Ambient-Air In-Bin Drying of Paddy with the Modified Flat-type Store for Small Scale Korean Farmer (개량곳간을 이용한 벼의 상온통풍건조)

  • 중규모 벼농가에서의 벼건조 및 저장을 위하여, 한국형 개량곳간(크기: $1.8{\times}2.4m$, 높이 : 3.2m, 규모 : 2-4 M/T)을 개발하였다. 송풍기(0.5마력) 및 공기유도닥트를 부착하여 건조 및 aeration이 가능하도록 하였으며, 저장중 양곡손실을 최소한 줄이기 위해 방서용철망, 환풍창 및 구판들을 설치하였다. 그리고 양곡의 입출고가 용이하도록 내리닫이쪽문을 설치하였다. 개발된 개량곳간을 이용하여 1981년, 1982년, 1983년 가을에 각각 수확한 물벼를 수확즉시 건조하였을 때, 기후조건, 수확시기, 수확시의 수분함량, 풍량, 송풍시간, 곳간내에서의 벼의 높이 등에 따라서 차이는 있으나 상온 통풍에 의하여 벼를 잘 건조할 수 있었다. 그리고 건조조건에 따라서 건조양상은 달랐으나 180~352시간의 건조시간이 소요되었으며, 연속 상온통풍에 의하여 건조된 벼의 품질은 비교적 양호하였다.

연구여적-파동으로 사장된 「석유단백사료」연구 개량곳간ㆍ미곡처리장 건설에 보람

  • 1967년 유치과학자의 한사람으로 귀국한 나는 이듬해 식량자원연구실을 차리고 석유단백질 생산 5개년계획을 세우고 연구작업에 돌입했다. 끈질긴 노력끝에 균주를 찾고 시제품도 만들어 공급이 시작될 무렵, 세계 석유파동으로 생산이 중단돼 5년간 7천만원을 투입한 연구결과가 사장되는 안타까운 현실을 체험했다. 그 후 새로 착수한 연구과제는 청결미 생산과 미곡종합처리장 건설이었는데 9년에 걸친 연구끝에 개량곳간과 한국형 미곡종합처리체계를 완성해 전국에 보급하고 있어 과학자로서 큰 보람을 간직하게 되었다.

Case Study about BX(Brand Experience) Design System Development -Focusing on JUNGGANEGOTGAN Brand- (브랜드 경험(Brand Experience)디자인 시스템 개발사례 연구 -'정가(家)네곳간' 브랜드 개발사례 중심으로-)

  • This study is about brand design system development cases based on BX, focusing on research of JUNGGANEGOTGAN brand conducted from January 2018 to April. BX is a subjective and internal response of consumers arising from design stimulus including brand identity. BX design is brand-related stimulus based on brand experience and BX is generated when stimulant of brand design and consumers' contacting with brand are interacting. The most important thing of BX design system is that BX design system plays a very important role when consumers choose goods or services of some brand at the various touch points of brand in the process that consumers form the certain brand image. This study suggests the final completed brand design draft plan along with brand design system development strategy conducted about JUNGGANEGOTGAN based on BX design. As a result, modeling and associations of JUNGGANEGOTGAN brand experience design seem to be statistically meaningful (F=30.961, p<.001). Preferences of brand design is rated by modeling (=.443, p<.001), associations (=.218, p<.001) in order and it turns out to be affected.

Effects of Combine Harvesting and Drying Methods on Grain Quality in Rice Cultivars (벼 품종의 콤바인 수확과 건조방법에 따른 미입질의 변화)

  • Currently, mechanization and automation have been introduced into rice harvest and drying process due to the shortage of man power. After rice cultivars, Chucheong and Milyang #23 were cutted with manual method (H1) or harvested with combine (H2), the threshed grain were dried in natural sun-drying (D1), in natural air in-bin system (D2), or in contineous hot-air drier (D3). We have evaluated grain losses, operation hour, and grain quality on each harvest and drying methods. Shattering loss during harvesting with combine was not dirfered significant from that of manual method, but threshing loss was 1.2% higher in combine harvest than in manual. Operation hours required for combine harvest was 3.5 times faster than for manual, even without head threshing. There was a significant difference bel ween cultivars in harvesting loss, which Milyang #23, a Tongil rice had two times more grain loss than Chucheong, a Japonica rice. Drying hours required to reduce to 14% grain moisture content were ten days for H1D1, 5-9 days for H2 D1, 2-3 days for H2D2, and only 15 hours for H2D3, respectively. In grain quality, complete grain ratio after dehulling was decreased about four percent in H2D3 compared to H1D1. while it was lower in Milyang #23 than in Chucheong, Hot-air drier increased occurence of cracked and broken grain. Combine harvest increased significantly these incomplete grain ratio of :Milyang #23, but not Chucheong.

A Study on the Unit Space 'MARI' of the Private Houses in the Insular Areas of Southwestern Sea (남서해 도서 민가의 '마리' 공간 연구)

  • This study mainly examined the unit space (room) called 'MARI' of the private houses that were built between the 19c and the early 20c in the insular areas of southwestern sea. Generally, this region has unique historicity (restructure of the insular environment in the 17c and the 18c) and geographic environment that are different from inland regions thus the environment is presumed as a related factor to developments and structures of the private houses. 'MARI' is a noticeable space that is installed in a main building without an exception even in small 3 bedroom private houses. Its nature has location and usage distinctions in an architectural plan with similar 'MARU' of inland Jeollanam-Do. There are large crocks filled with grains at MARI. Thus, MARI is a storage room. Mostly rice and various other kinds of grains are stored in the several crocks, large and small. Many household goods are kept here as well. Another peculiar function of MARI is that this space commonly enshrines ancestral tablets of three generations. Hence, MARI takes a role of a shrine of an aristocratic house from an inland region. Considering the size of the house and space, this seems to be a very unprecedented utilization of area. MARI is located at the top (at the head of the house) on the floor plan. In other words, it is located at the space in the highest rank. The importance of ancestor worship and grains is evinced architecturally. It is really interesting fact that MARI is also located within recently built modern houses (Cheongsan Island, Joyak Island, etc.). Therefore, it can be said that the unique MARI tradition of this region has an intact continuity even today. After all, MARI has a great significance as a unique unit space of insular areas of southwestern sea that is installed in the main buildings of all houses regardless of size and shape of the houses, and their insular locations.

Development of a Rough Rice Handling Equipment for In-Bin Drying and Storage System (개량 곳간용 벼이송장치(移送裝置) 개발(開發))

  • The objective of this study is to develop a grain handling system for loading, unloading and transporting of rough rice stored at the in-bin drying and storage (IBDS) developed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST). A mechanized Fain handling system consisted of a portable auger and a gate was developed and tested. The test results can be summarized as the following: 1) The loading capacity of the handling system developed is $16.2m^3/h$ (8.3 ton/h) for the Indica type rice and $13.0m^3/h$(7.3 ton/h) for the Japonica type. It is greater than that of manual handling as much as 2.5 - 2.7 times. 2) The unloading capacity of the handling system developed is $16.0m^3/h$(8.2 ton/h) for the Indica type rice and $12.6m^3/h$(7.0 ton/h) for the Japonica type. It is greater than that of the manual as much as 4.7 - 5.5 times. 3) For 3-ton capacity of the storage, the loading and unloading can be performed for 20 and 30 minutes by one man operation of equipment. while 60 and 120 minute for the manual of 2 men, respectively. 4) The volumetric efficiency of the system developed is 0.42 - 0.54 and the power efficiency is 4.0 - 4.4. 5) The break-even quantity of the handling system developed is about 38.6 ton($68.7m^3$) of rough rice and the initial investment for the system would be returned within five years for the most owners of the KAIST IBDS system.
