A Study of Bending Using Long Type Coil by Discrete Method (다분할 해석법에 의한 장형코일의 곡가공 연구)

  • The induction heating is more efficient for a plate bending because of its easy operation and control of working parameters, compared with the heating by a gas torch. The existing axis symmetric analysis method could neither handle initial curved plates nor be used in the optimization of coil shapes because of its limit of an axis symmetric coil shape. But the proposed method using some discrete part models and analysis processes could overcome these difficulties and show more accurate results in temperatures and deflections of flat or curved plates with initial curvature than those in the existing axis symmetric analysis method. This method is composed of the multi-disciplinary analyses such as an electro magnetic analysis, a heat transfer analysis and a deformation analysis based on inherent strain approach per each step. Traditionally, the coil shape in the induction heating is circular shape and it needs the moving process along heating lines. To overcome this, the 'Long Type Coil' with some linear parallel coils was proposed. It did not need the moving process along heating lines and reduced the heating process time. The results of experiments were compared with those of the simulation.

Performance Evaluation of Hydraulic and Magnetic Clamp Crane for Transporting Curved Steel Plate for Shipbuilding, with Permanent Magnet Applied (영구자석을 적용한 선박용 곡면 철판 이송용 유압식 마그네틱 클램프 이송장치의 성능평가에 대한 고찰)

  • As a new technical approach, a hydraulic and magnetic clamp device was developed to realize a magnetic clamp crane system by simultaneously actuating eight individual hydraulic cylinders. In this approach, an Sr-type of ferritic permanent magnet (SrO· 6Fe2O3), rather than the previous electromagnet, was utilized for the purpose of lifting and transporting the large curved steel plates used for manufacturing ships. This study had the goal of developing and manufacturing a hydraulic, magnetic clamp prototype composed of three main parts, including the base frame, cylinder joint, and magnet joint, in order to safely transport curved steel plates. Furthermore, this research included a performance evaluation of the manufactured prototype and acquired the purposed quantity value in the performance test. The most significant item, the magnetic adhesive force (G), was evaluated in a performance test, which utilized a ferritic permanent magnet (Sr type) with 3700~4000 G of residual induction (Br) and 2640/2770 Oe of coercive force (Hc). In particular, relevant items such as the hoist tension (kN), transportation time (s), and applied load (Kgf) on the hydraulic cylinders were also evaluated in order to determine the optimum values.

Simulation of Plate Deformation by Triangle Heating Process (삼각가열에 의한 판 변형의 시뮬레이션)

  • Plate bending process is indispensible in shipbuilding. The process includes press bending process and heating process. Especially the heating process is carried out exclusively by skillful workers. Many researches have been made to automate the heating process. This study was carried out as a fundamental study to develop a efficient analysis method for triangle heating and focused on clarifying the deformation characteristics of plate by triangle heating and essential elements effect on the deformation. In this paper, we proposed an analysis model for thermal-elastic-plastic analysis and simulated the deformation by triangle heating using ANSYS based on the experimental results of Jang et al.(2001). Also, we showed the deformation characteristics more clearly by comparing the deformation due to triangle heating and line heating in case that the total heat input is same. Finally, we investigated the change characteristics of deformation elements according to the volumetric heat input.

Simulation of Curved Surface Forming of Steel Plate by Induction Heating (유도 가열을 이용한 강판의 곡면 성형 시뮬레이션)

  • Ship hull is a compound curved shape and most of shipyards have been using gas heating method for the surface forming of steel plate. This traditional forming process have problems such as difficulties in heat input control and poor working conditions due to loud noise and air contamination. Recently, researches on automatic hull forming system have been conducted using high frequency induction heating method which have good control ability and favorable working environment. In this study, the induction heating simulation system for curved surface forming of steel plate was developed and induction heating experiments were performed. Based on the results of this study, efficient induction heating coil design and optimal heating conditions for the automatic hull forming system can be obtained.

A Study on Classification Algorithm of Arbitrary Polygon Curved Hull Plates for the Curved Hull Plates Forming (곡가공을 위한 임의 다각형 곡판 분류 알고리즘 연구)

  • In general, the forming process of the curved hull plates consists of sub tasks, such as roll bending, line heating, and triangle heating. In order to complement the automated curved hull forming system, it is necessary to develop an algorithm to classify the curved hull plates of a ship into standard shapes with respect to the techniques of forming task, such as the roll bending, the line heating, and the triangle heating. In the previous research, the classification algorithm of curved hull plates was studied only about rectangle shaped plates, and other limitations were notified. In this paper, the classification algorithm is extended to classify not only rectangle shaped plates but also arbitrary polygon hull plates. The discrete curvature can be computed by using arbitrary polygon mesh which is represented by half-edge data structure and discrete differential geometry. The algorithm tests to verify the developed algorithm with sample plates of a real ship data have been performed.

  • In shipyard, plate forming is widely used to form the ship hull plate in various shapes. Line heating method by using a flame torch is one of the major shipbuilding processes carried out by skilled workers. Since the forming characteristics depend upon their experiences in manual forming, there are much variations between products and difficulties in communication between engineers and workers. Hence, it needs to develop an automatic forming system which can not only reduce the working time and rework costs but also improve the working environment and hull forming productivity. One of the final goals of plate forming automation is to form a target shape from the initial plate automatically. For automated plate forming, it is required to determine where and how to heat on the plate. To realize this procedure, the inverse problem should be first solved and the effect of curvature shape formed at the heating path should be investigated. In this study, the inverse problem was solved by geometrical approach using the relationship between bending angle and radius of curvature of the curved shape. In addition, experiments of two-dimensional plate forming were performed with the distance-based method considering the curved bending with curvature. The result of the formed shape agreed considerably well with the target shape.

Analysis of Process Parameters in the Incremental Roll Forming Process for the Application to Doubly Curved Ship Hull Plate (점진적 롤 성형 공정의 선박 곡가공 적용을 위한 공정 변수 분석)

  • In order to make a doubly-cowed sheet metal effectively, the sheet metal forming process has been developed by adopting the flexibility of the incremental forming process and the principle of bending deformation which causes slight deformation in thickness. The developed process is an unconstrained forming process without holder. The experimental equipment has been set up with the roll set which consists of two pairs of support rolls and one center roll. In order to analyze process parameters in the incremental roll forming process for the application to doubly curved ship hull plate, the orthogonal array is adopted. From the FEM results, among the process parameters, the distance between supporting rolls in pairs along the direction of one principal radius of curvature as well as the forming depth is shown to influence the generation of curvature in the same direction significantly. That is, the other distance between supporting rolls in pairs which are not located in the same direction of one principal radius of curvature, does not have an significant effect on the generation of the curvature in that direction. Also, the forming load and torque from the FEM simulation are acceptable to the system development of the incremental roll forming process for the forming of ship hull plate.
