Numerical Study of the Effect of Fan Arrangement on the Cooling Performance of the ONAF Type Radiator for Power Transformer (변압기용 ONAF 방식 방열기의 팬 배치에 따른 냉각특성 연구)

  • Owing to the trend of an increase in capacity and high-efficiency requirement, the life and reliability of power transformer depend significantly on the amount of heat generation per unit volume and the degradation of insulation oil. These problems can be solved by enhancing the cooling performance of the radiator. The purpose of this study was to find a suitable position of fans for a better cooling effect given by the forced-convection of air in an ONAF (Oil Natural Air Forced) type transformer. In the simulation, commercial software was used for flow analysis, and the cooling passage of the oil was simplified to shorten the time taken for computation. With the diameter of the fan fixed at a constant value, the analysis was performed only by changing the position of the fans. As a result, a vertical position change of the fans does not affect the cooling performance significantly. However, the temperature drop given by the fans positioned on the front region of the transformer is larger than that on the rear region.

  • As the large Coolant amount used of a machine holds mass serious trouble recently, an environment pollution is increased, and a machine is conquering large specific gravity in an empty cost plane. It is the stage that must reexamine the parts washing that processing is later with this current way or a problem of a liquid waste treatment back. The environmental problems by using coolant demanded the new cooling methods. As one of them, the studies on the grinding with compressed cold air and oil mist have been done. The cooling method using compressed cold air was effective through going down the temperature of compressed air supplied below -$25^{\circ}C$ and increasing the amount of compressed cold air, but had not enough cooling effect due to the low performance of lubrication. Therefore, the cooling methods using oil mist newly were suggested. This method can satisfy both cooling effect and lubrication with only small amount of coolant, also have the benefit in the point of decreasing the environmental pollution. This paper focused on analyzing the grinding characteristics of the cooling method using oil mist. The grinding test according to compressed cold air and oil mist supply direction were done.

  • As the technique of high-speed end-milling is widely adopted to machining field. The investigation for microscopic precision of workpiece is necessary for machinability evolution. The environmental pollution has become a big problem in industry and many researcher have investigated in order to preserve the environment. The environmentally conscious machining and technology have more important position in machining process. In the milling process, the cutting fluid has greatly bad influence on the environment. The damaged layer affect mold life and machine parts in machining. In this study, the cutting force, the surface roughness, micro hardness and residual stress is evaluated according to machining environment. Finally, it is obtained that the characteristics of damaged layer in environmentally conscious machining is better than that in conventional machining using cutting fluid.

A series of tests are carried out using measuring eqipments under dry and compressed cold air machining.

  • Recently, environmental pollution has become a significant problem in industry and many researches have been investigated in order to preserve the environment. Environmentally conscious machining and technology have more and more important position in machining process. In the milling process, the cutting fluid has greatly bad influence on the environment. In this study, the machining of blade parts(12Cr steel) using the cutting fluid, compressed cold air and oil mist etc., also, the productivity and the surface topography was improved by using new end-mil tool considering tool material and shape.

  • The investigation of microscopic precision in high speed endmilling is necessary for machinability evaluation, and the environmentally conscious machining technology have more important position in recent machining process. The microscopic precision of workpiece is influenced by machining environments variation as cutting fluid type and lubricant method. In this study, the cutting forces according to variation of cooling and lubrication are investigated by specially designed tool dynamometer. And the surface roughness, micro hardness and residual stress are evaluated according to machining environment. The characteristics of damaged layer in environmentally conscious machining and conventional machining using cutting fluid are compared experimentally.
