A 1-year-old female hedgehog was presented with subcutaneous mass in the right forelimb. Grossly, an elevated subcutaneous mass approximately 4 cm in diameter was located in forelimb. Central dark brown area was surrounded by peripheral milky white zone in the cut surface of mass. Histopathologically, numerous neoplastic cells formed irregular cords or sheets in dermis. Most of neoplastic cells showed palisading features to basement membrane with or without central caseous necrosis. These neoplastic cells showed invasive tendency to adjacent tissues. According to immunohistochemistry, the neoplastic cells demonstrated strong positive signals for pancytokeratin, and negative for vimentin. Based on the gross, histopathology and immunohistochemistry, this mass was diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma in a hedgehog.

A 3-year-old intact female hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris) was presented for evaluation of mandibular swelling. Fine needle aspiration of swollen mandibular was performed and smears were stained with Romanowsky type stain for cytological evaluation. Smears were highly cellular with predominance of variably shaped keratinized or non keratinized squamous cells with low numbers of spindloid to abnormally elongated cells. Cytologic impression was squamous cell carcinoma. The mass was surgically removed for histological examination. Microscopically tortuous and anastomosing delicate to broad pegs and nests of neoplastic squamous epithelial cells were supported by a moderate collagenous and spindloid fibroblast stroma. Tumor cells had moderate anisocytosis and mild anisokaryosis and range from moderately to well keratinized, with areas of intratumoral acantholysis accompanied by mixed stromal lymphoplasmacytic, neutrophilic inflammation. The mitotic index is 2-3 per high-power field. Tumor cells were expanding the subcutis subjacent to the layer of skeletal muscle and incorporating the osseous tissue fragments. The final diagnosis was squamous cell carcinoma. The patient survived three months after surgery without any further medical treatments.

인터넷 포털 사이트 다음의 조사 자료에 의하면 지난 몇 년간 인기 애완동물 베스트 10위 중 1위 개, 2위 고양이, 3위 물고기, 4위 새, 5위 거북이, 6위 햄스터, 7위 원숭이, 8위 뱀, 9위 이구아나, 10위 전갈 등 이었으니, 최근에는 마니아들로부터 한때 인기를 누렸던 기니피그와 고슴도치 이구아나의 등의 감소세가 두드러지고 새롭게 타란툴라(Tarantula)와 같은 이탈리아 맹독성 거미와 같은 독특하고 특이한 동물들이 개성시대에 걸맞게 새롭게 인기군으로 부상하고 있는 추세이다.

Information is presented and comparisons made on the behavior and reproduction of P. micropus and H. auritus collaris. Comments are made in observations of the apprearance and activities of new born H. auritus collaris and on maternal-infant relationships. Observations on size-weight relationships are made, especially for H. auritus collaris.

Endocrine cells in the pyloric region of the hedgehog were studied ultrastructurally. 4 types of endocrine cells classified as gastric-type EC, ELC, $D_1$, and G cells were observed in this region. The gastric-type EC cells contained pleomorphic granules with high electron density and highly dense bodies in a dense matrix. ECL cells were characterized by the presence of round or oval granules with high electron density. Some granules of ECL cells showed a small amount of content or empty. $D_1$ cells contained round and small granules with low electron density. They occasionally showed a narrow halo between the limiting membrane and the dense materials. G cells were characterized by the presence of round or oval granules with low electron density. Some granules of these cells showed a narrow halo between the limiting membrane and the core.

Some Agaric fungi were collected from the area of Suwon, Mt. Taewha and Mt. Yongmoon in Kyonggi-do and Chongpyong temple in Kangwon-do. Among them, one genus and five taxa of Agaricales were confirmed new to Korea. In this paper we registered five texa of Agricales in detailed description such as Hygrocybe firma (Berk. & Br.) Sing. var. firma Sing.; Hohenbuehelia petalodes (Bull.: Fr.) Schulzer; Cystoagaricus strobilomyces (Mull.) Sing.; Coprinus domesticus (Bolt.: Fr.) S.F.Gray and Inocybe acutata T. Koba.& E.Naga.. The one genus new to Korea is Cystoagaricus Sing.

The gastric endocrine cells of the Korean hedgehog, Erinaceus korean us were studied immunohistochemically. Seven kinds of endocrine cells-, gastrin-, somatostatin-, 5-HT-, glucagon-, BPP-, motiIin-and GIP-immunoreactive cells- were identified in this study. The chracteristic findings of the regional distribution and relative frequency of them were examined. Gastrin-immunoreactive cells were very numerously detected only in the pyloric region. Somatostatin-immunoreactive cells were more numerous in the pyloric region than in the cardiac and fundic regions. 5-HT-immunoreactive cells were more numerous in the cardiac and pyloric regions than in the tundic one. Glucagon-immunoreactive cells were found few or rarely in the fundic and pyloric regions. BPP-imunoreactive cells were numerously distributed in the pyloric region, moderately in the fundic region and few in the cardiac region. Motilin-immunoreactive cells were found rarely or few in the fundic and pyloric regions. GIP-immnuoreactive Cells were detected onIy in the pyloric region.
