  • In distributed computing platforms like CORBA, wrappers are used to integrate heterogeneous systems or databases. A spatial data provider is one of the wrappers because it provides clients with uniform access interfaces to diverse data sources. The individual implementation of spatial data providers for each of different data sources is not efficient because of redundant coding of the wrapper modules. This paper presents a new architecture of the spatial data provider which consists of two layered objects : independent wrapper components and dependent wrapper components. Independent wrapper components would be reused for implementing a new data provider for a new data source, which dependent wrapper components should be newly coded for every data source. This paper furthermore discussed the issues of implementing the representation of query results in the middleware. There are two methods of keeping query results in the middleware. One is to keep query results as non-CORBA objects and the other is to transform query results into CORBA objects. The evaluation of the above two methods shows that the cost of making CORBA objects is very expensive.

  • Schema integration is one of the most difficult issues in the heterogeneous and distributed geographic database systems (GDSs). As the use of spatial information in various application areas becomes increasingly popular, the integration of geographic information has become a crucial task for decision makers. Most existing schema integration techniques described in the database literature, however, do not address the problems of managing heterogeneities among complex objects that contain visual data and/or spatial and temporal information. The difficulties arise not only from the semantic conflicts, but also from the different representations of spatial models. Consequently, it is much more complex to achieve interoperability in the area of geographic databases. This research attempts to provide a solution to such problems. The research reported in this paper describes a schema integration methodology and a prototype toolkit developed to assist in schema integration activities for GDSs.

  • This paper suggests design and implementation of moving objects management system using GML which is the XML encoding standard of geographic data. The proposed system integrates spatial data and moving objects data, utilizing the concept of Web Feature Services. While integrating data, standard data model and interfaces, proposed by OGC, are used. Since GML is standard for storing and transferring spatial/non-spatial data, interoperability and extendibility can be obtained. In addition, we propose efficient developing environment for the moving object management system by providing components having Web/Mobile interface. If the proposed component be development methods are used, it is easy to add or modifyservices in the mobile system and pla
