To improve performance using a multidimensional index in similar sequence matching, we transform a high-dimensional sequence to a low-dimensional sequence, and then construct a low-dimensional MBR that contains multiple transformed sequences. In this paper we propose a formal method that transforms a high-dimensional MBR itself to a low-dimensional MBR, and show that this method significantly reduces the number of lower-dimensional transformations. To achieve this goal, we first formally define the new notion of MBR-safe. We say that a transform is MBR-safe if a low-dimensional MBR to which a high-dimensional MBR is transformed by the transform contains every individual low-dimensional sequence to which a high-dimensional sequence is transformed. We then propose two MBR-safe transforms based on DFT and DCT, the most representative lower-dimensional transformations. For this, we prove the traditional DFT and DCT are not MBR-safe, and define new transforms, called mbrDFT and mbrDCT, by extending DFT and DCT, respectively. We also formally prove these mbrDFT and mbrDCT are MBR-safe. Moreover, we show that mbrDFT(or mbrDCT) is optimal among the DFT-based(or DCT-based) MBR-safe transforms that directly convert a high-dimensional MBR itself into a low-dimensional MBR. Analytical and experimental results show that the proposed mbrDFT and mbrDCT reduce the number of lower-dimensional transformations drastically, and improve performance significantly compared with the $na\"{\i}ve$ transforms. These results indicate that our MBR- safe transforms provides a useful framework for a variety of applications that require the lower-dimensional transformation of high-dimensional MBRs.
In genetic association studies with high-dimensional genomic data, regularization procedures based on penalized likelihood are often applied to identify genes or genetic regions associated with diseases or traits. A network-based regularization procedure can utilize biological network information (such as genetic pathways and signaling pathways in genetic association studies) with an outstanding selection performance over other regularization procedures such as lasso and elastic-net. However, network-based regularization has a limitation because cannot be applied to high-dimension genomic data with a group structure. In this article, we propose to combine data dimension reduction techniques such as principal component analysis and a partial least square into network-based regularization for the analysis of high-dimensional genomic data with a group structure. The selection performance of the proposed method was evaluated by extensive simulation studies. The proposed method was also applied to real DNA methylation data generated from Illumina Innium HumanMethylation27K BeadChip, where methylation beta values of around 20,000 CpG sites over 12,770 genes were compared between 123 ovarian cancer patients and 152 healthy controls. This analysis was also able to indicate a few cancer-related genes.
In this study, 1 investigated some properties on the special hyper-dimensional figures made by the principle of the performance of equivalent forms representation. I supposed 2 definitions on the making n-dimensional figure : a cone type(hypercube) and a pillar type(simplex). We can explain that there exists only 6 4-dimensional regular polytopes as there exists only 5 regular polygons. And there are many hyper-dimensional figures, they all have sufficient condition to show the general Euler' Characteristics. And especially, we could certificate that the simplest cone type and pillar types are fitted to Pascal's Triangle and Hasse's Diagram, each other.

Clustering is a process of dividing similar data objects in data set into clusters and acquiring meaningful information in the data. The main issues related to clustering are the effective clustering of high dimensional data and optimization. This study proposed a method of measuring similarity based on SVM and a new method of calculating the number of clusters in an efficient way. The high dimensional data are mapped to Feature Space ones using kernel functions and then similarity between neighboring clusters is measured. As for created clusters, the desired number of clusters can be got using the value of similarity measured and the value of Δd. In order to verify the proposed methods, the author used data of six UCI Machine Learning Repositories and obtained the presented number of clusters as well as improved cohesiveness compared to the results of previous researches.

Similarity indexing and searching are well known to be difficult in high-dimensional applications such as multimedia databases. Especially, they become more difficult when multiple features have to be indexed together. In this paper, we propose a novel indexing method called the GB-index that is designed to efficiently handle complex similarity queries as well as relevance feedback in high-dimensional image databases. In order to provide the flexibility in controlling multiple features and query objects, the GB-index treats each dimension independently The efficiency of the GB-index is realized by specialized bitmap indexing that represents all objects in a database as a set of bitmaps. Main contributions of the GB-index are three-fold: (1) It provides a novel way to index high-dimensional data; (2) It efficiently handles complex similarity queries; and (3) Disjunctive queries driven by relevance feedback are efficiently treated. Empirical results demonstrate that the GB-index achieves great speedups over the sequential scan and the VA-file.
Although conventional index structures provide various nearest-neighbor search algorithms for high-dimensional data, there are additional requirements to increase search performances as well as to support index scalability for large scale data. To support these requirements, we propose a distributed high-dimensional indexing structure based on cluster systems, called a Distributed Vector Approximation-tree (DVA-tree), which is a two-level structure consisting of a hybrid spill-tree and VA-files. We also describe the algorithms used for constructing the DVA-tree over multiple machines and performing distributed k-nearest neighbors (NN) searches. To evaluate the performance of the DVA-tree, we conduct an experimental study using both real and synthetic datasets. The results show that our proposed method contributes to significant performance advantages over existing index structures on difference kinds of datasets.
Traditional works on indexing have been suggested for low dimensional data under dynamic environments. But recent database applications require efficient processing of huge sire of high dimensional data under static environments. Thus many indexing strategies suggested especially in partitioning ones do not adapt to these new environments. In our study, we point out these facts and propose a new partitioning strategy, which complies with new applications' requirements and is derived from analysis. As a preliminary step to propose our method, we apply a packing technique on the one hand and exploit observations on the Minkowski-sum cost model on the other, under uniform data distribution. Observations predict that unbalanced partitioning strategy may be more query-efficient than balanced partitioning strategy for high dimensional data. Thus we propose our method, called CSP (Cyclic Spliced Partitioning method). Analysis on this method explicitly suggests metrics on how to partition high dimensional data. By the cost model, simulations, and experiments, we show excellent performance of our method over balanced strategy. By experimental studies on other indices and packing methods, we also show the superiority of our method.
In this paper, we propose the LPC+-file for efficient indexing of high-dimensional image data. With the proliferation of multimedia data, there Is an increasing need to support the indexing and retrieval of high-dimensional image data. Recently, the LPC-file (5) that based on vector approximation has been developed for indexing high-dimensional data. The LPC-file gives good performance especially when the dataset is uniformly distributed. However, compared with for the uniformly distributed dataset, its performance degrades when the dataset is clustered. We improve the performance of the LPC-file for the strongly clustered image dataset. The basic idea is to adaptively partition the data space to find subspaces with high-density clusters and to assign more bits to them than others to increase the discriminatory power of the approximation of vectors. The total number of bits used to represent vector approximations is rather less than that of the LPC-file since the partitioned cells in the LPC+-file share the bits. An empirical evaluation shows that the LPC+-file results in significant performance improvements for real image data sets which are strongly clustered.
Recent recommendation systems are developing toward the utilization of high-dimensional data. However, high-dimensional data can increase algorithm complexity by expanding dimensions and be lower the accuracy of recommended items. In addition, it can cause the problem of data sparsity and make it difficult to provide users with proper recommended items. This study proposed an algorithm that classify users' subjective data with objective criteria with fuzzy-AHP and make use of rules with repetitive patterns through fuzzy association rules. Trying to check how problems with high-dimensional data would be mitigated by the algorithm, we performed 5-fold cross validation according to the changing number of users. The results show that the algorithm-applied system recorded accuracy that was 12.5% higher than that of the fuzzy-AHP-applied system and mitigated the problem of data sparsity.
