  • The ecosystem is the complex system consisting of various biotic and abiotic factors and the factors interact with each other in the hierarchical predator-prey relationship. Since the competitive relation spatiotemporally occurs, the initial state of population density and species distribution are likely to play an important role in the stability of the ecosystem. In the present study, we constructed a lattice model to simulate the three-trophic ecosystem (predatorprey- plant) and using the model, explored how the ecosystem stability is affected by the initial density. The size of lattice space was $L{\times}L$, (L=100) with periodic boundary condition. The initial density of the plant was arbitrarily set as the value of 0.2. The simulation result showed that predator and prey coexist when the density of predator is less than or equal to 0.4 and the density of prey is less than or equal to 0.5. On the other hand, when the predator density is more than or equal to 0.5 and the density of prey is more than or equal to 0.6, both of predator and prey were extinct. In addition, we found that the strong nonlinearity in the interaction between species was observed in the border area between the coexistence and extinction in the species density space.

  • In this paper, we model a traffic of multiple tags operated in 2.45GHz band RTLS environment and analyze the multi-tag interference. Also, we propose a high precision location estimation algorithm of RTLS and then analyze its performance. From the results, the BER performance of RTLS degrades as the number of multi-tags increase in Gaussian noise and fading(m=15) environment. To meet the BER specification of RTLS, $10^{-5}$, we have to limit the multi-tag number to below 40. We also estimate the tag's location in $250m{\times}250m$ searching-area with enhanced TDOA scheme. It is confirmed that the 3m radius within accuracy of RTLS specification is satisfied, if the number of sub-blink receives more than 2 when available reader is 3 to 8.

  • A motion capture system is widely used in movies, computer game, and computer animation industries because it allows for creating realistic human motions efficiently. The inertial motion capture system has several advantages over more popular vision-based systems in terms of the required space and cost. However, it suffers from low accuracy due to the relatively high noise levels of the inertial sensors. In particular, the accelerometer used for measuring gravity direction loses the accuracy when the sensor is moving with non-zero linear acceleration. In this paper, we propose a method to remove the linear acceleration component from the accelerometer data in order to improve the accuracy of measuring gravity direction. In addition, we develop a simple method to calibrate the joint axis of a link to which an inertial sensor belongs as well as the position of a sensor with respect to the link. The calibration enables attaching inertial sensors in an arbitrary position and orientation with respect to a link.

  • This paper presents digital microflow controllers(DMFC), where a fluidic digital-to-analog converter(DAC) is used to achieve high-linearity, fine-level flow control for applications to precision biomedical dosing systems. The fluidic DAC, composed of binary-weighted flow resistance, controls the flow-rate based on the ratio of the flow resistance to achieve high-precision flow-rate control. The binary-weighted flow resistance has been specified by a serial or a parallel connection of an identical flow resistor to improve the linearity of the flow-rate control, thereby making the flow-resistance ratio insensitive to the size uncertainty in flow resistors due to micromachining errors. We have designed and fabricated three different types of 4-digit DMFC: Prototype S and P are composed of the serial and the parallel combinations of an identical flow resistor, while Prototype V is based on the width-varied flow resistors. In the experimental study, we perform a static test for DMFC at the forward and backward flow conditions as well as a dynamic tests at pulsating flow conditions. The fabricated DMFC shows the nonlinearity of 5.0% and the flow-rate levels of 16(2$^{N}$) for the digital control of 4(N) valves. Among the 4-digit DMFC fabricated with micromachining errors, Prototypes S and P show 27.2% and 27.6% of the flow-rate deviation measured from Prototype V, respectively; thus verifying that Prototypes S and P are less sensitive to the micromachining error than Prototype V.V.

  • The Global Positioning System is a navigation system that has been developed by the United States for military use. Currently, many countries, including the Republic of Korea, use GPS for civilian and military uses. However, as useful as it is, GPS is vulnerable to its Jamming signal, as the strength of the signal from satellites is very weak. In this paper, a novel jamming signal detection and cancellation method is proposed when a narrow-band jamming signal is included in the GPS received signal. At the GPS receiver, the received signal is transformed to a frequency domain sample by Fast Fourier Transform. In order to suppress the Spectral Leakage, the Blackman-Harris window is used. The proposed jamming signal cancellation algorithm will find the frequency sample with maximum power and null the maximum sample in addition to some lateral samples. If the GPS receiver is designed with FFT of size 128 to 512, it is shown that 42 samples are optimal to cancel the narrow-band jamming signal.

  • The propulsive characteristics of oscillating flat plates are investigated using a discrete vortex method. The plates and their wakes are represented by discrete point vortices. To analyze the closely coupled aerodynamic interference between the plates, a vortex core model and a vortex core addition scheme are combined. A calculated wake shape for a flat plate in heaving oscillation is compared with flow visualization. The effect of wake shapes on the propulsive characteristics of the plates in pitching oscillation is investigated. The propulsive characteristics of oscillating plates with three cases (1. one is stationary and another is oscillating, 2. both oscillating in phase, 3. both oscillating out of phase) are calculated. The plates oscillating out of phase showed the largest thrust force among the three cases.

  • To compare the stress distribution patterns between cement-retained and screw-retained implant supported fixed prostheses according to four different abutment types, a three dimensional finite element analysis was performed. The hypothetical three unit fixed partial denture case was modelled on the three implants(10mm length and 3.75 diameter) in mandibular bone. Four angles of implantation(vertical, 10, 15 and 20 degree inclined mesially) were created and three different directions of force (vertical, oblique, horizontal) were applied at the center of the second premolar and distal end of the first molar for each cases. Within the limits of this study, the results were as follows, 1. In vertically installed cases, the more stress was concentrated at upper components, but mesially inclined cases, the more stress was concentrated at cortical bone. 2, The more inclined mesially the more stress was observed, especially at cortical bone. 3. The cement-retained models showed lower principal stress and more even stress distribution than the screw-retained models. 4. The similar stress distribution pattern was showed in model 1 and model 2, model 3 and model 4. 5. The more stress was observed when the loads were applied at the distal end of 1st molar than the center of 2nd premolar. 6 The fixture and the model as a whole, lesser stress values were observed when vertical loads were applied as compared to horizontal and oblique loads.

  • Axial and lateral behavior of helical piles is generally influenced by number, diameter, helix pitch, and locations of helices. In this study, axial and horizontal behavior of helical piles with three helices was investigated varying helices' locations, diameter, and pitch. Especially, due to the spiral shapes of helices, the effect of lateral load directions at pile heads on their lateral behavior was investigated. Axial load test of small-scale helical pile was conducted in laboratory, and its results were compared with numerical analysis results of the same model for cross check of validity of both results. Furthermore, diverse numerical analyses were performed for different shapes of helical piles. Consequently, it was found that, for the given analysis conditions, the helix diameter was the most influential factor on the horizontal and vertical behavior of helical piles.
