  • A very efficient packet transmission scheme is needed in the radio environment where radio resource is insufficient as compared with the environment of the wired communication. In general, dual mode packet transmission scheme is used broadly. Packets are transmitted through the dedicated or common chamois according to a switching criterion. The general criteria are the length and generation frequency of packet, that is, large and frequent packets are transmitted using a dedicated channel and small and infrequent packets are transmitted using a common channel. The performance of dual mode packet transmission scheme is closely related to the switching criteria. However, it is very difficult to find the optimal switching point because that is not fixed but variable according to the environment such as traffic load, length of generated packets, and the number of channels. In this paper, a new scheme for the dual mode packet transmission scheme using a dynamic switching threshold is proposed where the switching threshold is not fixed but variable according to the network environment. The performance of the proposed method is analyzed using a simulation. From the simulation results, it is shown that the performance of the proposed scheme is not very influenced by the network environment unlike the conventional dual mode packet transmission scheme.

  • Simple-relay aided resource allocation (SRARA) schemes are incorporated with throughput guarantee scheduling (TGS) in IEEE 802.16 type time division duplex - orthogonal frequency division multiple access (TDD-OFDMA) downlink in order to enhance service coverage, where the amount of resources for relaying at each relay is limited due to either its available power which is much smaller than base station (BS) power or the overhead required for exchanging feedback information. The performance of SRARA schemes is evaluated with schedulers such as proportional fair (PF) and TGS at 64kbps and 128kbps user throughput requirements when total MS power is set to 500mW or 1 W. For 64kbps throughput requirement level, more improvement comes from relay than scheduler design. For 128kbps case, it comse from scheduler design than relay due to the fact that simple relay can't help using strictly limited amount of resources for relaying function.

  • We propose an efficient frequency-time domain resource allocation scheme in multi-carrier (MC) direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) communications. We consider, as a power allocation strategy in the frequency domain, transmitting each user's DS waveforms over the user's sub-band with the largest channel gain. We then consider rate adaptation in the time domain, where the data rate is adapted such that a desired transmission quality is maintained. We analyze the achievable average data rate of the proposed scheme with fixed average transmission power, and compare the performance to single carrier DS/CDMA systems with power and rate adaptations.

  • The increment of user at mobile communication system requires the need of increased system capacity. To increase the system capacity can be realized by decreasing the size of cell. But, this method causes various problems. Therefore, it be used the hierarchical cellular system with macrocell and microcell for a efficient working. The users feel more inconvenience about the drop of connected call than the block of new call. Therefore, it is to be desired that the dropping rate of handoff call is lowered. At this paper, we use non reversible hierarchical scheme and fixed channel assignment scheme at the hierarchical cellular system with macrocell and microcell for the call process strategy. We analyze the system performance in accordance with the number of guard channel for handoff.

  • Recently, energy harvesting, in which energy is collected from RF signals, has been regarded as a promising technology to improve the lifetime of sensors by alleviating the lack of power supply problem. In this paper, we try to propose an efficient algorithm for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer. At first, we find the lower bound of water-level using the probability density function of channel, and derive the solution of power allocation in energy harvesting networks. In addition, we derive an efficient power splitting method for satisfying the minimum required harvested energy constraint. The simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme improves the average data rate while guaranteeing the minimum required harvested energy constraint, compared with the conventional scheme. In addition, the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity remarkably with insignificant performance degradation less than 10%, compared to the optimal solution.

  • In this paper, we propose a generalized processor sharing - dynamic resource allocation (GPS-DRA) scheme which allocates the required amount of resources to each hop dynamically in cellular-based multi-hop systems. In the hybrid-distributed system considered in this paper, a central controller such as a base station (BS) should allocate resources properly to each hop. However, due to changing channel condition with time, it is difficult to allocate as much amount of resources as each hop needs for transmission. GPS-DRA scheme allocates the required amount of resources dynamically to each hop based on the amount of resources used in previous frames by each hop. The amount of control overhead generated by GPS-DRA scheme can be very small because a central controller doesn't need to collect all link information for resource allocation. Our simulation results show that channel utilization increased about 16% and cell capacity increased about 65% compared to those of fixed resource allocation (FRA) scheme.

  • Unlike single-hop systems, multi-hop systems that use relay nodes assign a part of the overall resources to relay communications. If efficient resource allocation schemes are not adopted, this leads to a loss of resources. Moreover, because we may not be able to guarantee high-link performance due to the adjacent-cell interference in relay-based cellular systems, resource efficiency can be severely decreased. In this paper, we propose efficient resource allocation schemes for downlink relay-based networks in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced systems. Unlike conventional schemes that have static resource regions for each data link, the proposed schemes dynamically allocate the resources of each link to resource blocks, by considering the channel state and the capacity of each link. We also propose resource overlapping schemes in which two different links overlap at the same resource region, so as to improve cell or user throughput performance. The proposed resource overlapping schemes do not require additional processes such as interference cancellation in users, thank to considering additional interference from resource overlapping in advance.

  • Recently, the demand of mobile communication is rapidly increasing. Also, not only the voice service but also the nonvoice services such as data, FAX, and image service are required. Therefore, in this paper, the voice/data intergraed service methods that will be utilized as a basic core technology of the PCS systems are proposed and their performances are analyzed and compared by computer simulation. According to the simulation results, it could be seen that the performance of voice/data integrated PR-CDMA method is better than that of voice/data integrated broadband CDMA method using a dedicated terminal or a voice/data integrated terminal. The reason is that the voice/data integrated PR-CDMA method can overcome the weak points of CDMA protocol, such as a limitation of the fixed CDMA logical channel number and a falling-off in channel utilization, by using PRMA protocol as a multiple access method that the terminals to which a CDMA logical channel is assigned compete.
