  • How did Japanese who surrender to Joseon reflect in old proses / Seo, Shin-hye This paper is focus on Japanese who surrender to Joseon. I researched how were these people to live through old novel, old tale and old biography. And I researched how these works reflected these people. Usually Japanese who surrender to Joseon were butchers. They were loyal to Joseon and their higher officer to a fare-thee-well. In old proses, writters compared these surrender with Joseon's general. People expect the general loyalty, but he didn't. Because of surrender's loyalty, Joseon's general was seen as an abject coward. This form came out in common in the biography of Gim Yeongcheol, the biography of Gang Hongrip and the biography of Gim Chungseon. But this fact was biased. All of Japanese surrender was not loyal, and they liked fighting in the battle. The singularity of the biography of the butcher who is Buddhist monk attracted our attention. In this work, we can see the surrender's mental conflict. We can realized the people is equal with Joseon's people.

About the Multi-layered Communication of Princess Pari on the Webtoon Platform of Daum -Focusing on Analysis of Narrative Structure and Comments (Daum 웹툰 <바리공주>를 통해 본 고전 기반 웹툰 콘텐츠의 다층적 대화 양상 -서사구조와 댓글 분석을 중심으로)

  • This article analyzes the multi-layered communication in the Webtoon Princess Pari, released on the Daum portal site, created (written and illustrated) by Kim Naim, through analyzing the narrative structure and comments with the qualitative / quantitative methodology. The webtoon Princess Pari is structured in an omnibus style in which unit narratives are intermittently articulated, multi-lined, and interconnected. As integrated narratives which link with unitary narratives, Pari's growth story as a shaman and a romance narrative are structured. The classical original story of the shaman was used as a prehistory corresponding to the prequel of the webtoon through a preview, and the writer restructured the narrative to overcome the contradictions of the gender asymmetry and the patriarchal ideology of the original text. The viewer then creates a conversational space by giving critical and reflective comments. According to a statistical analysis conducted through sampling, the types of comments can be classified as follows: Appreciation and criticism of the contents ≫ Emotional response ≫ Intuitive overall review ≫ Knowledge and reflection ≫ Comments on comments. In the process of creation and acceptance of the Webtoon, a multi-layered dialogue between classical and modern, content and audience, acceptance and creation has been at play. In the creation dimension, the writer used a device to fill the gap of mythical symbols of the contents. At the level of the audience, they formed a culture of sharing information, knowledge, and reflection about tradition/folk/culture through comments. This corresponds to classical and modern dialogue through the webtoon. The viewers form a sympathetic bond, attempt hermeneutical coordination, supplement the information, and search for a balanced angle through controversial conversation. In addition, by commenting on attitudes, views, and perspective, the commentators showed a behavioral pattern corresponding to meta-criticism in literature. The viewers' comments acted as feedback on the creation of the webtoons, so that the creation and acceptance itself influenced the production of the content of the webtoon. The webtoon Princess Pari, which was based on Korean classical narrative, has been reorganized onto 'moving and dynamic' content, which leads to sense, thinking, criticism and reflection through the formation of various dialogues.

  • This study focuses on Ko woo-young (1939-2005), a Korean representative cartoonist. I analyzed his work Nolbudyeon (1988), which is a retelling of Heungbu and Nolbu, a traditional Korean story. I consider Ko woo-young a creative observer who has popularized his perspective in modern society. His work is a good example of how a traditional folktale can be made relevant in modern society. I used three methods of adaptation to differentiate Nolbudyeon from Heungbu story: construction of events, characterizing, and space-time background. First, to aid character development, Nolbudyeon includes a prologue that focuses on conflicts between brothers with different personalities. At the same time, the ambiguous ending could be a response to Heungbu story, which has a didactic theme. Second, I found that the new characters, Nolsun and Yeonsaengwon, enhanced the differences between Heungbu and Nolbu by playing the role of mediators. Also, in Nolbudyeon, both Heungbu and Nolbu had positive as well as negative elements, in contrast with the original story's traditional point of view on good and evil. Finally, by exploring the space-time of Nolbudyeon, we can see that its world is combined with the contemporary world. In other words, Nolbu and Heungbu, though outwardly traditional, have a modern outlook. Therefore, readers can recognize that Nolbudyeon is a metaphor for modern life rather than just an old story.

Understanding aspects of folktale combinations based on the concept of the narrative scheme (서사도식을 통한 설화 결합 양상 이해)

  • There are different variations in folktales. Sometimes folkltales are combined with another folktales. This is probably done to make it an object-oriented narrative in which an epic attempt is made to strengthen an issue that was not resolved earlier, or a context that was not completed. The wood cutter and the heavenly maiden and Snail bride, are commonly noted for their gender relationship. These tales represent issue of continuing relationships between men and women. Particulary, how in the process of doing so, they succumb to their desires. This striving for lasting relationships does not end happily because "the man" in each case was immature and not able to think clearly. Other folktales were combined with these tales to resolve this problem. The man was transformed into a mature person and the wrongdoer's excessive greed was punished. The narrative of the folktales was changed to bring out the epic of growth, or the epic of punishment. This can be understood through the concept of narrative scheme. Folktale combinations in narrative schemes can be used effectively in narrative education.

  • This paper investigates how narrative folk songs have been transmitted and enjoyed through literature data and field research, and discusses their educational significance. Narrative folk songs have changed from songs that were enjoyed by common women to songs enjoyed by upper class men according to the times. They have ranged from tragic songs lamenting hardships to comic songs that relieve oppression, depending on the performance situation. Moreover, narrative folk songs have been enjoyed through media transmission beyond traditional custom. Narrative folk songs have not been enjoyed in one fixed way, but rather in various ways depending on the situation, so they have functioned to enable common women, who are their main singers, to share emotions, communicate, and maintain their community. Therefore, in literature education, narrative folk songs can be used as very appropriate materials for learners to reflect on themselves, communicate with others and contribute to desirable community life. By experiencing the various ways of enjoying narrative folk songs, learners will be able to grow into subjects who actively solve their own problems and those of their communities.

  • In this study, we delve into the potential for innovative cultural education techniques that utilize the timeless tales of Princess Bari and The Tale of Shim Cheong as tailored for the upcoming generations of overseas Korean learners. With a rising number of young overseas Koreans born and raised in their host countries, there emerges a pressing need to craft an educational framework that resonates with the evolving dynamics of their generation. Our endeavor revolves around proposing educational strategies that help solidify identity while carefully considering the intrinsic motivation prevalent among most overseas Koreans. Naturally, the choice of employing the classic epics Princess Bari and The Tale of Shim Cheong as educational resources was deliberate. These narratives are rich in rites of passage and offer profound insights into the transformative journey of their protagonists. Both characters are affluent women in patriarchal societies, and both embark on quests to redefine themselves through new relationships, liberating themselves from the confines of parental ties. This narrative framework provides a unique opportunity for overseas Koreans who are often adrift in the social fabric of their adopted countries. These stories inspire them to introspect and contemplate their own identities. By intertwining their personal narratives with the empowering stories of characters, students are provided a chance to reaffirm their authentic selves. Therein, a paradigm shift can occur that allows individuals to embrace the core elements that define them. Our ultimate objective was to enable students to explore their own stories and immerse themselves in the intricate narratives of classical works. This immersive experience fosters a profound sense of unity with the characters and paves the way for a comprehensive educational plan. This plan not only celebrates the hybrid nature of identity but also cultivates a deep sense of positivity within amalgamated 'subjects.' Such an approach not only fosters a stronger connection with one's heritage but also sparks a genuine curiosity about and affinity for the rich cultural tapestry of one's home country. It's not just education; it's a transformative journey that enriches the lives of overseas Koreans and nurtures a profound bond with their cultural roots.

  • This paper focused on the narrative and theme of which is one of the different versions of when published in 1910's as a modern printing. Generally researchers regarded different version as a means of research for finding best version. But this paper aimed at the characteristics of different version . This version kept in mind for play(drama), so we could easily find the purpose of change for scenario. 'Yeon-jeong' in is 연정(演訂) in Korean words in Chinese characters. It is sure that this word means that the text considered play(drama). The narrative of also told us that this old novel aimed at the stage. Tendencies are classified four features, first, abundant situation description, second, frequent direct conversation, third, concrete description about direct conversation, fourth, showing poem and appeal for audience. The theme of has an interesting differences in comparison to the group of best version. When main character awakened, this novel showed the most important message. In the group of best version, he awakened to the cloud that he couldn't distinguish anything. But in this novel, cloud didn't appear, in other words, didn't change the scene. Instead, main character realize himself that he changed from Yang-so-yoo to Seong-jin. It is probable that change of process to conclusion aroused reader and audience's sympathy. To sum up, we could know that this novel kept in mind for play(drama).

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the operation and meaning of the narrative, which is one of the main principles for the contents construction, especially focusing on the concepts 'difference' and 'desire'. The classical aesthetic taught us that the differences between diverse characters and reality models are the effective strategy for the reading the story. But this paper focuses on the structural difference of the event (story) and performance (discourse) of narrative, which are regarded as the basic condition of narrative. This difference is to describe in terms of the media theory and psychoanalysis. This paper also seeks to interpret the recent korean film to exemplify that the creation of difference for the fulfillment of desire is the basic element of the narrative constitution.
