This study derived production-production multipliers using a regional input-output table and estimated the induced effect of aggregates through the non-metallic minerals sector and the concrete products sector. In deriving the induced effect of aggregates, it is difficult to use the regional input-output table due to the sector classification problem. This study analyzed the non-metallic mineral sector, including aggregates, as aggregates sector, and the concrete products sector, which uses most of the aggregate production. By analyzing this, we attempted to alleviate difficulties caused by sector classification restrictions. In the process of estimating the induced effect, it was assumed that there was a decrease in aggregate production, and in the process of analyzing the concrete products sector, the effect of the decrease in concrete product production due to the decrease in aggregate production, that is, the decrease in production of one unit of aggregate was 0.8511 in the concrete product sector. The analysis was conducted on the premise of a decrease in unit production. Inducing effects within and between regions were calculated for the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces classified by the regional input-output table. The employment effect was also calculated, assuming a 10% production decrease to show differences according to the size of the aggregate and concrete product sectors in each region.

In this study, recycled aggregate and natural aggregate were mixed in advance using an aggregate mixing facility that was developed to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete. Then the mixed aggregate was applied and concrete characteristics before and after a mix were considered. Based on the findings extracted, this study aimed to suggest a new direction for quality stabilization and application activation of recycled aggregate. The test results of change rates of mortars and coarse aggregates in fresh concrete mixed by a concrete mixer, before and after mixing aggregates showed that the variations of the mortars and coarse aggregates in the concrete mixed with the aggregates beforehand were decreased than those in the concrete before mixing them. The variation of compressive strength and the mean compressive strength at the ages of 3 and 7 days showed similar results before and after the aggregates were mixed, and the strength at the age of 28 days before and after mixing them showed larger deviation than that at the ages of 3 and 7 days. The use of the mixed aggregates after mixing aggregates beforehand reduced the variation in strength and is believed that it is advantageous for long-age strength development. The above results show that the variations of coarse aggregates and compressive strength in the concrete using the mixed aggregates produced by mixing recycled aggregates and natural aggregates beforehand are reduced so it will be possible to produce the homogeneous concrete by mixing aggregates beforehand.
In 2019, at 147 local governments, a total of 872 operations produced aggregates with 414 operations by permission, 458 operations by declaration except the marine operations. The leading aggregate sources were, in descending order of the number of operations, crushed, forest, land, washing, river aggregate. By aggregate type, gravel-only operations were slightly more than sand-only ones. By province, Gyeongsangbuk-do had 149 operations, followed by Gyeonggi-do with 135, Gangwon-do with 113, and Gyeongsangnam-do with 92, Chungcheongbuk-do with 81, and Jeollabuk-do with 70. A review of production by size of operation indicated that about 23,100 thousand m3 (17.6% of the total aggregate) was produced by 17 operations reporting production of more than 1 million m3, about 29,900 thousand m3 was produced by 44 operations reporting production between 500 and <1,000 thousand m3, about 60,000 thousand m3 was produced by 273 operations reporting production between 100 and <200 thousand m3, about 17,000 thousand m3 was produced by 409 operations reporting production between 10 and <100 thousand m3. 129 operations that producted less than 10 thousand m3 accounted for 0.4% of total aggregate produced in Korea in 2019. Operations that produce more than 1 million m3 of aggregate was only from forest and crushed aggregate. The period of permission for aggregate producing based on permission is mostly less than 10 years, and in particular, for river and land aggregates, the permission period is very short, less than 2 years.

In Korea, reutilization of construction waste is gaining attention as construction waste generated increases continuously. Currently, the concrete waste is simply crushed and used as a low value application such as paving, back filling, etc. To meet the demand of aggregate for construction and the resource efficiently, production of high quality recycled aggregate is necessary. Therefore, in this study, a better process for production of high quality recycled aggregate was developed using combination of heat pretreatment and autogenous milling. Test results showed that the recycled aggregate has a density of $2.5\;g/cm^3$ and a water absorption ratio of 3.0%, which meet the specification of the first class of KS F 2573. Currently, a pilot scale autogenous mill is being constructed and tests will be further conducted to develop a commerce-scale process.
The research conducted to study the potential practicability of recycled aggregate concrete by analyzing the characteristics of concretes made of recycled quality aggregates produced by wet and dry process has found the following results. The air content of recycled aggregate concrete increased with increase of the substitut on rate due to mortar included while producing recycled aggregates. However, the concretes with aggregate produced by dry process had relatively low rate of increase in air content. The slump showed generally decreasing trend as the substitution rate of recycled aggregate increased regardless of the wet or dry process. It was assumed that the mortar particles remained in recycled aggregate absorbed the surplus hydration in concrete and decreased fluidity The compressive strength generally decreased as the substitution rate of recycled aggregate increased, however there was an increasing trend as well due to decreasing effect of water-cement ratio when the substitution rate of recycled aggregate reached 25, 50% after mix. This phenomena also appeared in early age, which meant that recycled aggregate concrete should not be retarded in setting when applied in the field. The tensile strength also reached the maximum when wet or dry recycled aggregate replaced with 25%. To conclude, recycled aggregates for concrete produced by wet or dry process are expected to demonstrate essential characteristics of concrete without significant decline in physical or dynamic quality when the substitution rate is below 25% although there are variations subject to water-cement ratio. However, slight differences are expected due to types of recycled aggregate and physical quality.
In this study, the high qualify recycled fine aggregate manufacturing system by the drying specific gravity separation method was evaluated. For the evaluation of the performance of the recycled aggregate, the engineering properties and durability of recycled aggregate has been tested. From the test results, the quality of recycled fing aggregates was improved by high quality recycled fine aggregate manufacturing system and satisfied with the quality standards of KS and JASS 5. Also, compressive and tensile strengths of recycled concrete show no critical difference caused by recycled fine aggregate replacement ratio. However, durability such as carbonation depth chloride ion penetration depth and drying shrinkage shows more deterioration than the concrete without recycled fine aggregate

Recently, the amount of disposed construction materials like demolished concrete is growing fast and the shortage of natural concrete aggregate is becoming serious. Therefore, recycling of aggregate extracted from the demolished concrete is getting important and use of the recycled aggregate for concrete has been seriously considered. However, the use of the recycled aggregate even for low performance concrete is very limited because recycled aggregate which contains large amount of old mortar has very low quality. Therefore, removing the paste sticked to the recycled aggregate is very important in the manufacturing of high quality recycled aggregate. We have studied a series of research according to complex crushing method, which is removed the ingredient of cement paste from recycled fine aggregate using both the low speed wet abrasion crusher as mechanical process and the acid treatment as chemical processes. This paper is to analyze the quality of the recycled fine aggregate produced by those complex method and investigate optimum manufacturing condition for recycled fine aggregate by the design of experiments. The experimental parameters considered are water ratio, coase aggregate ratio, and abrasion time. As a result, data concerning the properties of recycled sand were obtained. It was found that high quality recycled fine aggregate could be to obtain at the condition of the fifteen minute of abrasion-crusher time and the over 1.0 of recycled coarse aggregate ratio.

In general, the waste concrete is simply crushed and reused as a recycled aggregate at a low value application such as back filling material. It because that the quality of recycled aggregate is lower than one of natural aggregate due to the insufficient liberation of aggregate and cement mortar. So in this study, the liberation characteristics of liberation of aggregate and cement mortar is analyzed to investigate the limitation of conventional crushing stage at waste concrete processing circuit. In this process, thermal treatment method is evaluated for the enhancement of liberation. From test results, the preferential breakage along the grain boundary is not accomplished by the conventional crushers. It leads a low quality of recycled aggregate and a fracture of aggregate. To solve these problems, gentle breakage is used as a breakage mechanism to induce preferential breakage along the grain boundary. The recycled aggregate produced from the free fall test, which adopts a gentle breakage, shows a better liberation characteristics and a higher quality.
