  • A pre-fire awareness and automatic notification system are required because it is possible to minimize the damage if the fire situation is precisely detected after a fire occurs in a place where people are unusual or in a mountainous area. In this study, we developed a RaspberryPi-based fire recognition system using Faster-recurrent convolutional neural network (F-RCNN) and single shot multibox detector (SSD) and demonstrated a fire alarm system that works with power line communication. Image recognition was performed with a pie camera of RaspberryPi, and the detected fire image was transmitted to a monitoring PC through an inductive power line communication network. The frame rate per second (fps) for each learning model was 0.05 fps for Faster-RCNN and 1.4 fps for SSD. SSD was 28 times faster than F-RCNN.

  • The quality of MT (magnetotellurics) data highly depends on the level of artificial noise form industrial sources. We have conducted the feasibility study of MT noise modelling using digital spatial data and spatial modelling through the comparison between the predicted and the measured MT noises. A simple noise model predicting the intensity of electromagnetic field radiated from the latent noise sources, that is, the electric facilities in the building, road and high-voltage powerline, is developed in consideration of the propagation property of electromagnetic waves. From the analysis of correlation between the predicted and the measured noise power, the correlation coefficients of electric field are higher than those of magnetic field in whole frequency band. The magnetic field component has the high correlation in the narrow band near 60 Hz only. The spatial noise modelling proposed in this study would provide some useful informations for the MT surveys in the noisy environment like urban area.

  • The objectives of this study were to evaluate personal exposure estimated using a time activity pattern and microenvironmental model. The study was carried out for 44 children attending a primary school nearby the lines (school A) and 125 children attending a school away from 154 kV power lines (school B). For children attending school A, the estimated personal level was a little weak correlated with the measured level($Pearson\;r\;=0.34{\sim}0.35$). For children attending school B, the correlation was very low ($Pearson\;r\;=\;0.09{\sim}0.16$) using the TW A Model II, otherwise, TWA Model II-I which considered the average residential MF level according to the distance from the power line and home explained $39{\sim}53%$ of the correlation in MF personal exposures. The estimated personal exposure level was very well represented by the measured exposure level using TWA Model II-2 which consisted on spot and 24 h stationary measurements at subject's home ($Pearson\;r\;=\;0.65{\sim}0.85$). In conclusion, personal magnetic field expsoure estimated using a TWA Model II-2 should be provided for a reasonable estimate of measured exposure in schoolchildren living near the power line.

  • The growing integration of intermittent renewable sources like offshore wind energy increases the need for transferring electric energy over long distances, which may include sea crossings. One of the solutions available for bulk electric power transmission across large distances encompassing wide and deep sea is using HVDC submarine power cables. However, there are no standards or research related to the calculation of the continuous allowable current with various ocean conditions of a DC power cable that does not have an alternating magnetic field. In this study, assuming the typical two types of subsea cable models and two areas of the south coast and the west coast marine conditions, a continuous allowable current simulation of DC cables was performed. As a simulation result, the DC cable continuous allowable current find out the gradient reduction characteristics based on subsea base depth.
