Houses have usually been planned for those who are in good physical condition rather than with disabilities. Therefore, it is difficult to provide a high quality residential environment for people with disabilities. To live in their own houses continuously, it is essential to renovate their houses where they have been living. This study focuses on removing the barrier factors from houses by analyzing the characteristics of disability types and purpose of each space. Therefore, this study divides a house into 5 sectors: an accessible path; an entrance hall; a corridor; a living room; and a bedroom to remove the barrier factors from each sector according to the analysis above. As a result, the sectors that show high frequency and importance of renovation should be considered as a top priority for renovation.

Kitchen space is one of the most dangerous places for the elderly. Modification of kitchen space for improving safety and independence for older residents is very important factor for aging -in-place. The purpose of this study wes to identify the current situation and modification of kitchen space by elderly-headed household. The sample included 108 respondents over the age 65 who consisted of elderly-couple or single person household with homeownership in Seoul. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Based on the findings of the study, the present incidence and recognition of future need in kitchen modification were identified. Changes in kitchen space made tended to be nonstructural or relatively inexpensive items. In conclusion, this study suggests several ideas for improving current physical problems of kitchen space to support daily living of older residents.

The purpose of this study is to clarify topography interpretation and the space remodeling characteristic of the city by the feng shui thought. the result of the study is as follow. 1. remodeling of the city in the Phoenix thought to be involved in the background wants to overcome the difficult situation in the desire to confirm the implications could be. 2. In the rapidly aging society, the number of wheelchair users is increasing steadily. On the other hand, it is almost impossible for a disabled person using a wheelchair to use express buses. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an express bus that can secure the rights of wheelchair users. For these special types of express buses, it is required to develop a special entrance and lift system. The development of a wheelchair entrance system for the express buses requires design modification, retrofit, and reinforcement of the bus frame. This study evaluated the structural integrity of an entrance system for wheelchair users using a finite element method. Torsional stiffness and modal analysis were performed through structural analysis. Through sensitivity analysis, optimization was performed to reduce the weight of the frame. These results on the wheelchair entrance system are expected to be utilized in the vehicle modification and welfare industries.

This study is focused on the residential spaces that the elderly wish to renovate and their willingness to improve residential environment as they grow old. The analysis shows, first, the most inconvenient places as they grow old are the stairs, following by the toilet and the bath. Second, the place that the elderly most wish to renovate is the floor, upgrading floors with non-slippery materials. And they wish to remove the height differences on the floor to protect them from tripping over, upgrade the floor plan for their convenience and renovate the storage and working spaces at the kitchen and dining areas. The more the government supports the costs of the residential renovation service, the more the elderly are willing to use the renovation service. The factors influencing their willingness to residential renovation are health, residential environment, experience to accidents and their allowances. The elderly who experienced accidents inside their residence are more willing to renovate their house. Even though the elderly wish to renovate their houses, it's not carried out due to the financial difficulties and the lack of information. Thus, the government should share the useful information about residential renovation for the safety of the elderly and find a way to raise money to cover the costs of the renovation.
