The Effects of Head Mounted display on Time-on-task and Virtual Presence for Navigational Tasks in the Immersive Virtual Reality (실감형 가상현실에서 Head Mounted Display가 과제수행시간 및 가상실재감 요인에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of display on time on tasks and virtual presence in the immersive virtual reality. Head mounted display (HMD) and monitor conditions were compared when the participants were asked to complete navigation tasks in a virtual classroom. Time on tasks and virtual presence were measured. Three factors of the virtual presence were applied as dependent variables such as 1) spatial presence, 2) involvement, and 3) realness. The results showed that HMD condition took longer time to finish tasks than monitor conditions. HMD condition showed significantly higher perception from all of the virtual presence factors. Interestingly, there was a significant interaction effect between the display conditions and presence factors. The relationship between display types and virtual presence factors were discussed for future study.

  • 실감 재현이 중요한 가상현실 응용에서는 사용자에게 고급 그래픽 환경을 제시하고 사용자의 인터랙션에 즉각적인 피드백을 제공함으로서 실재감과 몰입감을 증대시키는 연구가 진행되어왔다. 실재감, 공간감 전달을 위해 시각과 청각을 함께 활용하는 것이 효과적이나, 가상공간의 특징을 반영한 3차원 사운도 재현 연구는 국내외 통틀어 초기단계에 머물러 있다. 실재감과 공간감을 반영한 3차원 사운드의 재현을 위해서는 음원의 전파, 반사, 잔향 풍의 계산이 사용자의 인터랙션에 따라 새롭게 계산되어야한다. 그러나 사운드 전파경로와 공간을 이루는 모든 폴리곤들과의 충돌을 검사하며 반사 등을 계산하는 것은 실시간성이 중요한 가상현실응용에서는 무리가 따르므로 실 시간성을 보장하기 위한 계산량 축소가 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 다수의 음원이 존재하는 복잡한 가상공간에서의 3차원 사운드를 재현하기 위하여 사운드 신과 계산에 필요한 최소한의 정보를 가지는 오디오 씬 그라프의 공간을 재구성하고 다수의 음원을 대상으로 음원 축소 및 군집화를 적용하여 3차원 사운드효과를 실시간으로 재현하는 알고리즘을 제안한다.

A Study on Realism of a Digital Signage using 3D Hologram (3D홀로그램을 활용한 디지털 사이니지의 사실감)

  • It is expected that if a viewer feels the higher realism, it will increase efficiency at 3D hologram. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the evaluation factors on realism for digital signage using 3D holograms. For empirical analysis, the evaluation factors were derived and built up hypothesis(The evaluation factors of digital signage using 3D holograms will affect the realism). As a result of the experiment, Hypothesis 1 (Social presence) and 3 (Harmony with the space) were adopted while Hypothesis 2 (Graphic's elaboration) was rejected. Finally, research has shown that in order to improve the realism of digital signage using 3D holograms, the contents should be produced in consideration of presence so that the viewers could feel as if they were actually inside of contents rather than expressed extremely well made higher image resolution. Hence, the 3D hologram contents should be installed in a place where it would fit well with the space around it.

The Effect of Metaverse Presence on Intention to Share Knowledge Through Intrinsic Motivation of Employees: Moderating Effect of Digital Technological Competence (메타버스 실재감이 조직원의 내적 동기를 통해 지식공유 의도에 미치는 영향: 디지털 기술 역량의 조절 효과)

  • Covid-19 calls for minimizing gatherings of people in spaces such as offices. Organizations are encouraging information-sharing activities among employees by using online platform technology. Recently, Organizations are supporting their work using the metaverse. This study confirms the effect of metaverse presence on the intention to share knowledge by forming the intrinsic motivation of the employees and the moderating effect of the individual's digital technological competence. We presented research hypotheses through previous studies such as virtual reality and tested the hypotheses using 309 samples obtained through surveys. As a result, the social, tele, and self presence of the metaverse increased organizational-related intrinsic motivation(organizational identification, value congruence) and had a positive effect on the intention to share knowledge. In addition, digital technological competence moderated the relationship between value congruence and intention to share knowledge. This study suggests the importance of strategies to enhance the presence of metaverse for organizations to increase work productivity by using metaverse and the need to support individual digital competence reinforcement.

The Effects of Teaching Reality and Learning Reality Perceived by College Students on Learning Satisfaction in Non-face-to-face Classes (비대면 수업에서 대학생이 인지하는 교수실재감과 학습실재감이 학습만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve and develop the quality of non-face-to-face classes according to the types of presence by analyzing the effects of teaching presence and learning presence on the learning satisfaction of the non-face-to-face classes that have been suddenly conducted due to COVID-19. For this purpose, a survey on online classes of H University in Gwangju Metropolitan City was conducted to analyze learning satisfaction, teaching presence (learning design, direct promotion), and learning presence (cognitive presence, social presence). The results of the analysis showed that the learning contents of cognitive presence, which is a sub-factor of learning presence, were understood (=.589, p<.001), the direct promotion (=.420, p<.001), and the learning design (=.397, p<.01), which are the sub-factors of teaching presence, were influential in order.This means that the suddenly changed teaching method should have an attitude to improve the intimacy between the instructor and the fellow learners with positive emotional exchange or interaction. The instructor should try to overcome the limitations of time and space through blended learning that is both online and offline for high quality learning design, but the learning medium and learning method considering the physical fatigue of the learner should be developed.

Effects of Character Identification on User Experience and Perceived Risk in Smoking Simulation Game (흡연 시뮬레이션 게임에서 사용자와 동일한 캐릭터의 사용이 실재감, 몰입, 위험인식에 미치는 효과)

  • This study attempted to identify differences in user experience such as spatial presence, social presence, flow, empathy, anxiety, and perceived risk between simulating characters of animation and of actual userimage. The playtesting method was conducted on 60 male smokers using 'Smoking Sims', a simulation game produced by The Center for Health Communication Studies. The results found that the simulation of actual image character is higher in the level of perceived risks for smoking, spatial presence, social presence, flow, and empathy than the simulation of animation character. The study shows that identification with a game character affects user experience and enhances the effectiveness of perceived risks as well. It emphasizes the importance of game design to implement identification in serious game like a smoking cessation simulation.

Perceptions of social presence and aggressive behavior in cyberspace (사이버 공간에서 사회적 실재감의 지각과 공격행동)

  • This study investigated the effects of social presence as means of self-awareness and interpersonal-awareness on the cyber-aggressive behavior. The cyber-aggressive behavior (flaming and direct aggression use of character) should be differ from existence of social presence and type of social presence of internet users. To test hypothesis, an experiment was executed a field study on cyberspace, an on-line game, "fortress 2 blue forever". I made a chat-room in the game site to conduct an experiment to 107 person who entered the chat-room and blinded ignorance of this situation made by researchers. As the subjects enter the chat-room, he chats with 3 researchers who were waiting before he gets in. The social presence was operated with 3 phases by the contents of the chat (①control group; nothing, ②experimental group 1; reaction about other people ③experimental group 2; reaction about other people + self-exposure by an exchange information of their home region). The studies show that, subjects of the control group behaved more aggressively than other subjects of the experimental groups(both flaming and direct aggression use of character). Meantime, I compared experimental group 1 with experimental group 2 to investigate difference between the type of social presence. As the result, subjects of the experimental group 1 behaved more aggressively than experimental group 2 (only flaming, there's no difference in direct aggression use of character).

  • 인터넷이 널리 보급되면서 발달한 온라인상에서 사용자들이 서로 공유된 가상공간의 다른 사용자와 상호작용할 수 있는 다사용자온라인게임은 그 시나리오나 수용방식에 대한 변화 가능성에 관한 내용을 다루고 있을 뿐, 그래픽 인터페이스에 관한 연구는 전무한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 인터넷이라는 매체적 특징을 이용하여 다사용자온라인게임 사용자간의 상호작용에 주목하였고, 그러한 상호작용 요소를 중점적으로 한 그래픽인터페이스 요소를 추출하여 내용분석을 시행하였다. 본 내용분석을 위하여 각종 관련 게임 사이트에서 160개 게임의 905개 스크린 샷을 수집하여 빈도분석과 교차분석을 시행한 결과를 종합하여 보면 다사용자온라인게임은 3D그래픽 기술의 발전으로 캐릭터와 배경 및 시점에 있어 실재감 있는 화면과 애니메이션을 통해 사용자들의 가상현실 체험을 높이고 있다. 이를 위해 실재감을 방해할 수 있는 다른 조작요소의 색은 상대적으로 어둡고 공간을 작게 차지하도록 하는 경향을 띠고 있는 것으로 보인다. 이를 위해 기존의 게임과는 다른 인터페이스 레이아웃이 발전되어 자리잡고 있으며 또한 비교적 성공을 거둔 것으로 파악되는 인기도가 높은 게임의 경우를 미루어 보아 게임의 소재와 배경은 모호하게 설정하여 현실세계와 다르면서도 어디엔가 존재할 수 있음직한 세계를 설정하여 재미와 실재감을 동시에 높이고 있는 것으로 보인다. 또한 이러한 인터페이스의 변화를 주도하는 요인으로는 문화적, 기술적, 디자인적 요인으로 나뉠 수 있으며 각 요인들에 의한 획기적 인터페이스의 등장은 다른 게임들에도 영향을 미치게 되어 결국 인터페이스 유형 자체를 변화시키는 것으로 분석되었다.

Study on Influence of VR Visual Cognitive Factors on VR Contents cognition and Presence (VR콘텐츠의 인지에 미치는 시지각 요인이 실재감에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • As a result of the recent development and dissemination of HMD equipment, there has been an increase in the development of virtual reality contents. However most of these developments do not take differences of users' cognitive abilities and users' ability to immerse in and connect to these contents into consideration. In this study, we investigated the effects of visual factors of contents by conducting literature reviews, and conducted research on the correlation between visual factors and Virtual reality presence. While color and spatial factors had significant positive effects on content recognition and sense of reality, motion perception factors caused cognitive dissonance, which negatively effects the accurate recognition of contents. We were able to find that accurate recognition of virtual reality contents have a great impact on users' sense of reality.

A Study on Parameters for Optimizing Cognitive Distance in Virtual Environment (가상공간에서의 거리감 인지 최적화를 위한 제어 요소 도출 연구)

  • 현실의 물리적인 공간에서의 상호작용으로 얻은 경험을 가상현실에서 완전 몰입형 HMD를 착용한 사용자에게 동일하게 제공하기 위해서는 가상공간 내의 사물의 위치, 높이와 같은 거리감을 효율적으로 제공하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 사용자가 느끼는 실재와 가상 간 거리감 보정을 위한 제어 요소 도출을 위해 인체 데이터인 IPD, 키, 눈높이를 측정하여 실험에 반영한다. 실험 시 보다 높은 가상공간 상 거리감 인지를 위해 현실에서의 50cm, 100cm 거리감 인지 훈련을 수행한다. 실험자는 가상공간 상에서 85cm 거리에 위치한 판자를 시각적으로 가늠 후 인지한 만큼 이동하게 되고 그 거리를 측정한다. 측정된 데이터들을 바탕으로 한 분산 분석을 통해 각 데이터 간의 관계를 파악한다.
