This is a case report and review of literature that deals with hemifacial microsomia corrected by costochondral graft, Lefort I osteotomy and bilateral intraoral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Patient, 23 years old female, had visited to treat the esthetic problem due to a deviation of jaw. On the basis of clinical and radiographic examinations, she was diagnosed as hemifacial microsomia. First, costochondral graft was performed to bridge the defect between glenoid fossa and body of mandible. After 11 months, Patient was performed a Lefort I osteotomy and bilateral intraoral sagittal split ramus osteotomy to create a symmetric jaw. Patient was satisfied with final esthetics and there have been no evidence of infection ill now.
In spite of various bio-functionalities of chitosan, the effects in vivo were still ambiguous because of its low absorption on organism. Therefore, chitosan oligosaccharides (COSs) are necessary to elucidate for an efficient utilization in vivo. COSs were prepared from chitosan using ultrafiltration membrane enzymatic reactor system with MWCO (molecular weight cut-off) 3,000 Da of membrane. Calcium absorption accelerating effect using COSs was examined by two methods, in vitro and in vivo. In vitro experiment, calcium absorption by the addition of COSs in a mixture solution of calcium and phosphate was higher approximately $50\%$ than that by control. In vivo using rats, group taken the diet contained $1\%$ COSs anil calcium chloride decreased about $75\%$ of calcium content excreted from feces, and then, showed about $15\%$ increase in breaking force of femur. These results demonstrated that COSs definitely involved in calcium metabolism in vivo.
Many studies has been conducted concerning prevention of unnecessary complications such as root resorption during orthodontic too th movement under various mechanical forces. Nowadays, the cause of the root resorption is not thought to be confined only to mechanical forces. But the factor that affects bone metabolism are thought to be major one of the predisposing factors. The light microscope and scanning electron microscope were used to the effects of 60 gm, and 100 gm of tipping force on root resorption of cats, which were treated with Etidronate disodium. The results were as follows: 1. In the 60gm control group, hyalinization on the compression site of periodontal ligament appeared after first week and second week. In the 60gm experimental group, it appeared after first week with low frequency. In the 100gm control group it appeared with high frequency by first and second week while in 100gm experimental group, it appeared with low frequency. 2 In the 100gm control group, resorption of the cementum and the alveolar bone rapidly increased after second week. In the 60gm experimental group, resorption or formation of alveolar bone and cementum didn't appear all through the experimental period. 3. In the 100gm control group, formation of cementum and alveolar bone appeared after first week while in the 100gm experimental group, formation of cementum and alveolar bone appeared after second week and fourth week respectively. In the 60gm control group, formation of the cementum didn't appear all through the experimental period. 4. In the control group, the root resolution of 100gm group was higher than that of 60gm group after second week, while in experimental group, root resorption didn't appear regardless of the forces.

In the case of an extraction in the maxillary anterior region, immediate placement of implant-supported fixed prosthesis can be considered as a treatment option. Fewer surgical operations, reduced treatment time, and optimal availability of existing bone are obvious advantages of the method; however, when applied in the continuous maxillary anterior region, inter-implant distance must be carefully considered, as well as accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for predictable outcome. In this case report, immediate placement of two implants in the continuous maxillary anterior along with bone graft following the extraction of root rests, and the restoration of provisional and implant-supported fixed prosthesis on a 63-year-old patient had resulted in both esthetically and functionally satisfactory clinical outcomes.
Bimaxillary Protrusion can be treated effectively in growing patients and in adults with conventional orthodontic therapy. However, In the adult patient, combined surgical and orthodontic treatment modalities may offer distinct advantages over such conventional therapy. In those cases complicate by vertical jaw dysplasia, sagittal dysplasia, or transverse skeletal discrepancy in addition to bimaxillary protrusion, the possibilities of obtaining successful results through orthodontic treatment alone greatly diminish. Surgical retraction of both maxillary and mandibular anterior segments with subapical osteotomies and ostectomies in the extraction site may be a good treatment alternative. Treatment time and possible adverse effects of lengthy orthodontic therapy may be reduced and optimum esthetic improvement may be facilitated. On the following cases, patient who had bimaxillary protrusion with Angle class III malocclusion was treated with combined orthodontic - surgical therapy by anterior subapical segmental osteotomies.

An accurate implant placement with ideal location is significant for long-term success of the implant. An exact evaluation of nearby anatomic structures such as quality of residual bone, an inferior alveolar bone and a maxillary sinus is required. For a prosthetic-driven treatment, planned surgery, precise prosthesis and communication with the patient are significant requisites especially for full-mouth rehabilitation. In this case, the patient with severe alveolar bone resorption had a CT guided surgery supported by CT data and the data from scanning diagnostic wax-up. Afterward, edentulous area was restored by full mouth implant-supported prosthesis by using monolithic zirconia and CAD/CAM technique. This paper reports the outcome of the procedure which was remarkable both esthetically and functionally.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate new bone formation and healing process in rat calvarial bone defects using $BioMesh^{(R)}$. membrane and DFDB. Forty eight rats divided equally into 4 groups of 1 control group and 3 experimental groups. Standardized transosseous circular calvarial defects (8 mm in diameter) were made midparietally. In the control group, the defect was only covered with the soft tissue flap. In the experimental group 1, it was filled with DFDB only, in the experimental group 2, it was covered $BioMesh^{(R)}$. membrane only, and in the experimental group 3, it was filled DFDB and covered with membrane. At the postoperative 1, 2, 4, 8 weeks, rats were sacrificed and histologic and histomorphometric analysis were performed. These results were as follows. In histomorphometric analysis, It showed the greatest amount of new bone formation through experimental in the experimental group 3 (P<0.001). The amount of new bone formation at the central portion of the defect was greater in the experimental group 3 than experimental group 2. $BioMesh^{(R)}$. membrane began to resorb at 1 week and resorbed almost completely at 8 weeks after operation. The collapse of membrane into the defect was observed through the experimental periods in the experimental group 2. In the area of collapsed membrane, new bone formation was restricted. These results suggest that maintenance of some space for new bone to grow is required in the use of $BioMesh^{(R)}$. membrane alone in the defect. It is also thought that use of the membrane may promote new bone growth in DFDB graft.

A retrospective study of 15 cases of ameloblastoma in children and adolescents was performed. During the period of evaluation, 46 patients with ameloblastoma were seen, of which 15(32.6%) cases were in the patients aged 18 years or younger with the mean age of 14.5 years. There was more prevalence in male (1.5: 1). All the cases occured in the mandible, the molar and ramus area was the most frequent location(66.7%), and the most frequent sign was swelling of the face or jaw. Radiographically, 11(73.3%) cases manifested unilocular leion. Cortical expansion and root resorption were presented in 14(93.3%) and 11 (73.3%) cases respectively. Pexiform and plexiform unicystic types were common in the ameloblastoma occured in young patients.

Introduction: This study examined the cumulative resorption of implants placed in a severely atrophic mandible and analyzed the radiologic bone resorption in the marginal bone, after an autogenous bone graft including both block and particulates that had been harvested from the ramus and iliac crest. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was performed on patients who had bone grafts for augmentation followed by implant installation in the mandible area from 2003 to 2008. Twelve patients (6 men and 6 women) who received 34 implants in the augmented sites were evaluated. Cumulative radiologic resorption around the implants was measured immediately, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after implant installation surgery. Results: The installed implant in grafted bone showed 0.84 mm marginal bone resorption after 3 months and 50% total cumulative resorption after 1 year. The mean marginal bone resorption around the implant installed in the grafted bone was 0.44 mm after 3 months, 0.52 mm after 1 year, after which it stabilized. The implant survival rate was 97% (failed implant was 1/34). Marginal bone resorption of the installed implant in the autogenous onlay block bone grafts was 0.98 mm after 3 months, which was significantly higher than that of a particulated bone graft (0.74 mm) (P <0.05). Conclusion: An autogenous graft including block type and particulate type is a predictable procedure for the use of dental implants in a severely atrophic mandible. Implant placement in augmented areas show a relatively high survival and minimal bone loss, as revealed by a radiologic evaluation.

Introduction: Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a common procedure for the treatment of bone defects and bone augmentation. The nonresorbable barriers are well-documented barriers for GBR because of their stability and malleability. However, few GBR studies have focused on the different types of non-resorbable barriers. Therefore, this study examined the clinical results of different non-resorbable barriers for GBR; expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE) (TR-Gore Tex, Flagstaff, AZ, USA), and high-density polytetrafluoroethylene (d-PTFE) (Cytoplast membrane, Oraltronics, Bremen, Germany). Materials and Methods: The analysis was performed on patients treated with GBR and implant placement from January 2007 to October 2007 in the department of the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. The patients were divided into two groups based on the type of non-resorbable barrier used, and the amount of bone regeneration, marginal bone resorption after prosthetics, implant survival rate and surgical complication in both groups were evaluated. Results: The implants in both groups showed high survival rates, and the implant-supported prostheses functioned stably during the follow-up period. During the second surgery of the implant, all horizontal defects were filled with new bone, and there was no significant difference in the amount of vertical bone defect. Conclusion: In bone defect areas, GBR with non-resorbable barriers can produce favorable results with adequate postoperative management. There was no significant difference in bone regeneration between e-PTFE and d-PTFE.
