Sensed Image Processing System using Internet (인터넷 상에서의 원격탐사 영상처리 시스템의 설계와 구현)

  • In recent years, as remotly-sensed image processing technologies have been improved and spread widely in the application areas, many new requirements for the image processing technologies have arisen. However, it is difficult and costly to access remotely-sensed image processing systems. Moreover, these systems have thier own processing facilities which are not easily accessible for general users. In this paper, those problems are challenged by adopting Internet as a universal information network for accessing remotly-sensed image DBMS and by allowing users to work remotely on the image processing. A remotly-sensed image processing system which can be accessed via Internet was designed and implemented. This system can be used to manipulate images over remote DBMS. The Illustra object-oriented relational DBMS with CGI(Common Gateway Interface) web interface was used in this project. The client consists of a WWW(World Wide Web) Netscap$e^{TM}$ browser, and the server consists of HTTPD(Web daemon), Illustra DBMS and Java modules in order to process the image being displayed. The developed system was tested on LAN environment and the service response time met the requirements.

  • 우리나라 하천관리의 패러다임은 1990년대 이후 기존의 치수 및 이수능력을 고려함과 동시에 하천환경의 보전 및 복원을 새로운 목표로 설정한 자연친화적 방식으로 변화되었다. 하천법령 및 제도적 측면에서도 수자원 장기종합계획 및 유역 종합 치수계획은 하천의 환경보전 및 다목적 이용계획을 포함하도록 규정하고 있으며, 국내 하천법에 따르면 하천기본계획 수립 또한 자연친화적 하천조성 및 이와 관련된 보전지구 지정 등을 포함하도록 규정하고 있다. 하천설계기준, 자연 친화적 하천관리에 관한 통합지침, 또는 수자원 장기종합계획에서 적용하고 있는 하천환경조사 및 평가지표는 서로 다를 뿐만 아니라 과학적인 근거가 명확하지 않는 등 국가차원의 표준화가 이루어지지 못한 상태라 할 수 있다. 1990년대 이후 미국, 독일, 영국, 호주 등 선진국들은 하천환경 복원사업의 추진과정에서 복원사업의 타당성 제고 및 성공적인 사업수행을 위하여 그들 국가의 하천특성에 적합한 하천환경 평가 체계를 구축한 바 있으며, 이들 평가체계는 새로운 과학적 지식과 기술의 축적에 힘입어 지속적으로 발전되고 있다. Fujita의 유형화(Segment 분류)법에 의하면, 하천구간(Segment)은 하상경사, 하상재료, 식생, 생태 등이 통계적으로 동질인 하천 구간으로서, 하도 특성과 하천생태계 공간을 구분하는 단위이다. 자연하천에서 동일한 경사를 갖는 하천구간은 하상재료, 소류력, 저수로 폭, 수심 등이 대체로 동일한 값을 나타내고 있으며, 하도 특성을 지배하는 주요 인자로 각 하천의 평균 연최대유량, 하상재료의 대표입경, 하상경사 등을 설정하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 하천구간을 유형화하는 기준을 하상경사로 적용하여 평가단위를 분류하였으며, 평가체계는 미국의 USEPA를 한국형 하천환경에 맞도록 수정보완 하였다. 특히 미국의 USEPA의 지표 중 하안영역의 식생피복, 하반림 등은 생물분야 식생영역과 상충되어 제외하고 우리나라 특성에 적합한 하천횡단형상, 하천횡단 구조물 등의 평가기준을 재정립하여 내성천에 평가적용 분석하였다. 하천환경의 수리 및 하도 특성 평가기준 개발에 따라 평가체계의 개념적 틀을 토대로 통합적이고 표준화된 한국형 하천평가기준 개발을 위한 방법론을 정립하고, 나아가 하천환경의 지속가능성을 전제로 한 하천복원사업의 장 단기적 성공 여부를 평가할 수 있는 실무지침의 과학적 근거를 제시하고자 한다.

Determine Optimal Timing for Out-Licensing of New Drugs in the Aspect of Biotech (신약의 기술이전 최적시기 결정 문제 - 바이오텍의 측면에서)

  • With regard to the development of new drugs, what is most important for a Korean Biotech, where no global sales network has been established, is decision-making related to out-licensing of new drugs. The probability of success for each clinical phase is different, and the licensing amount and its royalty vary depending on which clinical phase the licensing contract is made. Due to the nature of such a licensing contract and Biotech's weak financial status, it is a very important decision-making issue for a Biotech to determine when to license out to a Big Pharma. This study defined a model called 'optimal timing for out-licensing of new drugs' and the results were derived from the decision tree analysis. As a case study, we applied to a Biotech in Korea, which is conducting FDA global clinical trials for a first-in-class new drug. Assuming that the market size and expected market penetration rate of the target disease are known, it has been shown that out-licensing after phase 1 or phase 2 of clinical trials is a best alternative that maximizes Biotech's profits. This study can provide a conceptual framework for the use of management science methodologies in pharmaceutical fields, thus laying the foundation for knowledge and research on out-licensing of new drugs.

  • In a knowledge-based society where knowledge and information industries are the main pillars of the economy, knowledge sharing and diffusion and its systematic management are recognized as essential strategies for improving national competitiveness and sustainable social development. In the field of Information Systems (IS) research, where the convergence of information technology and management takes place in various ways, the evolution of knowledge occurs only when researchers cooperate in turning old knowledge into new knowledge from the perspective of the scientific knowledge network. In particular, it is possible to derive new insights by identifying topics of interest in the relevant research field, applied methodologies, and research trends through network-based interdisciplinary graftings such as citations, co-authorships, and keywords. In previous studies, various attempts have been made to understand the structure of the knowledge system and the research trends of the relevant community by revealing the relationship between research topics, methodologies, and co-authors. However, most studies have compared two or more journals and been limited to a certain period; hence, there is a lack of research that looked at research trends covering the entire history of IS research. Therefore, this study was conducted in the following order for all the papers (from its first issue in 1977 to the first quarter of 2022) published in the MIS Quarterly (MISQ) Journal, which plays a leading role in revealing knowledge in the IS research field: (1) After extracting keywords, (2) classifying the extracted keywords into research topics, methodologies, and theories, and (3) using topic modeling and keyword network analysis in order to identify the changes from the beginning to the present of the IS research in a chronological manner. Through this study, it is expected that by examining the changes in IS research published in MISQ, the developing patterns of IS research can be revealed, and a new research direction can be presented to IS researchers, nurturing the sustainability of future research.

Ontological Categorizing of High School Students About Rocks and Crust, Plate Tectonics (암석과 지각, 판구조론에 대한 고등학교 학생들의 존재론적 범주화)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate students' ontological categories about rocks and the earth's crust and plate tectonics. A total of 169 high school students in the first grade were involved in the study, and in order to extend the boundary and tendency of the research, structuralized questions and coding frame were generated. Additionally, the results from all students were codified in four levels according to coding frame (matter, transformation, proto-process, and process). Followings are the results. First, the ontological categories of students about the concepts of this research were classified dominantly into a matter and transformation within the boundary of 67% of rocks, and 75% of the crust. The propensity of plate tectonics in terms of ontological category were analyzed by being codified into 68% of process category which proved to have relatively process-oriented perspective. Secondly, the inclination to allocate ontological categories of each students in terms of field concepts were confirmed in 16% and 31% per each student that were codified into process categories and matter categories. Most students that were codified into matter category responded to high tendency to view the world as a combination of simple substances. Moreover, the students had ontological faith that speculates only through a state or an incident in terms of concepts that form a structure of knowledge.

A Multi-Strategic Mapping Approach for Distributed Topic Maps (분산 토픽맵의 다중 전략 매핑 기법)

  • Ontology mapping is the task of finding semantic correspondences between two ontologies. In order to improve the effectiveness of ontology mapping, we need to consider the characteristics and constraints of data models used for implementing ontologies. Earlier research on ontology mapping, however, has proven to be inefficient because the approach should transform input ontologies into graphs and take into account all the nodes and edges of the graphs, which ended up requiring a great amount of processing time. In this paper, we propose a multi-strategic mapping approach to find correspondences between ontologies based on the syntactic or semantic characteristics and constraints of the topic maps. Our multi-strategic mapping approach includes a topic name-based mapping, a topic property-based mapping, a hierarchy-based mapping, and an association-based mapping approach. And it also uses a hybrid method in which a combined similarity is derived from the results of individual mapping approaches. In addition, we don't need to generate a cross-pair of all topics from the ontologies because unmatched pairs of topics can be removed by characteristics and constraints of the topic maps. For our experiments, we used oriental philosophy ontologies, western philosophy ontologies, Yahoo western philosophy dictionary, and Yahoo german literature dictionary as input ontologies. Our experiments show that the automatically generated mapping results conform to the outputs generated manually by domain experts, which is very promising for further work.

A View Geography in 'Sunghosaseol' (성호사설(星湖僿說)에 나타난 지리관 일고찰 -천지문(天地門)을 중심으로-)

  • This paper was written on the purpose of examining and analyzing Sungho's view of geography in 'Cheonjimun(天地門)', a part of 'Sunghosaseol(星湖僿說)'. Sungho is not a geographer who specialized in geography, His view is neither structural in methodological approach nor profound in geographical thought. Unfortunately, he looks to be possessed by geomantic thought(風水地理思想) in explaining geographical features and native customs. And he focused and emphasized only on defensive function in place location. As a whole, however, he had a good grasp of and analyzed about geographical topics which are related to human life and we must take interest in. Therefore, in his view, there is a love for country and hometown. Especially, it has to be highly appreciated that he tried to explain his view in analytical and practical perspective with an unspoken advice which things necessary for human life have to be used to available knowledge.

XOB: An XMDR-based Ontology Builder (XOB: XMDR 기반의 온톨로지 생성 시스템)

  • Much research on ontology has been done during the last decade in order to represent knowledge and connect data semantically in AI and Semantic Web areas. However, ontologies might be represented and defined in different ways depending on knowledge and intention of users. It causes heterogeneity problem that the same concept can be differently expressed. This paper introduces a XOB (XMDR-based Ontology Builder) system based on XMDR to resolve the problem. XOB creates ontologies by reusing classes and relations defined in XMDR. XOB therefore is able to either solve or minimize the heterogeneity problem among ontologies. This paper introduces the conceptual model and overall architecture of the proposed system XOB. This paper defines the process, algorithm, ontology generation rule that is required to create ontologies by using concepts registered in XMDR. Our proposal supports higher standardization than the previous approaches, and it provides many advantages such as consistent concept usage, easy semantic exchange, and so on. Therefore, XOB enables high-quality ontology creation and reduces cost for ontology integration and system development.

  • In the era of electronic records management, today's record management environment is rapidly evolving. Therefore, this study aims to suggest improvement plans for continuing education that allows archivists to acquire knowledge and skills in the dynamic records management environment. Thus, this study analyzed an archivist's work characteristics and proved the necessity of continuing education in a changing record management environment. Furthermore, the United States' continuing education curriculum and the United Kingdom's Archives and Records Association (ARA) were analyzed. Based on this, the researchers compared and analyzed the curriculum of continuing education locally and abroad and suggested ways to improve continuing education suitable for local records professionals.

Epistemological Implications of Scientific Reasoning Designed by Preservice Elementary Teachers during Their Simulation Teaching: Evidence-Explanation Continuum Perspective (초등 예비교사가 모의수업 시연에서 구성한 과학적 추론의 인식론적 의미 - 증거-설명 연속선의 관점 -)

  • In this study, I took the evidence-explanation (E-E) continuum perspective to examine the epistemological implications of scientific reasoning cases designed by preservice elementary teachers during their simulation teaching. The participants were four preservice teachers who conducted simulation instruction on the seasons and high/low air pressure and wind. The selected discourse episodes, which included cases of inductive, deductive, or abductive reasoning, were analyzed for their epistemological implications-specifically, the role played by the reasoning cases in the E-E continuum. The two preservice teachers conducting seasons classes used hypothetical-deductive reasoning when they identified evidence by comparing student-group data and tested a hypothesis by comparing the evidence with the hypothetical statement. However, they did not adopt explicit reasoning for creating the hypothesis or constructing a model from the evidence. The two preservice teachers conducting air pressure and wind classes applied inductive reasoning to find evidence by summarizing the student-group data and adopted linear logic-structured deductive reasoning to construct the final explanation. In teaching similar topics, the preservice teachers showed similar epistemic processes in their scientific reasoning cases. However, the epistemological implications of the instruction were not similar in terms of the E-E continuum. In addition, except in one case, the teachers were neither good at abductive reasoning for creating a hypothesis or an explanatory model, nor good at using reasoning to construct a model from the evidence. The E-E continuum helps in examining the epistemological implications of scientific reasoning and can be an alternative way of transmitting scientific reasoning.
