  • Class, the fundamental unit of school education and the meeting place of teacher and students, plays an important role in study of the subject matter of education. Class criticism is material to the theory or method that helps researchers deeply understand and analyze class phenomena or teachers' actions during a class. In this study, I make a critique on the features of a classic novel class as attempt to expand on new prospects in the field of research on classical literature education. The classic novel class in this class criticism is typical one, which reads the work analytically. Nevertheless, the teacher turns the students' vague repulsion into empathy and helps them appreciate and internalize the work. Students' empathy and response are reflected in the interpreting-centered class because the teacher's insights about the work and experience, knowledge, and method of literature education are projected during the class. Especially, a situation in which the teacher spends a relatively long time narrating the background of the work clearly shows the value and meaning disseminated in a classic novel class. Based on the aforementioned, attempts to collect a variety of cases of a classic novel class and to understand the meaning of these cases have to be part of future research. The research on the attributes of a class such as criticism of classic novels enables us to renew introspection to discover classical literature education.

  • This text attempts two types of critical analysis. First is to explore Luxun's critical research attitude toward classical Chinese texts, studying how Luxun critically examines 'liyue (ceremony- music)'. With the way the 'madman' in 《A Madman's Diary》 handles China's old text as a hint, the attitude with which Luxun critically examines the editing and passing down of classical Chinese philology was studied. Luxun pays attention to the situation in which when classical literature is passed down and transmitted throughout history, the context of events are concealed and text is blockaded while text is edited and restructured. Also, Luxun critically examines how the ancient culture of 'liyue' operates on the constitution of Chinese culture, society, and politics, in addition to the process of passing down of texts, as well as how it has effect even in the present day. Classics are closely intertwined not only with issues of the past but with the conventions, moral emotions, and government of today. Second, based on Luxun's examination of 'liyue', the <sheng-wu-ai-le-lun> of the 《Jikangji》 which Luxun sympathized with all his life is criticized. This text, stating that 'There is no sadness or happiness in sound', deeply ponders upon the issue of 'liyue' essential to the logic of Chinese cultural composition, and deviates from the Confucian thoughts centered around social integrity and inspiration. Further, it stresses the autonomy of affective subject, and the process of deliberation by an entity toward harmony and commonness. By the work of examining Jikang through Luxun and Luxun through Jikang, the uncompleted work of classical criticism by Luxun is restructured, and the possibility of classical Chinese texts to relate to today's life is examined.

  • This article analyzes the multi-layered communication in the Webtoon Princess Pari, released on the Daum portal site, created (written and illustrated) by Kim Naim, through analyzing the narrative structure and comments with the qualitative / quantitative methodology. The webtoon Princess Pari is structured in an omnibus style in which unit narratives are intermittently articulated, multi-lined, and interconnected. As integrated narratives which link with unitary narratives, Pari's growth story as a shaman and a romance narrative are structured. The classical original story of the shaman was used as a prehistory corresponding to the prequel of the webtoon through a preview, and the writer restructured the narrative to overcome the contradictions of the gender asymmetry and the patriarchal ideology of the original text. The viewer then creates a conversational space by giving critical and reflective comments. According to a statistical analysis conducted through sampling, the types of comments can be classified as follows: Appreciation and criticism of the contents ≫ Emotional response ≫ Intuitive overall review ≫ Knowledge and reflection ≫ Comments on comments. In the process of creation and acceptance of the Webtoon, a multi-layered dialogue between classical and modern, content and audience, acceptance and creation has been at play. In the creation dimension, the writer used a device to fill the gap of mythical symbols of the contents. At the level of the audience, they formed a culture of sharing information, knowledge, and reflection about tradition/folk/culture through comments. This corresponds to classical and modern dialogue through the webtoon. The viewers form a sympathetic bond, attempt hermeneutical coordination, supplement the information, and search for a balanced angle through controversial conversation. In addition, by commenting on attitudes, views, and perspective, the commentators showed a behavioral pattern corresponding to meta-criticism in literature. The viewers' comments acted as feedback on the creation of the webtoons, so that the creation and acceptance itself influenced the production of the content of the webtoon. The webtoon Princess Pari, which was based on Korean classical narrative, has been reorganized onto 'moving and dynamic' content, which leads to sense, thinking, criticism and reflection through the formation of various dialogues.

  • This thesis is an introduction and critique of the recently released 'Wongyo-Jinjeok(원교진적)'. 'Wongyo-Jinjeok' is the critique of Seokjeong Jeong-Jik Lee (석정 이정직, 1841-1910), a practical scientist and writer during the last years of the Korean Empire, on the calligraphy of Wongyo(원교) Gwang-Sa Lee (이광사, 1705-1777). Even though whether or not Seokjeong follows the flow of Donggukjinche(동국진체) is to be determined by the specialists in this field, this thesis is based on the view that Seokjeong was influenced by Donggukjinche. The academic value of 'Wongyo-Jinjeok' is Seokjeong's preface and epilogue which critiques Wongyo's writing. 'Wongyo-Jinjeok'is a collection of calligraphic specimens from the 18 pieces of Chinese poetry Wongyo had written before and after June 1756 which was the year after he was banished to Booryung. Seokjeong critiqued the writing of Wongyo from the perspective of calligraphic history in the preface and epilogue of 'Wongyo-Jinjeok'. Seokjeong had been positive about Wongyo's taking after the pre-Wangheejee calligraphic style. But at the same time, Seokjeong thought that Wongyo's ability to create was limited by the public morals of that time. Such thought of Seokjeong can be interpreted as an evaluation of Wongyo's calligraphy as having been externally stern but failing to transcend the realm of mastery to the realm of creation.

  • It's a seldom case that someone denies comics are one of art forms. On the other hand, Comics are usually skipped in discussions about arts, because it seems the attempts to find out the artistic worth of comics are not successful. The very work which figures out the worth of the works of arts belongs to criticism. However the standards of comics criticism are not prepared yet, though criticism should have standards to make a decision. Therefore, this thesis intends to suggest the standards of comics criticism to figure out the worth of comics. In order to reach the end, the discussions on this thesis go on the classical aesthetic theories, because the classical aesthetic theories had attempted to find out the universal worth of arts. After that, with the standards supplied by the aesthetic theories, I will suggest the specific standards of comics criticism finally.

  • This paper aims to identify the characteristics of literary therapy in relation to literature education. It also intends to clarify its distinctiveness. Literary therapy is not to teach literature. It does not deliver knowledge on agreed analyses, backgrounds and the nature of genres. Literary therapy encourages participants to fully appreciate one's thought and emotions and express them. The end goal is self-knowledge rather than the understanding of texts. Literary therapy focuses on self-knowledge through literatures as opposed to literature education which aims to encourage understandings of literature texts. In literary therapy, literature is media for personal growth facilitating self-expansion. Literature works enable participants to view oneself objectively by the means of one's responses to literature works. Literary therapy has more permissive viewpoints on recipients' response to literature texts than literature education. In addition, the subject of literary therapy is more unique and individualistic.

  • Today, in the case of literary works such as modern poetry, novels, 'literature production : literature acceptance' are relatively simple as 'writing : reading'. However, in classical literature, there are ways of 'singing, chanting, narrating, performing, public reading, writing : listening, reading.' Modern literary works such as poetry and novels are sole arts made up only of literature, but classical literature have many complex arts accompanied by music, theater, etc. In order to understand the way classical literature, it is necessary to consider music, theater, etc. also. There are a number of subjects to research today in relation to the accepting method of classical literature. There are such things at Hyang-ga (향가), Goryeo Sog-yo (고려속요), Sijo (시조) and Gasa (가사) in of classical poetry. There is a public reading in classical novels. There is securing video materialㄴ for narrators in oral literature. And there are Si-chang (시창. 詩唱) and aloud reading in chinese proses. 'Listening literature', such as the oral literature needs to have the A. Lord's 'formular theory' - 'formular' (general words), 'themes' (general subject), and 'improvisation.' It is the opposite of contemporary poetry and novels that value ' special words', 'special contents', and 'original text.' Classical literature with a great deal of 'listening literature' besides ' reading literature' needs to have this 'formular theory' too basically. In the case of 'excessive pornographic' oriented events in Goryeo Gayo (고려가요) and Pansori (판소리), a vision is required to set up a space for the realization of literature. The haman basic elements like a man and woman's body subject can be evoked as a literature means at open place for anonymous people. Unlike modern poetry and novels, which are 'reading literature', and contain only literature, classical literature have 'listening literature' besides 'reading literature', and have complex arts - classical poetry (literature and music), and oral literature (literature, music, theater etc.) These aspects are available to research modern mass media literature, which are all 'listening literature,' and all complex arts - pop songs (literature and music), movies (literature, drama, image, music etc.) and TV dramas (literature, drama, image, music etc.). Thus, a proper understanding and consideration of the accepting method is very important in understanding, researching and educating classical literature.

  • This research is a quest of theories of poetry of Wang Yak-heo who was a literary critic during Chin(金) dynasty in ancient China. Wang Yak-heo left a fine piece of work, dubbed ${\ll}$Honam Yuro Jib${\gg}$ and, in this paper, the author closely reviewed the theories of poetry that is appeared, especially, in the three volumes of ${\ll}$Talks on Chinese Poetry${\gg}$ among the collections of Wang's poetry criticism. In particular, the author investigated the positive and negative aspects of Honam's commentaries on the works by Chinese poets, including his principles of poetics, creative skills, and practical criticism, etc. Wang Yak-heo has not been known much in the history of Chinese literary thoughts, however, his theory of criticism, especially, among the talks on Chinese the works by Chinese poets, his literature criticisms establish unique and distinctive point of views. Wang Yak-heo's poetics, more than anything else, valued nature, meanings, truth, and contents therein. He exhibited realistic view of literature. Meanwhile, he analyzed the methods of expression by Du Bo(杜甫, pronounced, "Du Fu" in Chinese), So Sik, also known as So Dong Pa (蘇軾, Su Shi or 蘇東坡, Su Dong Po in Chinese), and Hwang Jeong-gyeon(黃庭堅, Huang T'ing-chien), and highly evaluated the realistic poems written by Du Bo, Baek Geo-I (白居易, pronounced, "Bai Juyi" in Chinese), and So Sik. Also, he opposed to formalism or externality, however, he never made light of formality of poetry. In his comments on the works by Chinese poets, he highly evaluated the poems sung by So Sik and Beek Geo-I, in the mean time, however, he criticized their works without hesitation. Having set up his own unique criteria for critique, Wang didn't accept other opinions in a seemingly illogical manner, and he presented what he thoughts and other different points of view from others. Specifically, he attached great importance to whether or not modification of words and phrases, grammar, and whole context were congruent to one another and had been well harmonized. However, in his poetics, Wang was so wrapped himself in reasonableness or rationality, he analyzed each and every word in great detailed manner, as the result, he sometimes didn't read the sentiment or mood that the writers intended to express through poems. He excessively restricted himself to the words and phrases, so that he was not able to realize natural emotions and joy of imagination that were presented in the poems, and, in the end, this brought about adverse effects to the poet's thought.
