  • Subgena and clypeus are a continuous plate, so should be collectively called as peristoma. Subsequently, subgenal sulcus is revised into peristomal sulcus or cranio-stomal sulcus. Ptilinal suture on dipteran adult head is revised into ptilinal fissure. Notal and pleural wing processes are revised into notal and pleural process, respectively. The lower plate of abdomen is ventum, while that of thorax is sternum.

  • Different English terms indicating a same part in insect head were arranged according to position and function, and their corresponding different Korean terms were suggested. The terms include lines on head surface, head regions of embryo, external and internal skeletons, internal parts of mouth, long mouths, external parts and basic segments of antenna, antennal shapes, and hairs on surface.

  • Five species of the Laboulbeniales are reported to the Korean mycoflora. They are Laboulbenia acupalpi Spegazzini on Acupalpus hilaris Tschitscherine, L. pseudomasei Thaxter on Anoplogenius cyanescens(Hope), Rickia peyerimhoffii Maire on Scaphidium femorale Lewis, Zodiomyces odae Majewski et Sugiyama on Sternolophus rufipes Fabr. and Z. vorticellarius Thaxter on Berosus fairmairei Zaitzev. Among these species L. pseudomasei Thaxter and Z. odae Majewski et Sugiyama are the first report to South Korea. L. acupalpi Spegazzini and Z. vorticellarius Thaxter found on species which are different from previous to host insects. R. peyerimhoffii Maire is newly described main land of Korea, although it was reported from Jeju island.

  • This study was carried out to know the insect fauna of turf grass area in forest. In Korea, graves and public cemetery in mountain areas are usually covered by turf grass which were mainly examined. There were 86 species belonging to 77 genera of 39 families in 11 orders. Among them, site 3 had highest occurrence (38%), second was site 2 (36%) and in the last place was site 1 (26%). Hemiptera revealed best species composition (29.1%) and came Coleoptera (19.8%), Orthoptera (15.1%), Lepidoptera (12.8%) and Odonata (5.8%) etc. The reason why Hemiptera and Orthoptera are mainly found in these areas is because they usually feed on short plants that grow in there. Taxonomic species composition, occurrence ratio by site and species and comparison analysis were provided.

  • In this study, the "Insect Smart Farm Air Conditioning System" is designed and proposed for the control of breeding environment of Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis larvae. The proposed "Insect Smart Farm Air Conditioning System" separates the breeding room from the air conditioning room. It is a system that creates an environment optimized for breeding and distributes it into a breeding room. When controlling the environment through air-conditioning and humidifiers in insect farms, temperature and humidity vary from part of the breeding room to part. The solution to the problem can be suggested as a solution to the difficulty of producing white-spotted flower mounds of uniform size and weight when selling edible insects. By using the "Insect Smart Farm Air Conditioning System," the temperature difference can be reduced by 6℃ and the humidity difference by 24.7% compared to the environmental control of existing insect farms. The temperature and humidity of different parts of the breeding room were improved. Provide the optimal environment of Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis larvae at all times and ensure uniform CO2 concentration. It can be expected to increase output through annual production and increase income for insect farmers. The proposed "Insecting Smart Farm Air Conditioning System" also controls the set temperature, humidity and CO2. Environmental control of the breeding of other edible insects and the reproduction of mushrooms that require environmental control in breeding or breeding will also be possible.

  • The pine mushroom fruit body have a harvest only from natural pine forest instead of artificial culture like other edible mushrooms until now on. We investigated the interrelationship between pine mushroom colonies and insect/invertebrates fauna, and changes of their seasonal populations. Two famous pine mushroom producing district were selected on Bong-wha and Gan-sung Eup, and were surveyed on the ground and in the soil with/without pine mushroom hyphae per month from June to November, 2005. There was some difference in collected Insects and invertebrates between two producing districts. Total number of collected species and individuals were 73 and 22, and 63 individuals with 19 species in Bon-wha and Gan-sung area, respectively. Otherwise, there were many mites and nematodes were living in soil with mushroom hyphae. The population densities of mites were Increased to November from June, however, the population of nematodes were fluctuated with low in hot weather and high in cool.

  • Plant secondary metabolites play an important role in insect-plant interactions. Herbivorous insects have various strategies to cope with the plant defensive compounds. Polyphagous insects feed on a wide variety of plant species, and their detoxification mechanisms are more complex since they tend to respond to a large array of different plant-derived chemicals. Alternatively, oligophagous insects specialize on only a few related plant species and may be expected to have a more efficient form of adaptation. This adaptation could involve either the production of large quantities of enzymes to detoxify their defensive compounds or the sequestration of the compounds or their metabolites. The oriental tobacco budworm, Helicoverpa assulta, is a specialist herbivore, feeding on a few plants of Solanaceae, such as tobacco and hot pepper. Understanding its host-plant adaptation not provides an important insight on physiology, ecology and evolution of specialist herbivores, but also gives a clue to develop management strategies of the pest species such as H. assulta. This paper briefly reviews the specialist, H. assulta, focusing on its host range, larval associations with the host plants, and detoxification mechanisms to nicotine and capsaicin, two characteristic defensive compounds derived from its two major host plants, tobacco and hot pepper, respectively. It summarizes the relevant research over the last half century and provides a future perspective on this subject.
