As the prevalence of cloud computing increases, various cloud service types have emerged, such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. The growth and diversification of these cloud services has also resulted in the development of technology for cloud service brokers (CSBs), which serve as intermediate cloud services that can assist cloud tenants (users) in deploying services that fit their requirements. In order to broker cloud services, CSBs require the specification of structural models in order to facilitate the analysis and search for cloud services. In this study, we propose a variability-based service analysis model (SAM) that can be used to describe various cloud services. This model is based on the concept of variability in the software product line and represents the commonality and variability of cloud services by binding variants to each variation point that exists in the specification, quality, and pricing of the services. We also propose a virtual cloud bank architecture as a CSB that serves as an intermediate to provides tenants with appropriate cloud services based on the SAM.
Component-based software development (CBD) technology has been widely accepted as a new effective paradigm for building software systems with reusable components, consequently reducing efforts and shortening time-to-market. Hence, components should provide standard or common functionalities in a domain, yielding a higher level of reusability. Especially, micro-level variability within the commonality should also be modeled so that a product member-specific business logic or requirement can be supported through component tailoring or customization The importance of commonality and variability (C&V) analysis has been emphasized in several CBD methods, but they lack of well-defined systematic process, detailed instructions, and standard artifact templates. As the result, the development of components has been carried out in ad-hoc fashion, depending on developer's experience. In this paper, we propose a systematic process and work instructions to design components. The process consists of phases and their activities and each activity is specified with detailed instructions and artifact templates in order to facilitate effective development of components. To verify a feasibility of the propose method, a case study in a banking domain and comparison and assessment between the proposed method and other methods are additionally provided. With proposed processes and instructions, reusability and efficiency of developing components can be better supported.

Product line engineering (PLE) is one of the most recent and emerging reuse approaches in software engineering. Core asset, which is a reusable unit of PLE, is shared by several members in a product line (PL). So, developing a well-defined core asset is a prerequisite to increase productivity and time-to-market. Existing PLE methodologies emphasize the importance of core asset but mainly focus on analyzing core asset. And, several processes for designing core asset do not fully cover all elements of core asset which is from product line architecture (PLA) to decision model and need to augment systematic process, detailed instructions, and templates of artifacts. These problems result in difficulty with designing core asset and applying PLE. In this paper, we present an overall process and templates of artifacts to design core assets. And, we apply proposed process to a case study in order to show its applicability. With the proposed process, detailed instructions, and templates of artifacts, we believe that we can more systematically and more easily design high-quality core assets and we fully cover product line architecture, component, and decision model when designing a core asset.
