  • In this study, K-Digital Training program, which is a representative government project of vocational training for new digital technologies in response to the 4th industrial revolution, is analyzed and an improvement model is suggested. The K-Digital training project is rapidly expanding, with the number of training operators increasing by 7.1 times and training course programs by 8.5 times within three years of implementation, but there is a severe problem in that education and training programs are concentrated in the metropolitan. To solve this problem, a shared training model is proposed. This model is a plan to maximize the use of local human and material resources, to respond to new digital technologies through systematic composition and operation, and to enhance the stability and reliability of education and training. In each region, a sharing and cooperation model in the form of a consortium is established that jointly utilizes resources scattered by various training institutions such as instructors, training contents, and training infrastructure related to digital new technology. In addition, a training certification evaluation system is introduced to increase the credibility of the rapidly developing digital new technology training.

  • Heterogeneous high performance computing systems are gaining acceptance as the environments for computational scientific simulations of various application fields. Those computing systems, however, have been mostly used with the legacy consoles, resulting in the severe decrement of accessibility and usability of heterogeneous computing assets. To solve this problem, this paper presents the design and implementation of web-based computational science simulation management program. The proposed program provides fundamental primitives including user authentication, data management, physical/virtual computing resource management, job management, etc. that can be used to manage different kinds of simulations efficiently, and also offers highly extensible feature through a modular plug-in architecture. We also present the best practical examples of applications (e.g., scientific simulation education and bio-medical) to confirm our program's effectiveness.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of self-regulated learning ability for engineering students. Self-regulated learning theory has been studied as the theoretical background and assessment framework explaining life-long ability. A survey was conducted to engineering students from an engineering-centered university, located in Seoul. The research findings were as follows. First, each mean of cognitive regulation, motivation regulation, and behavior regulation was 3.041, 3.051, and 2.996 respectively, indicating that the scores were not high. Second, there was no significant difference in the mean score of self-regulated learning ability between female and male students. Third, students in ABEEK accredited program scored meaningfully higher than students in non-accredited program on only 3 sub-components of organization strategy, metacognition, and task value. Fourth, senior students scored meaningfully higher than 1st year students on only 3 sub-components of metacognition, intrinsic motivation, learning environment management. The results revealed that instructional interventions should be provided for engineering students to develop self-regulated learning ability.

  • Many colleges in Korea have been making a concentrated effort to develop engineering certification education programs, fit for the certification standards and the reality of each college. However, in reality, many colleges and departments in Korea have great difficulties in making the curriculums meet the engineering certification standards to be proper for the present situation of each college. Therefore, this study aims at suggesting the most general way to make a specialized liberal arts curriculum for the colleges preparing for the engineering certification. When this is applied to the architectural engineering program curriculums of each college, students will be able to take specialized liberal arts subjects which are appropriate for their future careers and aptitudes, and also enterprises will be able to curtail educational expenses for their new employees and hire competent people who combine fundamental personality, basic knowledge about the work, and foreign language proficiency. Furthermore, the nation will be able to secure national competitive power through systematization of engineering education and realistic educational systems.

  • According to the acceleration of informationalization and technological renovation in new coming $21^c$, the material production elements like labor and capital as well as others which have been the resources of a country's competitive power are changing into formless knowledge-based assets like knowledge and technology. In order to meet these demands of this time, companies in developed countries are concentrating on competition and cooperation to obtain higher technology as a strategy towards becoming first-class countries in the world. Thus, the development program of human resources should focus on providing creative technical application ability. Especially, universities should develop knowledge, technology, creative problem-solving ability and realism acquired by various fields in industry where engineering is used and make it possible to perform practical tasks. As a plan for enforcement and management of this program, a certification program which evaluates the ability and accomplishments of the study of graduate students in order to manage the quality of education should be applied as soon as possible at the institute which trains engineers. In this study, among the accomplishment assessment which have been suggested as an alternative assessment method, portfolio assessment is introduced into the educational situation of engineering technological human resources to find a method of application.

  • We carried out mathematics diagnostic tests for all first year engineering students at C University in Daejeon in 2008, covering precalculus and basic calculus. Then we divided into two classes such as regular and supplementary classes. The supplementary class students are lower 13% students. Then we gave extra classes for these students to support their basic and elementary calculus skills. As a result, these supplementary students received a meaningful accomplishment at the final exam. This paper analyzes the results and effects of various types of supplementary classes such as education by level, and proposes some strategies to enhance mathematics learning, particularly for under achieving first year engineering students.

  • This paper deals with analyzing accreditation findings and the causes for the deficiencies in the review by the EAC(Engineering Accreditation Committee) of ABEEK in 2014. For this purpose Final Statements of the 266 engineering education programs reviewed by the EAC of ABEEK in 2014 were analyzed on the basis of the each criterion. However, Accreditation Criterion 8(Program Criterion) was excluded in the analysis of the causes for the deficiencies since the program-specific requirements within areas of specialization might vary with the program criteria. As results of accreditation review by the EAC of ABEEK, Deficiency findings were 81 cases which made up 3.81% of total findings, Weakness findings were 1,679 which made up 78.91% of total findings, Concern findings were 124 cases which made up 5.83% of total findings, and Satisfaction findings were 244 cases which made up 11.47% of total findings. Deficiency and Weakness findings against which the relevant program must take actions for the improvement were 82.71% in all. The findings on program accreditation are made on the basis of the Accreditation Actions Guide. Accordingly, in view of formal logic in the accreditation review, the accreditation findings should comply with the Accreditation Actions Guide consistently. In this respect, the Deficiency findings in the accreditation review can be justified. So it is useful for a program or an institution which prepares for the accreditation review to check over the causes for the Deficiency against the Accreditation Actions Guide. On the other hand changeover in the accreditation policy of the ABEEK may be necessary. If the quality of the engineering education is improved continuously through the accreditation review, accreditation fulfills its purpose. To gain this end it is important to place higher value on the 'bigger picture' than on the minor details. In other words, "holistic" evaluation of evidence should form the basis of accreditation review.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and present the accreditation criteria for engineering technology education programs in junior colleges. Research methods used in this study were review of related literature, experts discussion, and Delphi technique. Especially, Delphi technique was the major research method of this study. The Delphi surveys were taken for about seven weeks and three rounds at a higher level of expert participation. Major results of the study were as follows: 1. It proved that thirty six of total forty items had the content validity as the accreditation criteria of engineering technology education programs for junior colleges. CVR(Content Validity Ratio) of four items were below .33 and eliminated four items from the final accreditation criteria. 2. It proved that total Cronbach ${\alpha}$ was very high .9142 and reliability was very high all over items. It proved that six items made worse reliability, therefore it was desirable to exclude six items for increase of reliability. But the final accreditation criteria included six items, because they had a high validity as well as increasing rate of Cronbach ${\alpha}$ was very low with the exception of them. 3. Items of high importance were drawn out through analysis of importance. It proved that thirty of total forty items were more than 4.00 average in importance and ten items were less than average. 4. In conclusion, the final accreditation criteria were developed and presented through such analysis of validity, reliability and importance. The final accreditation criteria for engineering technology education programs in junior colleges were composed of seven domains of educational objectives, learning outcomes, curriculum, staff, facilities, institutional support, and student assessment.
